Please don’t pass this whiskey up! I work at a large retailer and freaked out when I saw that it was coming in! Split it with a coworker, her husband couldn’t believe how amazing Irish whiskey can be. Definitely worth the price due to the rarity/cask strength/flavor, only pay retail!
Just sipped my first Blue Spot while watchin Ireland the No.1 Rugby team in the World beat the No.2 Rugby team, France.
I heard they have one called Wet Spot that’s supposed to be excellent. 😂
I want to add to this, but its kind of a perfect joke. Well done
This stuff is flying off the shelves where I live.
I love the Spot whiskeys, I’m always happy when they’re getting some attention. I’m just in love with the Green Spot and it’s various spin offs but I haven’t tried the Blue Spot yet. One to get.
I feel like I am the only one who does not like Green Spot 😅 To me it is a thin, a tad bit sweet, some green apples and then tons of some kind of herbal or floral notes which I quite honestly am not liking that much 🤔 Not that I don't like these kind of notes because I do like Rye whiskey but here in Green Spot they are kind of off putting to me. I'd honestly much rather drink Jameson or the Jameson Stout 😐 Readbreast 12 on the other hand is very handsome.
Hmm. Going to have to try this one. Thanks for the review!
Remember yes it's mainly 7 year old, but there's other older whiskey in it as well. 🥃🥃
Cant wait to watch when I get home
I really like this format of sitting back and really enjoying/analyzing especially for a premium product. It's great to see you go into depth and it's obvious that you enjoyed this dram, but you still keep it more objective. Even given a high price I'm happy this is available. Hopefully it will spawn other makers to make more cask strength Irish. As always thanks for the video!
I'd LOVE more cask strength irish
Hey Bill, always appreciate how thorough your reviews are. They've certainly helped me make some purchasing decisions in the past. Just wanted to mention one thing I noticed: you said pot stills aren't good at forming congeners, but actually they are much better at including congeners in distillate than, say, a column still which can produce a much more "pure" end product with less congeners. That's why pot still whiskeys are usually attributed to have more flavour and a more viscous mouth feel. And why it's a marketing term you see on bottles but you never see "column distilled" haha
I had the same comment. It is the addition of unmalted barley that is unique to Ireland that provides the spice and creamy mouthfeel.
Great Video. Super useful. Thanks
Found two in a cardboard box in a random aisle at my regular store. Bought one & left one for the next guy. Paid MSRP. Walked out of the store and this review popped up.
It's destined
Sounds tasty for sure - gotta at least find a pour of it somewhere
Only Irish whiskey more fun to enjoy than a Spot is Middleton's, pick 1 of 3
Spot on review Bill, I've went through a few bottles since Christmas. Its £75 here in Northern Ireland, love it, love it, love it.
Wow, quite a fan huh? Nice!
You made that sound amazing Bill-Great review once again-Cheers 🥃
You should give it a try, I bet you'd like it
Hmmmm been waiting for this! Love the shirt!!!!
Nice review Bill. Haven't tried any of the Spots yet, I should do that. Will go back and hit your other Spot videos to see where to start. Cheers.
Start with the green spot! That was my introduction to Irish Whiskey... that's green apples with toasty wood... Yellow spot is a level above that... that's creme brulee...
The sign on the wall looks awesome!!
Thank you!
Awesome review as usual Bill!!!
I love the honesty and experience you bring forth with the review. I'm looking forward to trying it when it comes to my area cuz it sounds delicious. But also thank you for reminding me how I love Paul John cuz now I'm going get a bottle😂😂😂 I tried Paul John from your reccomendation and been drinking it ever since
Cheers Bill and thank you!!!
Indian Whisky is so underappreciated
Liking the length of this review very much. You had a lot of quality things to say!
Thanks! I always try to keep my videos short but folks have been saying they liked this one
Bill thanks for the review. I have one but have yet to try it. I will soon. Is Red spot limited to international? I’ve never seen it in the US
This is good one. Bought for $80. Another great cask strength Irish is Whistler 7 Cask Strength Sherry. Its a single malt (not pot still).
Where did u get it from??
Been waiting eagerly for this month great review as always ! My gf got me the Connemara for my bday can't wait to try it !!
Oh man! Awesome! The regular or the 12
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary The regular ! I told her to get that one since it was in your top 3 Irish whiskeys of 2020 !
Good call. Spoiler alert but I don't love the 12
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary good to know thanks for the heads up :)
Any whisky above 50% ABV should have the addition of purified water. 2 reasons. One , the elevated alcohol will completely obscure the inherent flavors of the dram. Add a half teaspoon of water and let it open for about 15 minutes. Two , consuming any alcohol above 50% ABV can literally destroy your tastebuds on your tongue!
Blue is a great whisky but not as good as Green Spot Chateau Latour Barton! In my opinion!
Cheers to all and be safe !
Good review but I wanted to point out that the SRP is actually only $85 (Ive bought several at that price to date). Not really fair to do a price valuation based on secondary market. Lastly, the age statement only tells us the youngest whiskey is 7 years old. In fact, the whiskey soaking in madeira casks that found its way into this expression is 20 years old. I always say judge based on what is in the bottle not what is on the bottle. I think this is a must buy, not only for Irish whiskey enthusiasts but foe bourbon drinkers who will appreciate the higher proof.
I've mostly stopped putting prices on my videos as they fluctuate too much.
Another awesome review of a bottle I'll probably never find in WV, lol. I'm still amazed I found The Signet here for $240.
That price is insane
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Yeah, but the opportunity to share it with my dad was worth it. When I bought it, the girl behind the counter was confused because I knew what it was, lol.
I'm glad you got to share it with your dad
The problem with Irish whisky is that there's not a lot of older stock and you have to pay a premium for it. At 7 years, even at cask strength, $100 is steep. The redbreast small batch cask strength is expensive too for the price. For more affordable cask strength Irish, I would shoot for the Redbreast 12CS, which I can pick up in the UK for around £70, which is comparable to Abelour A'buanadh price wise. There's also the Irishman and Writers' Tears CSs, that I've got and that are really good, especially the Irishman, but again, I would have to tighten the belt to get another one of those because of the price. Enjoyed your review as always and looking forward to your Irish week :)
There is 20 year old whiskey in that bottle. The age statement only reflects the youngest whiskey that went into the batch. Trust me, this blows RB12 cask strength out of the water and I love Redbreast. Also, srp is only $85. It is finding a bottle that isn’t marked up due to demand that is the challenge.
Join the dots , maaan! 🍀
Hey man!! Love the show!! Can you tell me how you made/bought those shelves?!
I can't find this anywhere at SRP. The availability is a major issue and people have it online for $200-300 which is a no way for me. I would like to try it and agree that even at $100 it is more of a try it first. Great review, Bill.
Thats a bummer Bud. Have you tried looking at drizzly to see availability in your area?
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary yes, even Dizly just says "Currently Unavailable" for both delivery and shipping. Patience is my only option.
Yikes. Sad
Have you had any of the blended whiskey from Manatawny Still Works in Pennsylvania?
I haveny. Worth checking out?
Damn, this and Midleton VR cannot be found anywhere in Ireland apart from auction sites.
Thats messed up
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary I live 10mins from distillery where this is made and can't get this anywhere. I've been looking for this since release in late December 2020.
Good reveiw Whisky Dictionary I see what you mean about the pricing of Irish Whiskeys this is a problem in Ireland (Republic of ) there is a quite a substantial tax on whiskeys hence I think that the producers of Irish whiskeys think they can pass it on to the consumer in other jurisdictions. The thinking the market can stand that pricing however many Scotchs and Burbons of similar quality are out there at a half or two thirds of the price of Irish Whiskey and don't get me started about the rip off price of "premium" Irish whiskeys!
Yikes. I didn't know that. Maybe something I dig into.
Is there more info you can give me so I can research better?
This or Red Breast cask strength? I’ll go with the Red Breast for now. A bit more mature and refined.
Hey Bill, do you wait for good whiskey just like people wait for avatar part 2. I know that might be a bad comparison but the way you were super excited about this whiskey made me feel that you might have a list of whiskey's that you do wait for. Hey how about you make a video of " the awaiting Bills whiskey". That might be 🆒️
Interesting question, the excitement is actually kind of the opposite... there are so few whiskies that I await that when they happen I get really excited!
I am here in Connecticut!!! Mash and Drom is a website??
He is another whiskey reviewer.
Cool vid as usual. I kind of prefered the old Icons you used for your notes though ;)
I hear you. I decided to change it up to break up the video a bit. If I have those additional B-Roll it keeps the users engaged. My analytics was showing that long stretches of my beautiful face would drive people away. Not sure why :)
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Gotcha! Makes sense :)
You calling me ugly?
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Just messing with you. You are a beautiful and precious flower 😜
Sadly it's not available here in norway
Love the shirt! Where can I get one of those?
Right below this video is a merch shelf that should show my shirts. Or you can go to www.thewhiskeydictionary.com and click on t-shirts at the top :)
Enjoy!
how does this compare to the redbreast 12 cask strength, I find it to be far more complex than any of the normal spots.
Great question... I sense an upcoming vs episode
Just got a bottle of the Blue. My Red Breast cask strength was finished off a month or two ago. Can’t do a head to head, but from what I remember, the Blue wins easily. Much more robust and interesting.
@@squiggy8110 good to hear, one day ill find one hahaha.
$100 was a good deal. $110 is more common now and it is only March 7. That's a helluva price for a 7 y/o whiskey.
Where r u guys getting these prices? I googled blue spot I saw 1 site had it for $350 and the other for $400... PLEASE point me in the right direction!
@@jesserodriguez8197 Some of the Totalwine stores have it for $110 but most don't have it at all.
@@sav7568 thanks bro! Yea the one here by my house says $110 but out of stock... I want this bottle so bad lol
@@jesserodriguez8197 You have to use the Totalwine searching system which can be a little slow and cumbersome. The system only searches over 200 miles from your location and then you have to enter a new location. They have some at West Hartford CT and Reno NV.
@@sav7568 headed up to west hartford now! Thank u so much! M in New Haven lol
Please tell me you got your hands on a Waterford bottle that I mentioned last March 😉
I didn't :(
I didn't :( never saw it
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Not to worry, probably went to very select areas.
Its the brainchild of Bruichladdich Distillery’s former Managing Director, Mark Reyner and his concept of terroir
Is there any truth that they are bringing out a G Spot.
Yup, but it'll be really hard to find!
Good review, though too long for me. How about some top 5 or top 10 videos for different categories?
Wait - what? Everybody doesn't enjoy Irish Whiskey?
Right?! Weirdos
