- Family practice was my last rotation of third year medical school! During this rotation I was away in a small town to experience rural medicine. I had the opportunity to work in clinic, in the hospital and be on call. At the end I had a block exam.

My name is Kian (23), I have a quirky sense of humour, and my favourite organ is the kidney (who makes regular appearances in my videos).
Should all things go according to plan I will be graduating with my MD come 2022! My goal with this channel is to share the RAW and REALISTIC parts of being a medical student through my personal experience to better inform people who are interested in medical school...or at least make you smile

In South Africa, also currently doing Family medicine block...was also placed in a very small town..small hospital...but um loving the experience...

I’m planning to apply to rural specific programs in my state. I’m from a town of 800 people. I’m hoping to apply next year when I finish my second degree (diy postbacc.)
Edit: that’s a lot of doctors on staff compared to the fam practice clinics in my hometown. There’s maybe one and the rest are APPs.
Now I think being a doctor is not bad.

Is there - “Head of Department” in a Hospital?
I think it is so so awesome you had a rural medicine rotation!!! In the US, usually only DO students are given that opportunity since DO schools focus more on rural or community medicine. Refreshing to see an MD student getting a taste of rural medicine!

What electives did you pick?
I wouldn’t recommend using ibuprofen or NSAID after the COVID-19 vaccines due to its antiinflammatory properties. Acetaminophen or Tylenol is acceptable.
Are you considering family?
45 minute drive with strangers. Yikes! You could always talk about the challenges of running a Chinese restaurant.
