Alien Rides what type of aftermarket switches you got on the dualtron?
Ryan Liauw we were actually borrowing a friends Dualtron for the day, so I’m not sure what switches he had installed. I’ll ask him to see if he can get me a link though.
High mate , good video to watch , but just thought i would point out a couple of things that you may want to look at .
In the video we saw alternate views which was good ,
but sometimes your mate wizzed past , sometimes you would wizz past him ,
did you guys swap scooters at any time in the clip ? at times it was difficult to ascertain which scooter and who was riding what.
looking at the rear view with your buddy back in the distance i had no idea what scooter either of you where riding.
at some stages it looked like your buddy wizzed past you then , either he backed off or you caught him ?
There where no start and finish markers to the race.
both of you guys had back packs on with no indication of who was heavier or lighter ,
and as we are not all little guys , it would be nice if you could mention the scooters rated weight limit .
perhaps you could either mention at some stage whether you will be only riding X or Y or add subtitles or something .
not trying to pick the shit out of your video , just it was a tad hard to work out what was what ,
sometimes it seemed the dualtron was faster , other times the rion .

Well that cleared the cobwebs. The Rion is like a beast from another planet. It simply blew the Dualtron into the weeds. With a great price, Magura brakes, carbon fibre and light weight. They are surely onto a winner. (Very, very, impressive)

What's up buddy. Another great video. You should set up your thunder just like that one with the V1 stem adapter. Just go with a longer stem with a rise to it so the bars are up and out more like I have on my ultra👍✌

Both are cool Scoots. Different Applications though. One is like taking a ride in a sports car, the other is like a hopped up sedan and can go longer distances. Thanks for putting it together. I’ll keep my Dualtron which gets me enough speed and I get the extra miles!
Good points, I personally only own the Thunder right now and love it for long rides. The RE90 is very tempting though, as it should have long range while also having the power of a sports car.
Alien Rides That’s what I have as well. It has plenty of power in my humble opinion. The X-Rion is definitely awesome and a performance minded Scoot. I’m sure it’s a blast to get on and ride! Given the price it’s prohibitive for now. I’d still keep the Dualtron if I were to ever pull the trigger on a X-Rion.

Yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to the Weped SS, and you can expect a Rion/Weped race later this year for sure. That scooter definitely looks like a beast, and I think my dream garage is one Weped SS and one Rion RE80 right now.
Hi, how do you control the Skydio drone, is there like something in your backpack that causes it to follow it?
It has 7 cameras and visually tracks subjects autonomously. It's super smart and can dodge obstacles and get some awesome shots. Love filming with it.

Both the Thunder and Rion would make an awesome upgrade. These are definitely an addiction, but no better way I'd rather spend my money!
Can you get non-smooth tires for the Rion? I personally would appreciate some grippier standard tires on a scooter like that, or at least the option to change, since I like to go on footpaths and stuff. I think it would be beneficial to have the option.
You can probably order some tires from PMT which have tread, but personally if you like trails and off-roading i’d take a second scooter for that. Don’t ruin the amazing racing feeling of the Rion!
I've been looking at buying the Weped, i'd like a comparison with the Rion? The though was to have Rion power with more range.
I'm trying to do a comparison of the RE90 vs Weped later this year. The Rion RE90 might have just as much range as the Weped, but I'm hoping to test it soon!

Yeah, they started focusing on the thrust model. It's a nice machine, but shame there isn't a cheaper model right now. 👽🖖
When do you think Rion will release updated models? Don't want to purchase now then a few months later a significantly updated model comes out.
I think they're just starting production on the RE70/RE90 models so there's going to be a long time before there's an upgrade. Now is the best time to buy in IMO. Worst case, they do allow you to upgrade through the various models.

Yup, their new Rion Curve throttle lets you easily modulate throttle, very much like the rev. 👽🖖

These were aftermarket handlebars, but I'm not sure exactly which ones. 700mm enve ones are really nice though! 👽🖖

Yeah, the Rion just sounds mean when it accelerates. Camera doesn't even capture it that well.

I love this vid have a thunder and I find that if you turn all the lights off you have a bit more power on tap but the the rion is still much faster considering.
Interesting, I have a thunder as well and never thought about turning off all of the lights 😅 I'll have to do some tests with that, thanks for the tip!
Alien Rides no problem I noticed it when I was riding when you turn the lights on your voltage drops on average about 2 to 3 V based off of the onboard voltmeter
That is absolutely true. So many times I've been on the way home with only about 28% battery. Turn off all lights battery power goes 🔋 to about 32%-34%....
i would love a close look at the rions internals and power components.

I bought my thunder before the RE60 was made, or I would've definitely considered it! I've been seeing many people buy RE60s, so surely some of them are preferring it over the Thunder. It's certainly more fun to ride over a Thunder :)

Hello, it looks like the Dualtron Storm will be faster than the Rion RE60 😳. On a video uploaded by Minimotors, they stated it goes 67mph with a person weighing 158 Lbs.. that is insane fast!! I can't wait till you get your hands on one of those 🙂

My Quiewa Q power died after I rinsed it off at 450 miles. Now trying to get it fixed. Few want to touch it, most scooter shops only want to work on gas scooters it seems. Ughh

We could, and we should’ve swapped, but it wouldn’t have mattered. The Rion is way faster than any dualtron.

How stable is the RION and it’s suspension great for bumps and cracks on the road?
The RION is meant for high speed racing, so I think it's super stable at speed. It's more similar to a stiff suspension on a hyper car, compared to a SUV. So while you will feel the bumps more, you should always be in control.
is the new RE-90 faster than the RE-100? i dont see much info on line regarding the RE-100!
I think the new RE90 might be around the same speed or faster than the old RE100, but I'm sure there is a new faster RE100 that is always a step ahead. Seems like they use the RE100 as a test bed and technology trickles down from that.
Where can I find a rion scooter for the 3,800 cause the site is stating 4500?
Sadly since this video was made they upgraded the RE60 to be faster/longer range and the price went up. Hopefully we’ll see a cheaper entry level model from Rion in the near future.

Yeah I just figured it turned out to be 2300 for qpower and if I'm already paying so much why not buy something reputable and with good customer service! I actually placed my order today. But if willing if I stop buying car parts I might order a Rion 60. Its just that they take up to 90 days since they are made to order. But I really like your videos and thanks for your time. Rion at 55 lbs just peaked my interest!! WOW!! I was on the Dualtron Thunder train prior to this vid. What is the range of the Rion??
Both the Dualtron Thunder and Rion are awesome scooters, personally I say the Thunder is more versatile, but the Rion is much faster. It's got a 21 amp hour battery, so similar range as say a Dualtron Spider, maybe a little less at full speed. I'll be doing a range test in the future, expecting to get around 20-30 miles on it. (I get 30 miles on the Thunder when racing at high speeds)
I'll definitely be building custom wind high kv+ cool air vented race motors esc,s and high discharge quick charging race lipo pack,s soon for all mini hub motor owners
Hi, does the number represent the scooters top speed in MPH. For example RE60=60Mph? RE80=80MPH?
I don't think it correlates exactly, but I think that is about what models can do. I think the newly announced RE90 for example can do 100MPH.

Which is better is quality/reliability though? The rion sure is fast, but how is the customer service? Also I don't see a milage estimate on the website? With such an expensive machine, I'd want to know they will stand behind it. I know that a company like mini motors will definitely stand behind theirs.
I have not owned a Rion for a long period of time, but it seems to be super high quality to me. Dualtrons have a reasonable level of quality, but there's also been a fairly high defect rate recently.

I think this was actually the Santa Fe dam near LA. I'm actually not from the area, so I'm not entirely sure how best to gain access.
After two races I think we all understand that the Rion will walk on the Thunder every time. Will this model be available right away or is there a long wait time after purchase/ordering?
All Rions are currently made to order, so there is a long wait for them, but it’s totally worth it. Best bet is to contact them to figure out the current wait.

i think the 45 pound weight difference on the scooters probably plays a good role of which one being quicker also?
The lower weight does help a small amount for sure, but I bet you could even put two people on the Rion and still win in a race... maybe we'll test that in a video

I think we will hear news soon of a larger battery! Right now the claimed range on the 21ah battery is about 30 miles, probably accurate for riding at a reasonable speed. I haven’t tested range at full speed, but my guess is 15 miles, maybe a bit less. (I get about 25 miles on the thunder when mashing near full speed)
Maybe add kilograms behind lbs. I don't know the pounds. Also what makes it modular? How does it work to upgrade

Regarding range, would not the Rion have a lower Wh/mi than the Dualtron at a given speed due to its lightness?
Yeah, good point. Most likely the RION will use less energy per mile due to it's lightness and more efficient controllers. 👽🖖

There’s different batteries in different models, but I think for this one you’re looking at about a 30 mile range or so.
How are you calculating watts?
Both are whatever the manufacturer says they are, typically peak watts is more theoretical and not indicative of typical running watts. I do wish there were a more standardized way of measuring scooter power.
Why do you always have a backpack on? And what is in there? Lunch? Change of clothes? Bricks to keep you balanced? Space suit? A hidden jet pack? Asking for a friend. Its an important question. Thx! 😁

How come with 12000 watt it does not slip. Are there any throttle settings. It seems to build up power instead of going full at once.
If you gun the throttle the wheels spin out like crazy. I think the rider was actually being. A bit conservative this race, and gentle on the throttle. I’m editing another RE60 clip which shows the tires barely maintaining traction, should be out in a week or two.

No setting to it really, just depends on how far you hold the throttle 😅 The new RE60 throttle is very smooth though, you can ride in a very gentle fashion as long as you don’t press it all the way.
Can’t take Rion off road tho,it’s a one trick pony. But a nice trick. I just got the new FLJ K6 6000 watt 50a. Freaking sick

I swear the RION straight up takes advantage of higher current output cells most likely a much more powerful bms too.
Just having the power available to pull from the battery in excess makes so much of a difference in performance. More rigid voltages means higher top speeds under full load, etc.
It’s like comparing a lipo powered system to a lead acid ;)
What does an re60 controller demand at full tilt in amps? Any idea what the max current supply from the battery on them is for these models man? (The Rion and the Dualtron) (rated numbers is fine).

For sure, many PEVs could be much faster if they used higher amperage controllers and drew more from the batteries. Some of the new batteries can pull ~60+ amps per cell. I forget the exact battery configuration of the RE60, but I think the RE90 has 7 parallel groups? It's a lot of amps though 🤯
Alien Rides what does the bms limit it down to though? It’s usually printed on the actual battery itself :) eg 60v 20.8ah 30amps max. We never see bare cell performance because of the safety features included to prevent battery ignition.
I’m not surprised they’re going north of 50amps per cell! The newer lithium cells can give out up to 70amps constant per cell before they start to get warm.
The pack I was telling you I designed, is a 6x 10s1p config (so you can swap between voltages etc, but each cell is capable of 120amps continuous) so you can throw that entire 6 pack in parallel to get a seriously powerful 36v scooter with 72ah 720 amp constant output, 1440amp burst. (Fits in the mid size flj/janobike battery tray with two phaserunners and charging hardware) or a seriously powerful 240~v 12ah drag scooter capable of 120amps continuous, 240amps 30 second burst.
Hooking that battery up to any Chinese scooter will make it perform so much better than any prebuilt or diy lifepo4 pack you could buy/build today and fit in that volume. And you’d gain so much more useable range than any pack you’d fit in there usually.
Finding a bms to do something like that though, is really, really expensive and kinda only a diy solution at the moment when it comes to commercially available parts.
I really wish that we could see more pouch cells used instead of round cell types, they always maintain a better weight/power density/capacity density balance than round cells do too.
I’m not knocking the Rion or others at all, I’m just one of those guys that likes to go so much faster. You have to if you want to compete with petrol heads

It’s not. Because they use air cooling, there are exposed electronics, so you definitely don’t want to rude the Rion in rain. It wouldn’t be fun in the rain with the racing slicks anyway.

The re60 top speed is more then 60mph. The thunder top speed is less than 50mph ;) it won’t catch up.. we tried!

@@matelslug1Ok thanks but putting a scooter on a bench (wheels off the floor) is not a accurate way to test max speed at all.. cause my Chinese generic brand 5600w does the same too, but gets to 56 mph on the road. Turned out mine has dual 50 amp voltage controllers so it puts out 6700w at full charge.. mine is severely underrated. Dualtron Thunder tops out at around 50 mph it doesn't have enough meat to get to 60.. they are rated at 5400w.
what would you chose for all around scooter
All around, so I guess you're looking for range, speed, maybe off-roading and weatherproofing. I do think the Dualtron Thunder is great for that, maybe even the Weped SS if you're looking for something big. For smaller, maybe the Dualtron Eagle, Mantis Pro, Zero 10x. Lots of options out there, but most of them are a lot more boring than the Rion 😅
In my humble opinion, Rion is king. Even with a 48V battery voltage would be an excellent and still fast scooter to the city and more universal with a battery of about 30Ah
I think we are going to see more and more different models in the Rion lineup in the future, it’s quite exciting!

The RE60 knock spots off everything the Dualtron Thunder does, But in the wrong hands thats not necessary a good thing, I get mu Thunder tomorrow but even looking at this the Re60 looks much better for speed But the THUNDER Looks more ROBUST and SAFER , the RE60 looks ultra modern and I can only go but the video the RE60 looks like a CHILDS plastic scooter , MAYBE great over in the UK as the police wont pull you for having a kids scooter, Well untill you take over a police car that is haha. I can guarantee you that the Rion looks more along the lines of a McLaren than a kids toy, at least in person :) The Thunder is a great choice though, very practical for a wide variety of riding conditions. Congrats on the purchase, you're going to love it.

What was the fastest you went on the re60.
I think about 60mph or so. Pretty awesome for the weight and price of it.

so the re60 is lighter with the same amount of watthours at 2100. does that mean that the rion will have similar or even more range than the thunder because the thunder has way more amphours but the total watthours evens out cuz of the massive voltage of the rion
I thought the RE60 has less watt hours, but I forget how many. The RE90 should have more range than the Thunder.

60 x 35 = 2100
i figured since both have the same amount of watthours than the rion might actually have a bit more range since its alot lighter and probably more aerodynamic but the thunder just has so much more amphours.
Time for Dualtron Thunder to drop about 2 thousand DOLLARS.
I do think that would be a very fair price for the Thunder.
Now I REALLY want a Rion scooter lol

Love my Thunder but that RION is nuts! And more importantly there’s no way my other half will let me spend another 4K on another scooter🤣 I have no complaints anyway, I usually ride around 30/35 mph anyway
Thunder is awesome, and I love mine as well. Hard to beat it for a great electric cruiser.
