  • This was the catalyst for sending me down a rabbit hole on CZcams that will play out in the next two videos. How come nobody mentions THE MARSHALL TUCKER BAND?! Rock fluting aside, this gem needs to get some more love! There was plenty of love heading in the direction of the bands frontman!😂Thanks for watching!

Toy Caldwell "The fastest thumb in the South" vocals/lead guitar. Brother Tommy on bass. Jerry Eubanks flute. George McCorkle rhythm guitar. Paul Riddle drums. Doug Gray, on the end playing tambourine, most often sang lead vocals. MTB was one of my favorite Southern Rock bands. Their blend of genres into Southern Rock was unique. I highly recommend their album "Carolina Dreams".

Kayla, you'll flip out. Can see in color..." Marshall Tucker Band - Saturday Night in Macon." It's the 2nd song. Also Believe or not, Toy was not considered a heart throb. He was good looking, I agree. He would laugh to know someone thought him a heart throb, didn't think of himself that way. He was a good 'ol boy, drove a black 4x4 ,who could still walk down the street and people said "Hey, Toy". I grew up not far from where they did. Knew him. They grew up in upstate Soth Carolina in Spartanburg. Watched him play with local band and he was more or less "just Toy". Toy was not the frontman, the guy with long hair Doug Gray was the singer. Other guy on his other side playing bass, Tommy was his brother. Toy lost both his brothers, Tim & Tommy to auto accidents within a couple of weeks in1980. He had been in Marines, in Vietnan, purple heart, came home started MTB. He is also deceased. Full Military honors. Miss him so much. HIs wonderful playing ability is famous for that day. Hope you enjoyed info. I love MTB the original band and still love them.

  • @CatO9lives

The Caldwell brothers were from Moore South Carolina about 30 miles from where I live, and I have always had kin living in Moore, and would ride by an old two story brick school house that they used to rehearse in and recorded some of their songs in back in the early 70's. I remember hearing on the radio years ago back in the 70's also of Toy Caldwell being interviewed and he mentioned the old Schoolhouse that they turned into a recording studio. He also told the story of how they got their band name on an old interview he was doing on the Bobby Bare Show and Bobby ask him how they got the name Marshall Tucker Band and ask if there, "is a real Marshall Tucker?" Toy said, "yea, he was a blind man that tunes pianos in Spartanburg and one night about a week before the Marshall Tucker band was formed, we had a gig and we didn't have a name for our band. " He went on to say that they rented a place from Marshall Tucker to practice and on the keychain was the name, "Marshall Tucker" He said, that name for the band was, "As good as any. And that was the name of the band." Critics, told the band that a flute in a Southern Rock Band won't work, but they tried it out and that became their trademark. That flute gave a lot of their songs a very unique sound that caught on and is classic to hear to this day. Also if you noticed toy picking his lead guitar with his thumb instead of a pic. Very rare.

I'm an early Gen-X and I grew up with this song on the radio in my region. I really love this particular video of them playing this song live. They performed just as well as they did on the studio version, but you get to see the musicianship and technique. Back in the day live music venues, concerts, festivals were special interactions between the musicians and the audiences, not to mention that due to the late invention of social media and the internet, live performances were one of the only options to see the band apart from rare appearances on programs like The Midnight Special. (Check out The Midnight Special 's CZcams channel for lots of older live performances to react to.)

Marshall Tucker band, what a great group with many great tunes. Back in the day they were kind of like Pablo Cruz or Fire Fall, groups that had great songs and great talent but might’ve gone under the radar for people. I feel so fortunate to have graduated high school in the early 70s. Now, I get a kick out of watching people get turned on to these classics. I enjoyed your review!

Okay, now hear me out. Like I said, I'm Rock and Rap, this is neither of those. I came across them in 2016 and I've been addicted ever since. I'll preface this by saying that this group is the Most Subscribed artist on CZcams, about to hit 90 Million subscribers and over 32 Billion views on their channel, and that's with only 28 original songs! I've seen them in concert twice and going again in August, in both New Jersey AND Vegas! The group is BLACKPINK, if you haven't heard of them you should definitely check them out. Their songs, which are bangers, are a combination of Pop, Rap, EDM and Trap, their videos are insanely gorgeous visually, plus the outfits, the dancing and the girls themselves are all stunning. The girls are multilingual, they each speak three to five languages each as they're from different countries (Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and S. Korea). Check out their recent hit PINK VENOM or HOW YOU LIKE THAT. They also have an award-winning Netflix doc called BLACKPINK: LIGHT UP THE SKY, well worth watching. If not, no harm no foul, thanks for staying to the end lol! (note: if you do check them out turn on subtitles, some parts of their songs are not in English).
