Good question! If you are only taking the AAF Sectiom, you might be able to survive with just Day 6, but I lay the foundation for Day 6 in some of the earlier parts of the course… I would recommend also checking out Days 3 and 4, as there are some AAF questions mixed in there as well…. In short I recommend Day 3, 4, and 6.

Hey Mr. Toohey! Im a 39 year old immigrant, I graduated back home and I hate math. Move to the US, learned english got my GED and now trying to get into college but I have to take the TSI, oh lord! As far as scoring requirements go, they vary from school to school and program to program… is there a counselor at the school/program your applying to that you could ask about your particular scoring requirements?

8:15 I think she was having trouble understanding PEMDAS because in the acronym multiplication is before division. I used to have trouble with this, Multiplication and division hold the same value and addition and subtraction do as well. So if you see division before multiplication you do that first from left to right and if you see subtraction before addition you do that first.

I have come to love your approach so much. Your way of teaching is unmatched and i also find myself laughing sometimes too! My one and only question is how do you know which number to plug in for those xy values?
Thanks for reaching out!! Start with 1s and 0s (in general)… it’ll make the arithmetic easier and you can always increase the values if you need to!
But sometimes you might see an expression like x/7 and there it might not make sense to plug in a 7 instead to make the values easier to deal with…
So it really depends on the question…

You’re right! Both C and D give your 9 when x=0 and y=1
That’s why you need to plug in another set of values…
But that’s no problem. If you can’t find the answer with the first set of values you plug in… just do it again with different values! You’ll find the right answer!
I recently took my math placement exam with a 253 and I really need this course.... your 2 videos helped me alot on the first try but I could use the course to get into Precal/or Calculus. I at least need a 263 for precal and 276 for Calculus 1. Is there anyway I could contact you ?

Does this test need me to study for "geometry concepts"? Or should I concentrate on trigonometry instead?
Good question! You may see some trig on the AAF section… but you’ll likely see more general geometry concepts like area, perimeter, triangles, rectangles, circles, etc…
In the "Day 6 (Most Advanced Questions). Logarithms, Trigonometry, and the Quadratic Formula" video when you were doing the quadratic formula at the end you did this: took minus from the numerator and from denominator. But don't we have to take this minus from "square root of 15" too? What the rule for this kind of operations or how does it call? I'm so confused about it
Good Question!!! I just reviewed the question and the explanation in the video… Yes, you are dividing the negative 3 by negative 3, and also the +/- square root of 15 by negative 3…
Obviously -3/-3 is going to be positive. I think we’re good there.
But remember that +/- the square root of 15 represents TWO different values: Positive square root of 15 and Negative square root of 15. So you have to divide BOTH by -3….
Negative square root of 15 divided by -3 becomes positive. But the Positive square root of 15 divided by -3 becomes NEGATIVE!! So you still end up with a positive AND negative version, whether you divide by a positive or a negative!
Make sense??

Hi, I hope u respond but in the first problem you used 3 for x and 1 for y, how do you know what numbers to use?? You just use random numbers?
Thanks for reaching out! Any set of numbers will work, but I chose to make x=3 because the expression in the question is x/3… if you make x 1 or 2 you’ll get a fraction (1/3 or 2/3) but if you make x=3 you just get 1, make the question much easier to solve…
Pretty much any set of values will work (though you may need to plug in multiple sets of values to narrow down the answer choices) but some sets of values will be easier to work with than others...

Hello Mr. Toohey, i wanted ask you a question about question number #0, can we use identity which is
(a+b)^2= a^2+2(a)(b)+b^2 where a= x/3 and b =3y it saved me time but the answer was same , and out of topic question i am only able solve maths questions only on a piece of paper and by writing so in the exmination as there will be a computer test will they provide me a piece of paper and pen in the exam ????? thank you for your tips.
Yes! That totally works too!! Whichever is easier for you is best!

Is the accuplacer math another test or is it the same test as the tsi?
The TSI is the Texas version of the Accuplacer… there are a lot of similarities, but a few higher-level concepts tested on the Accuplacer, particularly on the Advanced Algebra and Functions section of the test…

Not if you’re just taking the arithmetic test, No. : )

Yes! I’ve updated the course for the TSIA2, and I cover almost every major concept tested on the exam in the full version of the course…
But be on the lookout for more updates as new question types come out and I get feedback from students who recently take the exam.

Thanks for reaching out! The TSI is just the Texas version of the Accuplacer… there is a lot of overlap between the two, but there are some key differences. Your best bet is to focus on the TSI prep you have: everything you need to pass the test is included in the course!

@@MichaelToohey Referring to TSI math crash course day 6 part 1. Question number 8. About the pizzas and soda. I know you didn’t really do plug in values for C (Cheese Pizza) and S (Soda) I plugged in values for C and S and just played with it. I got 2.25 for C and 1 for S. It gave me the correct answer when plugging in for answer choice B. Would it be wise to plug in values in a question like that? Or just stick with common sense?
@yourfavemitchell great question!! You can always do both!! (In fact, that’s what I’d recommend)… hat way you KNOW you’re on the right track if both methods work…
