Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was stabbed during a service at the Assyrian Christ the Good Shepherd church in Wakeley. The incident triggered a riot among worshippers and violence towards police and paramedics. Emmanuel has previously criticised Islam and the prophet Muhammad in public sermons and gained a large online following during the Covid pandemic, when he compared lockdowns to ‘mass slavery’
