Excellent, helpful video! I started trying to open the fob per the manual's instructions, but I couldn't get it open. Thankfully, this video pointed me to the correct slot to put the screwdriver in! (The picture in the manual was NOT helpful and didn't indicate which slot.) I had the screwdriver in the wrong slot and would have cracked the thing. One point you might mention is to watch out for that little membrane inside that keeps the "buttons" in place...mine slipped, and all the buttons fell out. It was easy to get them back in place, though. Other than that, THANK YOU!!

6:25 I am the least mechanically inclined person on the planet. I always feel like I’m reading a foreign language when looking at a user manual. Of course my battery died when my husband was away on business. Thank goodness I was able to find ur video. Problem solved quickly and easily. Definitely needed screwdriver. Using blade did not work. Thanks for the help!

this video was very useful, and allowed me to successfully change the battery. I watched five other videos first which for some reason were so poorly lit I could not see where to put the screwdriver. As others have noted, the manual is worse than useless because it does not show that there are two different places to put the screwdriver, and if one uses the more obvious one you will surely break the stupid thing. How absurd of the Subaru designers to make such a fussy, stupid, easy to foul up fob that we drivers need to go into--just to change a battery.

The trouble is... my battery lasted 5 years. Does Subaru REALLY think I'm going to remember how-to in five years?!! ha ha ha

Sorry for being a klutz, but watching your picture, I saw the circuit board facing up. So I put it in upside down and kept trying to snap the fob back and of course it wouldn't work. I looked at other videos and realized my mistake. I turned the circuit board facing the right side of the fob, no problem BUT It's a miracle I didn't ruin the circuit board by trying to muscle it in and close upside down.

When you first opened the case the battery was pointed up.After the change you installed it battery down chip board up.I guess it fit,but the average person should do it just like the factory to avoid breaking anything .
