Hahaha my friend who lived with me at the time and we both worked at the same place suggested we should jog home one evening after our 12 hour shift bearing in mind she runs marathons and I run baths 😂.. I was like yeah no problem.. I was fine for the first 4 miles but then my paced slowed and she just jogged off into the distance, anyway I didn’t stop but the 2 days after I could not even walk 😂😂.. I was never a long distance runner, I used to run 200m and also was a goalkeeper 😂

Same, he made me realize that it wasn’t my situation or the people around me holding me back, it was my own fault that I’m not where I want to be, and the only way to fix it is to start holding myself accountable even when I don’t want to.
Some times the best of the best never leave bed to become who they really are. There’s probably some guy better than Jordan never took ball serious. A rapper better than Eminem who never took recording serious. A fighter better than jon jones but he never took training serious.

I actually, truly, had a good friend named Dustin who was every bit as good as Eminem.
He ended up getting into trouble.
We would all get together, you know the groups we get into when young, and just BEG him to spit some lyrics.
He was incredible.
I am a writer and I know when lyrics are intelligently written or free styled.
I still to this day think of him from time to time.
Eminem had just come out. The rap game was different. I know that Dustin felt he had to build his street cred because he was a Jewish dude. He knew they didn't want to accept him because he was white.
He should have ignored them.
It really is sad.
So many things besides your talent have to fall into place for "fame" and success.
There is a recipe, maybe different every time, for success. Just having the talent isn't close to all of it.
Most of these people, their ego, tells them they are special, and they are, but they are also lucky. Very lucky.

Honestly, when I run on treadmill on the gym for half an hour and there's absolutely nobody who can run more than me or maybe someone who can, but do want to. Makes me feel joy that I am better than more than 50% of my gym 😂.

For guys like him, I’ve often wondered “what’s the ultimate payoff?”. So, you ran 12 miles at 5am? So, you threw a football for 20 years? So, you built a business and have a yacht? To some degree, and to many people, it’s inspirational. I can see that, but I also see it as an insatiable ego. You can gain the whole world and lose your own soul. And all for what? Being at or near the top of a meaningless statistic? There is one statistic that no one can conquer or escape. 1:1 birth to death ratio. No matter your futile efforts in this world, that one statistic puts us all at the same finish line.

I’m reading his book right now in school and I think that the way you’re looking at this is all wrong. He isn’t doing it to gain some future reward or benefit. The training and ultra marathons he does are their own reward. He also says that pushing yourself athletically creates a calloused mind and readies you for the real bullshit that happens in life. I don’t know what I think yet I haven’t finished forming an opinion or choosing any action moving forward yet as I haven’t finished the book, but I can say that when I run or lift or play sports I am happier, regardless of any benefits I receive. When I find success in school, in work, in relationships, I enjoy the benefits, yes, but more than that I love the feeling of improvement. What do you think drives someone? Curious about your thoughts.
You're framing this on the outcome. If all you're focusing on is the end reward, you'll never enjoy the journey or activity along the way. You also miss acknowledging the other rewards you gain along the way, as a result of what you're doing

He did, tho, implicitly. The question itself wasn't really even complete. The question was basically where do you go (or what do you do) when you begin making excuses. His answer was, implicitly, it's a mindset. He might have those excuses (e.g., it would be easier to sit on the couch than do 3 hours of a plank hold); however, he takes great pleasure in doing hard things that yield self improvement.
He's got mental problems and he's almost literally running from them to the point where he can't wait to wake up and relinquish control of his body and brain to the runners high. Even sport addictions exist ya know, people just sensationalize it because their are opposite themselves.
You are trying to pathologize exercise by framing it as some sort of addiction or mental illness. It is true that Goggins does exercise outrageously, but I would hardly compare the addiction to exercise, if such a thing even exists, to the negative effects of being addicted to food or leisure or anything else. Heck, being addicted to exercise sounds like an awesome perk if you are lucky enough to achieve it

Overall, he put himself into hard, endurance races and because of that he had serious injuries.
