    My friend Tiffany of Thrifting Vegas and I went to Savers to see it for ourselves! What are they doing? We would have been better off at Goodwill! See what we did manage to pick up on this thrift with me adventure.

    I am also appalled by some of Savers policies, especially going to all self-check. They can't even claim to be employing people and creating jobs. I avoid self-check as much as possible due to I do not like it when jobs are eliminated. I went to a grocery store in Nevada recently, they had only one cashier, the rest were all self-check. I like to interact with a person as well as knowing the money I spend with a business is helping support someone. We do not have them in my area but I would not shop with them nor donate to them if we did.

      Push came to shove for me one day at a small grocery store when an employee told me I would have to self check out because their only checkout girl was on her lunch. I did check myself out but told the manager I would not be coming back.

      @FlaNative3 Před 2 lety +1

      We don’t have Savers in my busy city, but I started going to the self checkout at WalMart because ours never had enough registers open, the lines were always very LONG with people with carts piled high, Express lines were even longer and the cashiers were terrible at bagging or resentful if I had my own bags … I am a small family so it was much faster to check myself out. Now, even with 2 self checkout pods, our Super Walmart still has about 20 checkouts manned with cashiers, even though there are several other WalMarts within 10 miles … like I said, busy city! @@wandajuul5150 Yep. Retail jobs really stink. I spent 11 years in produce of a large grocery chain. The pay is an insult, unless you want to live with mom & dad forever or hold 3 jobs with different companies. Too many slacker employees punching in getting a paycheck for doing nothing so the work load & blame is dumped on those who actually work. Such a joke. Very depressing job.

      This is the way the Goodwills are up here in Iowa, and also some of the second hand stores. It’s so sad because they just fill dumpsters daily. And the prices I see other areas of the country pay for goodwill items is half of what they charge here.

      @@green2red That seems like a good strategy but some of the stores are actually destroying the items before they throw them out. They think that’s going to get people to come in and pay for them, but I think they have that wrong, I think it’s just going to build resentment.

    Even the non profits are out for profit these days. I stopped going to my favorite thrift as much for the same reason,leaving over priced junk on the shelf as the good stuff does not even make it to the floor. I have a theory of where they are taking it to. Nothing wrong with a semi negative video,thrift stores have forgotten they received these items free no need to mark them up to ebay prices or more. Yes,you should grabbed that awesome owl. And Ms Danni,you look great in any light ; )

    Hey Danni, a note about the DONATION COUPONS. At our Savers, each donation coupon is good for up to $100, but if you have more than one coupon you can use it for the items that exceed $100. For example, if you have $150 in purchases and you have 2 coupons, you can use your first one for the $100 and the second one for the $50. You can use them for every $100 even if it is during the same visit. I learned that one day when I had a large purchase and the manager who was checking me out asked me if I had any more coupons (which I did) and explained the policy to me.

    I LOVE shopping with the Niche lady and support her feelings about Savers. I'll shop there on a rare occasion, but PLEASE, do not donate anything to Savers. They are NOT a nonprofit. Basically the means that by donating your items to Savers you are giving them FREE inventory. Even Kmart had to BUY their inventory, but at least their prices were reasonable. There are so many nonprofit thrift stores that support viable charities that would welcome your donations. Thank you.

When I dropped off my sick laptops, I had to wait a few minutes for them to open and I noticed the brand new antique store 2 doors down was open! I spied a whole shelf unit full of Polish pottery. Most matched, but the prices were high. Not as high as new retail, but paying $17 for a small spoon rest...! Nope! I found 2 teapots at thrift stores in the last few months on my own!

I do understand how frustrating those prices are, but one thing I love about your videos is your sense of humor and just the way you find positivity in the pieces you find, even when they're crazy priced. 🤪

    I don’t go to the thrift stores much because the prices are so high. I go to yard sales and to $5 bag sales. A lady who holds these bag sales with stuff she cleans out of houses after estate sales are over. I have gotten a lot of good stuff. I just make a pile and usually get a lot of stuff for $10-15.

      That sounds great, but the estate sales where I live are usually run by a company, the prices are high, and they DON’T bargain! Here, the private charity thrift stores have the best prices … usually … Goodwill used to run great sales, but it is less often now 🙁

      They are so different from when I was young. We used to have lots of “jumble” sales all the time but they are gone now. I remember being at one as a teenager and it was 5p for whatever you could fit in a carrier bag towards the end. Middle aged ladies snatched items out of my hand. Brutal.

    I will not donate anything that has more than 1 piece to it to Savers, in this area. Especially, for home appliances. They then sell each part separately- such as base of blender at one price, with blending container separated from it, as another separate price. My Mom had a sterolite cannister set in the 60's. Bring back memories. Yes, it had a plastic turntable base.

The prices have quadrupled. I picked up and put back things that were listed 3.99 and over because they used to be .99. It's ridiculous. Keep the low prices and let people buy more.

  • @conniewojahn6445

    These prices are like the prices at the Goodwill store closest to me. They've really bumped up their prices over the past year, especially clothing. With clothing going to landfill - like the one in a desert - it seems they'd lower prices just to get something from their inventory. They do have job connection services to help people find training and jobs. They don't have self checkout because some of their trainees are training in the store. That's the one good thing about them.

Bummer for sure, but it’s still fun to go and….’make shopping fun!’ 😊👍 If it’s just one great score once in a while, it’s worth the search, but I understand how resellers can get bummed out!

      @FlaNative3 Před 2 lety

      But the problem is that a “thrift” store’s clientele can’t afford either eBay prices or new prices, so the store has abandoned its business model. Even with resellers business, you can’t turn your back on your main client base - they are losing both types of customers. That’s what Danni was saying in the older video she mentioned - even with resellers buying there, they don’t take everything, leaving plenty for the main client base. If Savers would lower prices and eventually put unsold items on Clearance, everyone would win instead of the current situation where Savers just trashes unsold items.

    • @TheNICHELady
      @TheNICHELady  Před 2 lety +1

      You need to know your market!
      Savers is not selling to a worldwide audience, they are not cleaning, researching and photoing the items they are slapping a price tag on it and putting it on a shelf where resellers spend hours scouring those shelves to find the items they can make some profit on by doing ALL of that work!
      I would not knock their prices if they were actually realizing them - but they aren't and things are going to the landfill which is a travesty!
