    I am with you DJ on the current state of the MCU along with the comments on the recent Doom reveal. It does feel desperate and purely for the sake of "oh no people are leaving, do you guys like Dr. Doom? Guess who we have back! Pls come back to the theatre, pretty please !!"
    Decisions like that made me loose faith in the storytelling. So many things that could have been done post Endgame but instead, we get so many things that are not earned like Echo, Agatha show etc as opposed to focusing on the direct fallout from Endgame.
    That's why I loved Deadpool and Wolverine because they are able to have fun with the BTS of all these movie buzz stuff from Marvel and give the chance to the other Marvel characters of movies to shine without making fun of them. By this point, I would have expected that the MCU has earned the respect to not have to do the easy joke of "we are self-aware bc we make fun of these movies being comic based." Whereas D&W focuses on celebrating the Marvel B side. Cameos here are the next step of Andrew Garfield on No Way Home, taking a fan favorite interpretation the time to shine and redeem the story of the character. I personally felt much happier and joyful over the heroes assembled for this movie for the little while they had as opposed to what could be the Avengers right now in the MCU.

    DJ brings up a good point with the Doom casting. RDJ is clearly not going to be the main Doom in ten years. The reactions to it (mainly people complaining about RDJ not being Romani) feel incredibly overblown. Now, that's not to say I think Doom shouldn't be played by a Romani actor. RDJ will probably be Doom for these two movies, and that's it. Still, we know absolutely nothing about Sacred Timeline Doom. I think fans were going to complain about the casting no matter what. I feel like it was always going to be a lose-lose situation. We don't really know anything about these movies other than the names and the fact that Doctor Doom will be in them.

    Really surprised at DJs comments on Deadpool referencing a Loki episode. Fine if he doesn't like it, but it wasn't that Deadpool had to tell everyone what it was from. It's a fourth wall reference to comic book editor's notes that reference events in previous issues.

    • @djtalkstrash
      @djtalkstrash Před měsícem +1

      It's textbook lampshading. They needed to catch the audience up on an obscure-ish plot point from Loki but they dressed it up like a joke. I get what you mean about editor's notes, but movie's are a very different medium. Imagine an editor's note in a comic that told you that you had to watch a semi-unrelated episode of TV to understand a plot point that's unfolding. It's a wild expectation.

    • @kerororox
      @kerororox Před měsícem

      @djtalkstrash Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if that is it completely, but it just felt more like a comic reference and possible dig at Marvel for having all this stuff you need to keep up with. I think it just doesn't bother me as much, though I do understand your point.

    I think X-23 is the same one we saw in Logan, but that would mean that the Deadpool movies don't take place in the same universe as the other X-Men movies. Deadpool is set in present day, whereas Logan was set in 2029 and since X-23 is now a grown woman, that means she got pruned sometime in the 2030s. Plus, we see the younger versions of the X-Men briefly in that room in Deadpool 2 instead of the older versions, so that's another clue he's not in the main Foxverse timeline. Why X-23 and all the other characters were pruned isn't clear and I'll agree the whole anchor thing isn't clear either. As far as Wolverine's arc, it's more than simply abandoning his team when they needed him. He had a mental break from what happened to them and went on a massive killing spree which resulted in some innocent people dying too. It makes total sense the guilt from that and letting his team down would have him the way he is when Deadpool meets him in the bar. I don't know what else you need to be convinced.

    During the opening with Wade travelling to 616, I honestly chalked it up to the Cable time machine he stole. Because in the end of DP2 he went to get rid of Ryan Reynolds before GL, and also the Origins Version of Deadpool. Which, technically wouldnt be time travel, itd be multiverse hopping, right?

    • @djtalkstrash

    IMO this felt like a deadpool sequel, an mcu movie and a fox xmen movie crammed into one. i think a combining 2 of those could have worked but all three is too much.
    the middle 45 minutes was my favorite- it felt like deadpool dropped into a (good) fox xmen movie-i was never more engaged then just watching jackman and emma corrin interact (shes in the very small pantheon of great live action x-villains). i wish they would have dropped the broader fox characters (and mcu tva stuff) all together and just gone w/ all xmen-give us turner and janssens together, or anya taylor joy as magik or blue and yellow suited james marsden scott, or ben foster as archangel. esp if were never seeing them again. (also this is clearly an mcu movie since theyre wasting cassandra nova as a one off when she could easily replace kang)
    I think it felt less like a clip show and more like those episodes where they have to get past guest stars together for a team up haha.
    w/ the multiverse i feel the same but from the opposite angle-i love the idea of breaking the mcu up into different areas(multiverses) so its not slavish to one overarching continuity (same issue i have w/ comics). F4 in a 60s retro future? love it, but not if it has to tie into chris evans cap or shang chi or whatever. ive always ddreamt of the xmen having their own independent universe-specifically an r rated one to delineate it from the pg13 avengers mcu (and considering the two biggest xmen stars have made billions in r rated movies i feel vindicated for this).
    as for rdj, D+W just became the highest grossing r rated movie ever by bringing back familiar faces audiences love. i doubt feige thinks he made the wrong decision, though its not at all what i would have done.
