This is the side of America we don't see in Britain. A decent Family man, with a lovely family. Polite, quiet, hardworking, An all round really decent guy. With cool old cars I've never even heard of. This is why I love your channel.
Bently will remember this trip with his dad for the rest of his life. Excellent Derek!
Absolutely. He's gonna tell his friends about this for years to come.
He'll show his friends how it's done
I came here to say just that. This will be a cherished memory.
Exactly. Though i dont doubt Derek is doing well. When i think of my life how i wished my dad and i were doing whatever together. That bond or lack of is major to human interaction. Its really an awesome to see you two working together. I cant wait for the episode.
DEREK GETS SCHOOLED BY LITTLE GRIP GARAGE. 😂😂✌🇺🇸.
My dad took me on a similar road trip and I still remember it. A feller is a good dad for it
You’ve quickly turned into my favorite channel. I’m an old shade tree mechanic from southern Oregon. Your a guy I’d enjoy meeting.. keep doing what your doing please.
Thanks Rick
I AGREE, HE'S A GREAT GUY, EASY-GOING AND FUNNY. I WOULD BE SO LUCKY TO BE FRIENDS WITH HIM. 🙃
The wife and I just binged the entire series....what an amazing experience for you and Bentley both.....we had a blast tagging along 👣🇺🇲👣
I love the series man, its great to see some good wholesome father son bonding mixed with classic american cars and roadtrips👍
Have a good trip thank you for the great videos
Hell yea Brother. 😂😂✌🇺🇸 Murica. Cuz of the way that it is.✌
Agreed
I just can't believe it! But I guess I have to because it's right here in front of me! The best road trip/repair/father & son bonding trip I ever did see!! Thanks Derek & Bentley for helping me remember all the trips that my dad & I had long ago!!
The thing i hate about every episode is when it ends. Thank you for the fantastic story and content. I have loved the family episodes since you started doing them and can't wait for the next one.
Me and my Freind used to slide vehicles over plowed fields and that was a laugh😂😄
Great memory trip for Bentley , his kids will hear these stories of him and grandpa going on a long road trip of forgotten history .
Now my day is complete! Love VGG!!
Derek, I thoroughly enjoyed this series. What a way to spend some quality time with the boy.
When I made this trip one year ago, we didn’t make the stops. I was amazed at the abandoned buildings everywhere.
Oh and the trains full of Amazon!
I watched it before but had to watch it again. I had a chance years ago to drive the "Mother Road" but never did. I hope you make some money for the charity from the truck. I wish I'd had a dad like Bentley has, he's a lucky man.
Thanks for this series, Derek. It's been nice getting to tag along.
Brought back lots of childhood memories. Back in the 60's, our family drove from eastern Kentucky to the California coast and back. It took four days out and four days back, all without A/C. Lots of those places that are now abandoned were open back then. Glad you and Bentley got to share this adventure. He will definitely remember it.
Weird. Back in 1968 my family drove from Western Ky to California in a 1962 Buick with no A/C. Going thru the desert it was cooler to leave the windows up. And you are right, alot of the abandoned places were open back then. Would love to do it all over again, maybe with A/C this time tho.
Bringing back similar memories...Early '60s..2dr 1950 Pontiac Chieftain no AC. Aunt, Uncle, Mom and us 3 kids. Norwood, Oh to Whittier, Ca via Route 66
1962. Dad drove us from Pennsylvania to Gardena, California in a 1959 Ford Galaxie 500 automatic with no reverse gear. Had to be careful not to have to back out of anyplace. When we got settled, he took it in to get looked at. Tightened the bands for $2.70. Dad was happy but mad at the same time. Same Route 66 trip back in 1970 and still remember the Whiting Bros. stations and curio shops everywhere.
B. B. will be the teacher soon! He loves working with his pop and I can see him continuing the legacy. Smart kid, and what a difference having both parents committed to the family makes. It’s refreshing to see when today’s “ throw away “ society has become toxic imo. Good stuff gentlemen.
Again, Derek inadvertently teaches us not only automotive things but also schools us dads on how to be a father. Love the truck. I'd also love to do a roadtrip like this with my boys
It makes me smile to see how much fun you two are having On this trip!
Dereck, you are such a great father. Exposing your son to the wild west will stay with him forever. Arizona and New Mexico are full of forgotten towns that clearly tell you what was happening in the 50s and 60s. Maybe they will come back someday?
D when your going to be an old guy scooting around trying to suck down a bowl of grits and a wobble pop these videos and memories will be priceless!!
Derek... you're a BLAST to watch but love the MOST what an amazing dad and husband you are. I couldn't help talking about this video series on my radio program and promoting your channel. Keep up the great work!
That closing scene brought a tear to my eye, thanks for taking us along in the trip with you guys!
I've been a long haul truck driver for 37 years and have stopped or stayed at almost every place you've shown during your trip. I've loved every minute of it ! It saddens me to see so much of Americana shut down and tatted up but, I'm grateful for having had the opportunity to experience these places over the years! This has been a blast. Thank you my friend!!!
From Tucson to Tucumcari, Tahachapi to Tonapah, as the song goes.
"standing on a corner in winslow arizona, such a fine sight to see. it's a girl my lord, in a flatbed ford, slowing down to take a look at me!" one of my all time fave lines, from an all time fave song. love them eagles! used to have all of their albums back in high school, when they were still making new ones. you fellers take it easy, and thanx for letting us be a mouse in yer pocket on this trip.
Thanks for taking me on a road trip . The only road trip I'll be able to afford this summer .
It’s so cool to see how relaxed Bentley is with you! That says a lot to me! I never had that connection with my dad sadly!
i feel kinda refreshing to see this
@@Jacobvonfrankinstone B S
Me neither, always on the edge, having to say the right things! & when he gave one of his looks, watch out.
The BEST Vice grip garage I've seen so far. My son died in 2010 and this show has warmed my heart to see how a father and son can take a road trip like this and enjoy the adventures you have filmed. I miss my son so much and thank you for bringing a smile to this old man again.
The old gas station is a great place for a Bucees! Keep the old building for historical purposes!
Great place to stretch your legs on a trip!!
This channel never gets old I love the new content always fresh and clean fun to watch.
25:02 Derick, I know it was a long trip with several breakdowns and not getting to all of the places you planned. However, I have no doubt seeing the joy on little man's face inside the tee-pee made every pitfall worth it!
I took my son last year. We stayed at the Tee Pee Motel in Holbrock AZ. We had a blast. Best coffee at the coffee shop across the street from where you were standing in Winslow AZ. It was such a fine sight to see. You have given Bentley the best gift you can imagine. He will have that memory with you for the rest of his life. I now have to take his twin to see Route 66. We will be flying to Chicago to pick up a car, and the three of us will drive all of Route 66.
Thanks for taking us for the ride it was GREAT!
That was a fantastic series, thanks for taking us along and I'm sure your son will remember it forever as well, if you don't make father of the year then I'll eat my hat
My Son died 2 years ago today. It was so nice to see Derek on the road with his Boy. It was almost as if I was there doing all those things with my Boy we didn’t get to do nearly enough of. I sure Love that ol Chevrolet too. They brought it a looong way since they pulled it from the field. 😊
Was waiting for another episode. Best way to start a Friday night!
I'm stoked to have you guys as my American family
Ok the series is a year old but I thoroughly enjoyed every video. I am a big fan of Bentley, what a great young man enjoys being with dad & not afraid to get his hands dirty. Derek you amaze me with your knowledge of auto mechanics. Trouble shooting is your expertise & repairing in parking lots or roadside.
Amazing road trip for father and son , I appreciate you letting us hang with you , you guys stay safe
Wow!! This series Is awesome!!! Great memories with your son!!! The world needs more dads like you!!!
Thanks for allowing us to join you fellars. Was an awesome trip.
Bentley is gonna have a serious root beer habit now. This is awesome glad you guys got to enjoy the country together.
Bentley is a great kid and I’m sure he won’t soon forget this adventure!
Thanks to you and Bentley for taking us along on an awesome bucket-list trip. Sharing the adventure, the sights, AND the repairs will stick with us all. Hope to catch a ride down the old 66 sometime myself, it truly is a thing to experience.
Did it it’s worth it Beautiful Check out the Painted Hills in New Mexico Awesome. 😎💕🇺🇸
Said it before during the crew cab carpet replacement and will say it again, Little Grip has some respect, love how he took his boots off before getting on the new carpet, and how he kept doing it the remainder of the trip.
Derek and Bentley thank you for letting us watch you guys do this it was awesome 👍👍👍👍😉😉
The interior really perked right up with all the work you’ve done to it, I bet that last leg of the trip was a fair bit more enjoyable once the bulk of the musty interior was replaced.
Pretty awsome that you got to take this trip with the boy. Memories he will carry with him forever.
In 2003 I pulled into a gas station on 66, in Winslow, while "Take it Easy" was on the radio. I understand Derek. Glad you could take Bentley along for the ride. My son and I made the trip from Wichita together 3 times. Awesome series!
Know what makes this trip? You son being with you... Just you and him. 💪🌄
This trip was fantastic. Glad everything mostly went well. The root beer, the truck, and what great memories were made on the way. Thanks for bringing us along for the ride.
Thanks for taking us along Derek & Bentley. Really enjoyed this series from first to last.
How bout a bloopers reel one time for the wholesome folks after America. Just seems like a fellers life is an accidental comedy show. Thanks for sharing and always safe travels upon ya'll.
When you stopped in Houck AZ it brought back so many memories. I am a retired Greyhound Bus driver. That was our meal stop en route to Albuquerque. I saw it when it was hustling and bustling. It was a pancake house. They put in the Taco Bell for our passengers. I'm not sure why it closed, we were told that it would no longer be a stop. It was shortly after that it shut down. Thank you and your boy for the great trip down memory lane.
Absolutely perfect. Loved every moment of this journey.
You sir are a class act. More of us need to be like you. Thank you for all that you do and I look forward to your next adventure. Keep up the good work!
Enjoyed this episode, great job. Glad you showed HOLBROOK AZ ! The town was named after my Great great uncle, Henry Randolph Holbrook. We were in that very spot for the towns centennial celebration in 1982.
Nice trip with your son. He’ll never forget it either.
☺️ Brings back awesome memories of me, my two sisters, mom and dad blasting down the highway in dad's Oldsmobile station wagon listening to tunes on the 8 track and the always present rumble of that Oldsmobile big block. No seat belts, third row rear facing seat with the rear window down with not a care in the world just enjoying it! Damn those were the days... No tablets, no cell phones, no internet and still there weren't enough hours in the day to pack in all the fun and things to do!
THANK'S FOR THAT TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE. WELL PUT''
My childhood was almost this...
Also add the faux wood paneling down the side of the Olds station wagon.
The old man may have had a "cold snack" or 2 while driving. It was the 70s after all.
As always great trip Derek and thanks for taking us along! The little guy looked like he was having the time of his life. Cool Eagles reference…
Oh man. The musical highway is only on the shoulder of the east bound lane. I am glad you guys got to take such a trip! I really enjoy your work and your family! Thanks VGG
I just want to say hi that I can see everybody's doing okay I think it's awesome that you took your son 1600 Mi across country with an old Chevy and you fixed it on the way to show him how dude you're an awesome father man not too many fathers would do that thumbs up buddy
What a MONUMENTAL TRIP and experience for you and Bradley!
More road trips to come I presume.
Thanks for sharing this special trip with us Dman. I hope someday soon you'll take a family trip and just leave us at home so you can have some private time with them. You've been real generous and we really appreciate it! Much love AZ!
that kid will have amazing memories forever
I remember when my dad ,sister and I did a tour of the southwest and he stood on a corner in Winslow Arizona. Memories for life!!
Really really enjoyed this trip along with you guys! Almost made me feel like I was right along with yall. Awesome journey!!
Its refreshing to see a father who is doing it right. most kids nowadays would have been stuck to a screen and not have seen 3.869 percent of the sights and experiences that you and your son shared together. What great memories that will be shared with your grandchildren and generations to come. Bently will grow to be a good man like his father and it gives a small sliver of hope for this lost world. Thanks for sharing the lesson that a lot of fathers should pay attention to.
Great to see you enjoying this trip with your son, he will never forget it
Fort Courage was from the TV show "F-Troop". Back in the 70s that was a really busy tourist stop.
Awesome trip with your son, I promise he will never forget it, and 30yrs from now, you’ll be at thanksgiving dinner at his house, and the grandkids can listen to the story he tells them about it.. what a wonderful display of what some mechanical skills can add too a life adventure. Somehow I have to feel like that old truck appreciated it’s second chance at a bucket list.too!!.. I’ve always felt old abandoned machines have a soul, waiting to be rescued.. Great Work!! Keep it up
Thanks for taking us along Derek. That has always been a bucket list trip for my family. My son and I plan to do it in the fall of 2023 when we complete our 1968 VW Squareback. Seems like the perfect vehicle for the trip.
I’ve really enjoyed these Route 66 videos, thank you sir, you are a blessing!
So Cool an amazing trip and thanks a bunch for letting all of us tag along..... This is still on my bucket list to travel Route 66......
The flatbed Ford was the icing on the cake! Perfect ending for the epic trip.
IKR? Best to you, Kent!
Hi Derek and Bentley, thanks for taking us along! This was a fantastic series!
that road trup brings back memories for me, glad to see you make some lasting memories with your young guy
Love that truck and you guys too, glad to a good DAD for your awesome family ( and MOM)
Great road trip Derek, you've taken me places ill never get to see , and a memorable journey you and your son will remember forever, thanks for bringing us all along.
I enjoy everything you do Sir! This is no exception. Great trip with great company!
I like Bentley, cool lil' dude, looking forward to his CZcams videos in 15-20 years. Signed, Doc Rowe in Jacksonville, Alabama.
Look up Little Grip Garage here on the CZcams. Bentley has his own channel.
What an awesome trip!!! Thanks for letting us tag along brother!!! #simplepleasures
Absolutely made my day!!!!!! I’m a huge Eagles fan!! Derek you have no idea what your channel does me, it’s been a really tough week l lost my big brother this past week, he was a incredible guy and father, he was a fantastic man who taught me the automotive trade his 1940 ford coupe was a beautiful car as well many other classic cars he built, thank you so very much for all the great videos you and family do
God Bless
This was a really fun trip we all got to take with you two, Derek. Your son will always cherish the memories from this trip with you, ones past, and all the ones to come. "Best to enjoy the things we can, while we can, as a day will come where we can no longer" Love from friends in NC.
Derek this is such a great thing you did with your son. He'll remember this four the rest of his life. I remember when my old man took me to NYC. taking the subway for the first time, going to FAO swourse and going up top the twin towers.
This six part series with the truck revival and Route 66 road trip is the best Vice Grip Garage has published. I've watched it three times. I'm surprised that truck didn't sell for more than 15k at clarity auction. The engine had extensive work, rebuilt trans and restored interior. I think it was worth 20k. Especially after a 1600 mile road test shake down. Usually restored classic cars only get driven locally before getting sold. There's no expectation that it could be driven across the country.
What a great trip and thanks for taking us along. This is on my bucket list too.
Derek this is something your little human is going to remember for the rest of his life !! Great job dad
Bentley seems like such a good kid and a good sport. Somehow, inexplicably, he seems serious-minded in spite of his dad's goofiness. Lol. I wish I had the patience to explore on road trips like you do. I just focus on the destinations(s) and hate to stop and smell the local attractions. Nice series, and a great trip!
Little man will never forget this trip either thanks Derek for sharing brother keep on keeping on
It's been great to come along with you and Bently. You two put smiles on my face.
If it is one thing that I love about your channel, it is that you always bring the family into the mix. Keep up the great work that you do Derek and God Bless you on your travels. God Bless the USA!!!
And you drove into Phoenix, my town!! We got a BANGER of a Monsoon last night, hope the rest of the trip went well guys!!!
Your boy is learning. Good work dad!
Cracking trip. Your lad and yourself have made some memory’s like no other and most of all, made time for father and son. Really nice to see.
Could you explain what cracking means?
@@joshuareed5773 Dynamite? Fantastic? Great? Take your pick of many others! :)
Also, I'm guessing from the first four words of the comment that this person is either Australian or UK,
@@cotton-Dave you're probably right, it was just something I had never heard before because well MERICA
Cracking means something good.
Amazing trip might have been better wording. Nothing drug related. Haha
Thanks for taking us along on your and little man's adventures. Really enjoyed it
pure ameeican gold. father and son on a trip like that. loved every minute of it
Good job buddy hope you an son are doing great be safe take care see you in the next video
There are some awesome memories that you are building with your Son. I love All of your videos and just wish there could be more. Keep up the great 👍
This was one, if not the best, series on CZcams I've ever watched. I've always wanted to cruise RT66 with my dad, so this gave me a glimpse of what's to see and do. Thanks for doing this trip. Your son will treasure the memories for the rest of his life.
Just had my first kid 8 months ago, can’t wait until I can take him on duo road trips
Cool thanks for taking me along 😊
