Unintentional asmr works so much better. I hate fake whispering and or when people repeatedly make tapping noises or crinkle noises. It only works for me when it occurs naturally. The deepest asmr I ever felt was when I was a kid checking out books at the library (1980s) and the librarian would lick their finger before turning a page and then swipe the bar code of the book with that electronic pen with the red light for a tip. They haven't used those pens in decades.

Unintentional ASMR is so pure. The classic VHS recording with wired mics. The light talking through each step of their posture program. The light movement of hands on different pieces and textures of clothing. It’s absolutely perfect.
What’s really fascinating, amazing and kind of sad; Richard and Elisabeth have probably been passed for 20+ years. Most of the “young people” in this video are in their 50’s and 60’s today. I love looking back in time. This video is a gem.
**Edit, I just looked it up. Richard passed away in 1992 at 81 and Elisabeth made it to 2013, passing away at the age of 98! Bless them both**

I took several classes in Alexander Technique when I was in drama school, and it is not at all as mysterious and cultish as it might appear here. It’s really just about developing good posture, and learning to keep the head, neck, back and hips in proper alignment. It is perfectly harmless, and I found parts of it quite helpful.

For those wondering what he's actually teaching, it's called Alexander technique:
The Alexander technique teaches improved posture and movement, which is believed to help reduce and prevent problems caused by unhelpful habits.
During a number of lessons you're taught to be more aware of your body, how to improve poor posture and move more efficiently.
Teachers of the Alexander technique believe it helps get rid of tension in your body and relieves problems such as back pain, neck ache, sore shoulders and other musculoskeletal problems.
Evidence suggests the technique has the potential to improve certain health conditions, but there are some claims made about the technique that haven't been scientifically tested

I did Alexander technique for a few months when I was younger, as I was developing back problems from bad posture and stress, and it honestly made a huge difference for me physically. I 'grew' 2 inches in the space of a few months just by my spine decompressing and my posture straightening out (I was already fully grown before that), my gait completely changed (my knees were weak and inward turned before) and my back pain cleared up. I'm out of practice with the techniques now, but I can still call on them to do a 'quick fix' when I find myself unbalanced and slouching, and sometimes get back into regularly practicing the exercises if I start to get back pain.
At least in my experience there was no 'woo' involved in the therapy, it was simply a skilled physical therapist teaching you to be aware of how different parts of your body are involved when standing, sitting, lying down, and moving, and teaching exercises and visualisations which help you bring all parts of your body into alignment (e.g. standing with your feet at the right distance and angle, how to balance your weight as you bend, how to move in an efficient way which uses the natural effect of momentum rather than your muscles trying to compensate.
Physical touch is only used to indicate specifically which area they want you to adjust, to help you to focus on specific muscles you might not be used to accessing, and in the early stages to help move you into the correct position manually so you know what it should feel like. I'm sure the gentle physical touch can be therapeutic for some people in a more emotional sense, but that's not really the point of the therapy. However therapeutic touch along with the relaxation aspects of the therapy, and the focus on slowing down and paying attention to your body may well have a side-effect of helping with emotional stress - and that might have been a factor causing bad posture in the first place - so it's a win-win!

Having never heard of AT when I enrolled it was quite mesmerising to have them teach you. They had wonderful posture, perfect diction and a deeply relaxing presence. It was a two-year diploma course and had previously been part of the New College Speech and Drama, whose most famous pupil was Helen Mirren.
