Can an Adjustable Base Fit Inside my Bedframe?

  • It’s one of our most common questions and the answer is: It depends...
    Assess what you currently have:
    If you have a regular headboard, footboard, and rails, with just the slats going across it, absolutely. The answer is yes, and most of the time an adjustable base can fit inside the bed frame on its own legs. Simply remove the slats inside of your bed frame and put the adjustable base inside.
    Do you have a platform bed? Usually, the answer is no. One of the reasons is because not all adjustable bases are a zero clearance. With zero clearance, when I adjust the feet up high, a lot of times, the legs will come down, and then it will hit the frame that's underneath.
    Also, platform beds generally sit a lot higher than a regular bed frame. So by the time that you put an adjustable base on top of it, you're going to be literally climbing into your mattress, and you'll need a pole vault to get inside.
    Summary:
    Regular/Traditional Bedframes (Headboard/Rails/Slats) = YES Platform Beds with Storage Underneath = NO
    Platform Beds without Storage = Possibly, but most likely NO

      Kelvin, we also carry a Serta base that can go on platform beds. As the video suggests, however, we don’t recommend it. After adding an adjustable to an already tall platform bed, it’s like adding a box spring. The majority of the time this will cause you bed to be entirely too high off the ground. That is why we would suggest not attempting this.

      J Garner Great question! 99.99% of the time adjustable bases are the exact measurements of a standard rail/metal frame. So in that case, the adjustable would replace your existing frame. • @TheFurnitureMall-KS-TX-MO
      @TheFurnitureMall-KS-TX-MO  Před 4 lety

      marypinchesme1 each bed frame Manufacturer is different. The likelihood of having your adjustable bases fitting perfectly inside of your frame is highly unlikely and at the same time not helpful. The more space you have(Such as the 6 inches you mentioned) allows you to remove the adjustable in the future if you rearrange or move. If it hadn’t been this way, it could prove to be a difficult task. Also, adjustable bases have the exact same dimension as a box spring. So even if you didn’t have them, you’d likely still have this gap. Hope this was helpful.

    We just bought a king adjustable bed and I'm looking to purchase a bed frame with a headboard, foot board and side rails. The problem is that in the specifications area (on line stats) it says that it's not adjustable bed compatible. It looks just like any other bed frame - with 4 metal slats that would be screwed into the frame to support a box spring (that I would omit so the adjustable bed frame would sit there). Am I not seeing something? If a box spring and mattress can fit inside the frame, an adjustable bed and frame should fit, right???

      I am also puzzled by that Kris. I am searching for a metal bed that is compatible with my adjustable king bed. All I can do at this point is to make sure my measurements are accurate I suppose.

      Great question. Generally any panel bed is compatible. A panel bed is a standard Headboard, Footboard, and Rails with slats across. After purchasing an adjustable base, the slats should be removed so that the adjustable can sit on its own legs inside of your frame. Bedframes that wont work are beds with storage drawers and platform beds. These types of frames prevent the adjustable from standing on its own inside of your frame. Was this helpful?

If the base has no legs and is designed as a zero clearance model, there should be no reason for it not to work right?
