I agree with your point though. It is definitely not parking in all jurisdictions, but it is also not driving. Thusly, it shouldn't be considered distracted driving otherwise anyone in a cell lot at an airport with there car running would be considered distracted driving. If accurate, would they also be considered to be driving while talking on the phone, too?

Upon our return, we found a ticket on our windshield and its time was second after we paid our parking spot. We had to contest it, waste of time. Judge dismissed it as if he was used to seeing these type of tickets.. Sometimes people don't have a way to find time to even go to court to contest it and have to pay for this..

Always fight your tickets! I've had 4 tickets in the last decade and haven't paid any of them. I went to court and they had to prove I was guilty. Three times the ticket was thrown out because of highly confusing parking signs and the 4th was a speeding ticket (going 70km in a 60km zone). Since I contested the ticket the cop who gave it to me had to show up in court. He didn't show up so the ticket was again thrown out. He was handing out tickets using radar about 20 meters from the sign where the speed goes down. The judge looked disgusted when it was pointed out to her what he was doing so I think it's probably for the best that the cop wasn't there. He probably knew it and that's why he didn't show up. I've saved over $1000 over the years on tickets that I didn't deserve. Always fight your tickets. Unless you've got money to burn, in which case, send some my way please!

    Suggestions for solutions:
    1) Rules like not parking near a side walk or park near a fire hydrant shouldn't apply if a sign says you can park on the spot
    2) Required the CCTV cars to get pictures to prove the driver isn't sitting in the car and if the driver sits in the car set a time limit before the car is considered parked with the requirement that they need to get atleast one more picture
    3) Anyone who wins a case in court for a faulty parking ticket should be entitled to 10 times (or another appropriate number) the sum of the parking ticket in compensation, then it wouldn't be beneficial to misuse the authority if the parking enforcement can expect atleast one of ten to challenge the case

A few years ago, I got one from a private parking agency. I was visiting an office, and parked in what I thought was a legal spot behind their building on Spadina near UT. Came out after an hour only to find the ticket. I wish I had this information then. I would have told them where to go!

As a foreign-born Canadian, this kind of behaviour is one of the things that bothers me the most about life in Canada. This feeling that you are a cash cow. From parking tickets everywhere to extremely high cell phone bills, insurance, and the banking fees to pay, withdraw, transfer, etc. This is just ridiculous.

I got a fine in wexford Ireland years ago. It was 40 pounds. The marking meter was not working. I went to the council office with pictures of the out of order meter in a dispute over the ticket. They refused the dispute. So I told them I would be back to pay then. I went to the bank and I got 40 pounds in 2 pence coins. I went back to the council after unwrapping the coins and put them up on the table after adding in 5 10pence pieces. I was told I couldn't pay like that it had to be a minimum number of coins. I asked for a supervisor who told me the same. I asked him to count it in front of me. I was asked what the problem was and explained that it was over a disputed ticket. He was more inclined to look at my evidence at that point and wrote off the ticket as invalid. I got rid of the coins to a couple of local shops after

I parked at my work and got a pass from the supervisor, but regardless Precise Parking issued me a $69.75 parking INVOICE (not ticket) for not displaying it. Visitors park their cars and by the time they a pass, they get tagged with similar tickets. I am so thankful for this video. Now I'm gonna go play trash can basketball with my ticket ... err invoice!

In alberta they have deal with the registry. They wait you until you renew your plate number and boom you have to pay it. The registry office will charge $9.00 extra for every ticket. I had 5 tickets 4 of them from infront of my apartment (downtown) and one from the grocery story where they have a sing clearly saying you can park for 2 hours. So those 5 tickets coasted me $475.00 plus 45 dollar for the registry total of $520.00. The parking authority office is closed, also the court is closed and even if it was open the line up will take 2 to 4 hours. It's hard to believe the city is scaming its own residence.

pbreedu I live on the river and we have 3 cars. They make you jump through hoops to get a parking permit. By law they have to give me a free pass because I bought my place. They hate doing this. I'm surprised they haven't tried to change that law yet. Maybe because a lot of councillors live downtown. I have 5 judges who live in my building so that helps.

This makes me angry too and I am not even Canadian. I live in LA where you can also get baited for tickets. In fact it is so bad in LA, we even have parking apps, for your phone, that tells you where and when you can park on public streets.

In Winnipeg another cash trap is designating residential side streets a snow route. This means you can’t park overnight but there’s no signs telling you this. Technically, any street in Winnipeg can be designated a snow route. Without signs indicating no over night parking, the parking authority makes a mint. Why you can’t park in front of your house in the winter when there is no scheduled snow removal just doesn’t make any sense.
