In Bangla/Bengali (The language of Bangladesh), there are some similarities in the terms of Idioms with German and English. Zum Beispiele-
1. Gift drauf nehmen- বাজি ধরতে পারো (Pronunciation- Baji dhorte paro) (Meaning- You can bet that!)
2. zwei fiegen mit einer klappe schlagen- এক ঢিলে দুই পাখি মারা (Pronunciation- Ek dhile dui pakhi mara) (Meaning- to kill two birds with one stone)
In this case, we are cruel like the English! Ha ha ha!
3. Schlafen wie ein Murmeltier- কুমিরের মত ঘুমানো (kumirer moto ghumano) or, কুম্ভনিদ্রা (kumbhonidra) (Meaning- Sleeping like a crocodile!)
In this case, we used crocodile!
4. Eine extrawurst haben- তেল মারা (tel mara) (meaning- to give extra oil)
In this case, we used oil rather than German sausages because oil is produced more in our country!
5. nur bahnhof verstehen- ঘোড়ার ডিম বোঝা (ghorar dim bojha) (Meaning- to understand a horse's egg)
Or, কচু বোঝা (kochu bojha) (meaning- to understand edible root)
We use these two rather than train station! Ha ha ha
6. etwas wie seine Westentasche kennen- নাড়ি-নক্ষত্র জানা (nari-nokkhotro jana) (meaning- to know the stars and planets!)
In a word, it literally means "to know everything" in Bangla also.
7. seinen senf dazugeben- নাক গলানো (nak golano) (meaning- to melt your nose into something!) In a word, inappropriate comments.
8. Klar wie klossbruche- কাঁচের মত পরিষ্কার (kacher moto porishkar) (meaning- clear as a glass)
In this case, we have an indirect similarities to English

Hi Sir Luzi and Sir Johannes. Out of topic but i just wanna ask what's the difference between the verb "zeigen" and "entgegenbringen"? Is there any or can i use it interchangeably? Can you please give some example sentence for each? Thanks so much.
no they are not interchangeable.

entgegenbringen is mosty used with “Verständnis”
er hat mir verständnis entgegengebracht.
he has shown me understanding.
but very rarely used.

My favorite German Idiom is, „Das ist nicht dein/mein Bier!“
Applies to the situation like for example, someone ask you too much about your life, manipulate you or wants to preach how you should do it, it means it is not your business to middle with it! Or if you have someone tried to influence you something you never did in your life and does not want to be part of it, it also means „It is not my thing, I don‘t want to be part of it“. 😊

The translation of "fertig" (fix und fertig) should better be: "done" in this content, that makes more sense, even though ready is not wrong.
Re: "seinen Senf dazugeben"... Hat das immer eine negative Konnotation? "To give one's two cents" ist meistens in der erste Person und ein bisschen selbstironisch, zum beispiel "Just my two cents, but..." oder "To give my two cents: ...".

Swine was a old family name, merchants who could read.
Swine -> Schwein -> pig
Funny the old family name Swine also was in old English the word for pig.
But in old German swine was also used, today Schwein is used

To sleep like a dog is defnitely also a valid English idiom. Less common, but it does have its own Wiktionary entry!
@@jamie_miller Maybe so, but it's not in any standard dictionaries and I've never heard any native speaker use that expression in conversation. 'Work like a dog' and 'sick as a dog' are also common English idioms but of course they mean something different. More likely this is just a case of a mixed simile.
Slept like a baby, slept like a log are two we say in the US

All related to grammar and language. I want to learn language and not want to study for exam. I am around 60 years and was professor in economics. So really interested in learning language with correct grammar. Right now I am for A2 level.
