Thank you for your lessons, they have been a good help to me. I'm about a year into learning the pipes, I've never done anyhting muscial before so its been a large learning curve. Glad to have other sources to help me move along. Especially right now with all the world wide lock downs stopping classes.

I am on my 5th week of lessons. Thank you for this video. It has made me hate that tune slightly less. Breaking down the phrasing was very helpful for me, because it sounded wrong even when I was playing it right.

    Is playing on the chanter:
    Shifts between D and E:
    Crossing noise comes out:
Neil: "You fool! You've fallen victim to one of the classic blunders!"

Hi Neil! Maybe I'm blind , but havenae met with this tune in my entire bagpipe journey , heard about it , but havenae played, used the NPC tutor one , and 2 , shall I buy the college tutor one too ? National piping centre doesnt like this tune ..

Quite surprised you haven't came across the the tune in your journey, its probably the most common tune pipers start on. having said that, I didn't start on it either. Anyway, entirely up to you whether you buy the book or not, the tune is available elsewhere, possibly online. What makes you say that the NPC doesn't like the tune?

I mean , NPC Tutor 1 is a big book with lots of tunes , and it wouldn't cost much to put the tune in..

Neil, when you post these lessons, general a beginner, how long would you estimate it takes to learn the tune, also for example when you pause for your student to play on their own, Do they get it first time ? In advance thank you Janet

    • @NeilClark-FalkirkPiping

Hi Janet. This one tends to be the first tune.. If it is, then very few will get it correct first time, it's a gradual thing, or should be. I've had kids take a month or more. others get it going in a week. The operative word is correct... I dare say plenty could produce an approximation in an hour or less

Thanks Neil, it’s the Gracenote between Note F and E then back to F on second half I was having trouble with, I’m afraid I learned some other beginner tumes before this, such as Amazing Grace and The Barnyards of Delgaty, Thank You again, we have a few mutual FB friends, Maggie Scott Stewart.

You'd be very lucky. Not unheard of, but you wouldnt get a decent new set for that price. Be careful looking on the net for second hand too. Good luck
