  • My fastest run for 2018, and FTD. Clocked at 177 km/hr into the speed trap at the first turn. The run was hampered a bit by oil on track from turn 3 all the way to 6. The car is a modified 1999 BMW M3, Supercharged, lightened to 2200 lbs, making about 500 whp. Shift lights blink at about 8000rpm, redline about 9000. This run ended my weekend, as somewhere near the end I sheared the key in the crankshaft pulley and lost boost.
Thanks to all the volunteers who worked so hard to clean up the track and make the event run smoothly! Thanks to my friends at UBC Sports Car Club for running around town to get spare parts to keep my car running through the weekend!

Great run! Sorry to hear about the crankshaft, I was wondering what happened when you guys started opening up the hood in the pits. Looking forward to seeing and chatting more about some changes for next year!

Sorry bout the crankshaft, I was wondering why you didn't come back up after this run. Me and my dad were watching and you can see us at 0:48. Caught you on camera if you want the footage. Amazing car!

Nice run Andre, congrats on FTD. That 9k run up the straight was crazy, and seemed like perfect gearing for the hill.
What do you have done to the valvetrain? Any head porting? What dampers and size tires do you run? What final drive / lsd setup? Brake setup (might as well, asked everything else ;).
I road race at mission and I'm building a 325i for endurance racing; but I have a 2nd engine with a turbo setup coming together so I can come chase you guys up the hill next year. From what I've read 7300 and up is solid lifter only territory. Also I'm sure you know this (others may not) but the vibration/harmonics get bad on these M/S5x inline 6's above 7300, so also keep a constant eye on your oil pump nut+shaft and even the pumps internals if suspect as they can crack. It has to do with the vibration transmitted through the timing chain.
I wonder how much the high rpm harmonics had to do with the crank key issue. Having the supercharger driven off the crank may have contributed too, one of the main reasons I'm a die hard turbo guy. I'm blown away at the output and rpm you're running with the S/C though.

Thanks! Maybe send me an email? andre@phas.ubc.ca Might be easiest to meet so I can show you what I've done. Solid lifters indeed. Was fine to 8000 rpm, but at 9000 under braking the energy reflected from the supercharger back-drove the accessory belt and crank pulley, causing the shaft key to get repetitively hammered. I think the answer is turbo+electric supercharger combo.

Another solid year! Thanks for making the effort to come out to Kelowna!
