    FYI, we did a gimbal firmware update after this video was done and were eventually able to get the native iPhone camera to connect via Bluetooth, so now we CAN do a simple start/stop which is nice (although we don't use the native app that often). Exploring whether this will work in other apps, too!

      Great! Can you use your moment 18mm wide lens in this gimbal w/ iphone xs max?

    • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  Před 3 lety

      That would be over the recommended weight of 260g, so probably not your best choice. The XS Max is 200g range alone. That lens is over 100g. Would probably look at Crane M2 or new MOZA Mini-P or FeiyuTech G6 Max.

    Another great video, 2 things though. First I’d like to see it in 4K if possible and also using the iOS native camera app, since the new Apple “Cinematic Stabilization” is way better than FilMics Pro.

      Thanks! We upload in 4K sometimes, but more often we don’t unless were focusing more on the image quality. Here it was mainly about stabilization, but we do upload 4K some. A Question : in Filmic Pro / Hardware setting it’s only got Zhiyun Smooth 4 does this mean the Q2 will work in that setting or, are we waiting for Filmic Pro to update with a new input for the Q2?

    • @LostThingsHD
      @LostThingsHD Před 4 lety +1

      I just wrote to the Filmic Pro Support and this is their answer:
      "At this time we do not have custom support for the Zhiyun Smooth Q2 or Feiyu Vlog Pocket in FilMiC Pro. I will pass your requests on to our product manager for consideration as they plan out the future development of FiLMiC Pro!
      For now, it's possible that you may be able to get the start/stop button working on these gimbals, but as I don't have either of them to test on I can't confirm that it will work. To do so, follow these steps:
      1.) Turn on your gimbal.
      2.) In your System Settings, select Bluetooth and connect to the gimbal.
      3.) In FiLMiC Pro's Settings > Device, scroll all the way to the bottom and toggle "Volume Keys Trigger Recording" ON.
      Once you've done this, you may be able to use the record button to start/stop recording. Like I said I don't have either of these units to test on so I can't confirm that it will work, but this is how we enable Bluetooth shutter remotes to work so it frequently works with unsupported gimbals as well. Please let me know if you have additional questions and I will be happy to assist!"

    Can you add a decent microphone + deadcat wind shield to an iPhone 11 Pro Max and still balance and stay inside the weight limit? I ask this because bad sound in windy conditions plagues my iPhone video recordings. Because of how the Osmo Mobile 3 starts up, you can’t have anything sticking out the end of your phone.

    Just bought one, at start up the gimbal shut down quite a few times even with a full charge, then it went dead, I I connected it again to power supply and it restarted, I tried it again and it seems to be ok now, but I've noticed if the phone touches to motor the gimbal packs a sad and has to be re-set, maybe it's operator error althogh I had the original smooth Q and had no issues at all apart from drowning it in salt water.....anyway only had the 2 for a few hours so will give it a good play over next few days. But I’ll give it a couple more days and if I don’t feel more comfortable with it I’ll be returning it and trying out the Benro 3xS.

    El estabilizador smooth Q2 es de buena calidad pero tiene varios defectos graves:
    - Si lo pones en vertical se ve el motor y te fastidia la toma, por lo que hay que usarlo siempre en ángulo de 45 grados
    - No tiene botones para controlar el zoom ni el joystick tampoco vale para eso
    - No tiene modo follow me (lo pones con el trípode y te sigue) o al menos yo no lo he encontrado

    I have the Osmo + that just broke and took my iPod touch with it. I was thinking of going Osmo Pocket, but frankly 100 mbps still seems limited. I was thinking of a iPhone 11 or 11 Pro/max and a gimbal like this to use with my FilmicPro app that I purchased last year. So far what modern iphone and gimbal is your top choice for a phone gimbal combination? I wold like to be able to use the ultra wide camera in flashlight mode like you did here.. also looking for an extension, so I can walk along and record footage at 3-6” off of the ground surrounded by feral cats in a colony for a project. The Osmo + was a good perspective, but handle broke while on the end of the baton extension. This gimbal looks well made and has a 1/3 or 1/4 tripod mount? Are there good extensions say 3 or 4 feet long.. preferably aluminum or metal as well for stability? Does not need to be collapsible.. prefer if it didn’t really. Especially when you have a $1,000 phone hanging on the end of it.

    • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  Před 4 lety +1

      This is a nice gimbal option and it’s definitely a professional-grade build, so it will hold up to wear and tear.
      One combo I keep going back to is the iPhone 11 Pro (or Max) and the Osmo Mobile 3. They work well together and are lightweight and easy to use. You could mount it on a monopod too. The gimbal is plastic versus this one being aluminum, but it’s still solid. Currently Filmic Pro doesn’t support it yet, but believe they will in the future.
      If you want to add accessories though like lenses etc. you should look at the Zhiyun M2 or the FeiyuTech G6 Max. Sturdier options that will hold more weight.

I must look for the sound and lighting the best options, but for now the sun and the microphones of the devices must support my productions...The question for you: What do you recommend between a ZhiyumQ2 and a mobile DJI osmo 3. I had my attention on the Q2 but the bluetooth connection and I don't know if being forced to work in flashlight mode is a disadvantage. My son has an iPhone 11 ProMax which I can use in ultra wide lens. What do you recommend?

    • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  Před 3 lety +1

      Have not tested that setup but my feeling is it would be a struggle. Typically OtterBox cases are not great on gimbals in our experience. Too bulky. And this gimbal only holds 260g. So it does not hold a lot of weight TBH. You might look at FeiyuTech G6 Max or the Moza Mini-P as those will hold pretty much anything phone related you can throw at it.

    Blake, again thank you for your time and review. I am very impressed with this Zhiyun Smooth Q2 Gimbal as al Real Estate Videographer. I currently have and use the Zhiyun full frame/mirror less camera body gimbal, so the build quality is very impressive and familiar. That said, I use camera lights on my rig and I am having a hard time working out how to use the Zhiyun Smooth Q2 Gimbal holding it in a flashlight position with a tee handle and mounted lights. This Zhiyun, you have clearly documented does have issues with the gimbal in your shot using the I phone 11 pro max wide angle lens. I think I am leaning to the Feiyu VLOG Pocket Handheld Gimbal which you also reviewed in an earlier video and does not present this problem. Question what was your impression of the motor on the Feiyu? Again thank you for your time and input, Great presentation. Mark

      The Vlog pocket is surprisingly robust. However, wouldn’t use that one with any additional accessories really. It’s just too small. It’s a great option for travel and portability. To hold more weight you might look at the FeiyuTech G6 Max. That might be the best gimbal in that class. There’s a review video in the gimbal playlist on our channel. Thanks for watching!

      @@iphoneographers Blake, thanks for the quick response, Impressive, really. Thank you. I will explore the FeigyuTechG6. Just to clarify, I have no intentions of putting lights on the gimbal motors and mounts only on the rig that accompanies it. This is a configuration I am trying to build and similar to what I do now with a Canon 5d Mark lV. So, I was wondering do you know if the Zhiyun Crane 2 gimbal body mentioned above , has the same diameter circumference as the as the Zhiyun Smooth Q2 gimbal body? If so, I think I have solved my challenge as I can mount the Smooth Q2 into the dual handle center mount ( Crane-EH002) for made to handle the Crane 2 circumference. If it is the same I can then mount the smooth 2 in a horizontal flash light configuration and use the t handle grips for the lights. Hope you can picture this by my description I was unable to get this info thus far but will call the company tomorrow. Anyway thank you again. Sincerely, Mark Sands

      Thanks! Here just did the conform within FiLMiC Pro. You can set the app to do it and you have automatic slow motion without having to do it in post. Otherwise you just conform in whatever editing app you’re using and in this case 120fps it would be a 20% slow-motion look. You could try what you’re suggesting however think it would be stuttery. With FiLMiC Pro you can shoot at 96FPS and conform in to 24P if you want.

The darn native software does some magic with shadows and bright skies that I cant even get close to on Filmic Pro.
