Here is some extra info on RM for you.... RM (Kim Namjoon) was born 12 Sept 1994... Predebut RM, known under the names Runch Randa, Largo, Stealo, and the Nexist in the underground hiphop community was already a prodigy in rap despite being 13years old (he started in the underground scene at 11 years old) impressing other rappers. RunchRanda which basically meant 'I am Runcha', he has said it was inspired by a game character he had at the time.
He was known to be so good that even older underground rappers in their 20s and 30s didn't wanna battle against him. Also, because of his low-midtone voice, philosophical lyrics and flashy rap skills he gained quite the popularity among hiphop fans. (Jungkook of BTS joined the same agency as he had been so impressed the first time he saw RM perform...)
Throughout 2008-2010 , RM (Runch Randa or Randa ) was mentioned multiple times by other rappers in their songs mostly complimenting RM or wishing they had skills or fame as him. An example for that is when Zico made a diss song to Philophon (35yo) who is also a rapper saying "you got your ass handed to you by a 13 yr old Runch" referencing that Philophon already lost to teen Namjoon.
RM joined BigHit in 2010 at 15 years old. His audition.was watched by the CEO of Big Hit and RM was offered a contract on the spot.... He was 18 when BTS debuted.
Maybe you can do a song from his youth also... Cause you love rock try
RM Throw away... live (no subs) czcams.com/video/4vC3FN6ROcQ/video.html
    Throw away.... lyric video czcams.com/video/WtDDhUzRSFw/video.html
As a metal head myself, I love this song.... but make sure you watch the live version cause he slayed it on stage... his energy on fire.... this was at 2015 All Force One....
Otherwise his most famous hard hitting raps are Joke and Do You... both songs are fire...
Helpful hint for when you do RMs solo songs Joke and Do You (and BTS Debut song No More Dream) - the official MV on BTS channel does not have eng subs - here are the links with subs Joke (Official MV eith eng subs) czcams.com/video/OxMrBNBWksM/video.html Do You (Official MV with eng subs) czcams.com/video/rN0_2jyOgzg/video.html Also - BTS No More Dream (2013 Debut song MV with eng subs) czcams.com/video/btIzXwxDWOY/video.html

A lot of people who don't listen to Rap doesn't realize that there is SO many different types of rap. It's not all "edgy" or "aggressive." The essence of Rap and Hip Hop is rhythm and poetry. And as RM said in the lyrics his beginning was Poetry.

    • @ReactionsThatRock
      @ReactionsThatRock  Před 5 měsíci +28

I don’t listen to much rap at all. Mostly none. I know there are different styles just as there are with rock, jazz, etc. I just find most of today’s rap to be mumbles designed to rhyme. The beat has become more important than the words.
Nice to see poetry is still alive and well in modern lyrics!

YOUJEEN is the lead singer to Cherry Filter. Like ERYKAH BADU also on Indigo she is an older gen artist known to not agree to collabs with young artists. It is a measure of the respect in which RM is held in the industry, that all these different artists and.producers agreed to collaborate with him. Each track on Indigo is a different genre. It is an album where the sum of its parts is greater than its individual componants. In RMs case he has used collaborations to create that something elusive something new.

RM is a poet. The sincerity that passes through poetry is incredible. I see a lot of artists who make songs about things and people. In BTS, most of the time, they talk about their own experiences. This brings us much closer to them, as we identify with real feelings.

I believe RM talked about the meaning of the word "flowerwork" (flower+firework) on the Zach Sang Show. (Please ARMY correct me if I'm wrong). Basically a firework rises high lights up and burns out/come down quickly and a flower, its petals, can also rise high with the wind but they come back down slowly and gracefully. I think RM has accepted his fame the happiness, fulfillment but also the burden that comes with it. Like a flowerwork, he burns bright and flies high cuz of fame but at the end of that fame, one day, he wants to come back down and return to the ground, his roots, slowly and gracelly like the petals of a flower.

    • @ReactionsThatRock
      @ReactionsThatRock  Před 5 měsíci +8

Sheer Poetry!!! I love that concept. I didn't quite catch the meaning of the firework during the song as I was perhaps too focused on the flowers. Amazing!

As a 50-something year old woman who mostly listened to classical music and the 80s hits of my youth, I also never expected to find ‘relatable’ in the music or other content of a group of young men from South Korea, or to find music sounds I loved from their very modern discography when I had basically given up on ‘new’ music! Building off of what another ARMY mentioned, fireworks are beautiful and loud and bright but can only launch once and then they fizzle out. Whereas a wildflower is unnamed, part of nature but also returns year after year. The spreading of wildflower petals or seeds, like a flowerwork, creates roots and makes the new spaces they land even more beautiful, whereas firework sparks can lead to wildfires and devastation

9:16 "I didn't expect to find relatable stuff". Same, yet here I am at age 48 and I can honestly say that I have never found an artist (or rather seven of them) who touched me this deep! 😅 I grew up in the 70s/80s, a time with some of the most iconic artists like Queen, MJ, Bon Jovi, Kylie and Whitney to name a few, but it was one of BTS's songs, Epiphany, that *literally* saved and changed my life.
As I dug deeper into their discography and personalities I learned just how incredibly talented and truly amazing human beings they all are. Their topics, lyricism, musical constructions, voices, dancing, personalities, friendship, background,....all of it is top tier.
They have an extremely diverse fandom of all ages, genders, nationalities, faiths, social and musical backgrounds,.... You can only build a fan base like that with substance and quality and they have it in spades. Heck, I've even become a card carrying fan club member for the first time in my life! 😂
So yeah, give them a legit chance and they will definitely surprise you over and over again. 😄👍

Sometimes I’m wrong when I dislike a song-third listen might suddenly gives enlightenment & I realize I was too fast to come to judgment. I wonder who listens to Radio now a days. I'm in the UK and the last time I listen to the Radio even here was months ago in the car while on the Motor way and I was waiting for the Traffic update due to the dreadful weather conditions that evening. Once I got that the radio went off again.
I know our radio stations play far bigger variety of music while most of the music on American Radio is 'paid for' by the artist company. While here in the UK if a artist song is play on our Radio the artist gets paid. We have very strict protections laws when it come's to artist copyright laws so a radio station cann't profit off an artist or their artist company.

One interpretation that i loved about this song and MV is that He's saying that he doesn't want to be a celebrity like fireworks : blowing up beautiful and grand but, as fireworks do, die as fast as one. He wants to be like wild flowers: grounded, and every time they die, a seed will be carried by the wind and a flower will grow again maybe on the same place or maybe in a different place... But this proces would be somehow forever. One shape of his art will die only for a new one to sprout.

RM loves nature actually grows flowers, loves hiking ,biking, historical site, he is a lover and collector of art, he loves reading and reads all kinds of books, more army’s have learn to love these things too. He is a poet with an IQ of 148 put that together and you get amazing song, he is the second most credited song writer in SK, Suga is the fifth most credit song writer RM , Suga and Jhope writes most of BTS songs in that order. I find it weird to call RM a "Popstar" - that is JK among them. RM is more of an Indie Hiphop artist. He was an underground rapper between ca. 13 - 16 when he beat older rappers simply by his intellect/wordplay.
That he succeeded like that is his connection to the other 6. They create incredible synergy with each other that catapulted them to superstar fame.
I don't think RM ever wanted to be "famous" - he wanted people to hear what he has to say. He is a poet that fell for Hiphop/Rap at about 12 or so.
    His greatest insiration is Nas.
"Indigo" is an archieve of his 20s - as he was born in 1994.
    I'm born in 1978.
I would never said I like Hiphop or "boybands" - but their sincerety and thoughtfullness holds me in thrall, I learn quiet a bit and changed how I look at the world.
(Youjeen is the lead singer of the Punkrock-band Cherry Filter and a legend in her own right - RM asked her for a feature as he likes her voice)
The connection is between "firework" and "flowerwork" that is in Korean spelling even closer.
Popstars are like firework: brilliant and fleeting - which is why RM is so strongly into art and admires it's longlivety. He wants something to stay - his art be longlived.
RM has songcredits for over 200 songs and even produced - even if not that much.
Our genius is known to visit museums all over the world and get their visitor numbers up - among other things - and has his own art collection that is quiet interesting. The artist he likes the most is Yun and he made a song titled after him.
He has also given a lot to charity - for preservation of cultural inheritance and Korean Arts books he gave to libariers among other things.
Radio seems a bit corrupt these days. Your chances of hearing them on the radio is also low - except maybe their English songs and well... let's leave it at that for now.
    💜

Radio is mostly a dying form of media. It’s so bad now that half the DJs you hear are in other states and record their talk breaks remotely. We have a station near us that has one employee. He programs the music in to the computers and that’s about it… and that’s a major FM station! 🤪💜

Their story is just as amazing as their music as well. I used to think they're industries plants but it was actually quite the opposite, the industry tried so hard to sabotage them, they're rebels and wasn't an overnight sensation, their continuous release of good music was unstoppable. The industry really hates them because they can't profit out of them because BTS succeeded without the industry's support so BTS doesn't owe them anything.

RM has a lot of heart and he internalises and analyses everything really well. I think you will enjoy the whole album Indigo. He started as Rap Monster, all angry and edgy and with a big chip on his shoulder but that was 10 years ago. His music evolved and continues to evolve. Indigo is chef's kiss. Every song is different and all of them make you think. 💜💜💜 As to "flowerwork" word, he explained himself that fireworks are fast burning and exciting, but he wants to be instead a flower in the field with petals drifting down with the wind, enduring and organic and steady. That's what all of them strive to do, make music and make sure their band of brothers will continue together for years, maybe not as big but more importantly doing what they love.

He can go har but also be soft and always touches our hearts with his messages. He started at BTS at 16 years old and Rap Monster was his stage name. He has a mix tape and feel songs you can see why he was called Rap Monster ( Monster, Joke , Do You and also has a lot other rappers collab in his songs). Main songwriter, composer, producer,! Rm is just the most beautiful soul and a amazing talented artist and unfortunately so underrated and the member that still after so many years people still trying to bring him down, twisting everything he says and receives so much hate. My pride would never let me stan a boyband with dancing handsome dudes but i admitted defeat midway because their artistry & their discography were self evident that they are the REAL DEAL.
What really sold me is that they never sold themselves as idols perfect human beings, they do vlogs & behind the scenes and Livestream with fans, i know celebrities could put up facades but you could definitely feel that they're genuine because they been doing those when they were young or even before they got famous.

He is a poet at heart and his lyrics touch the soul, the heart and.the brain. As the leader of BTS and the only one fluent in English, he's had a lot of weight on his shoulders navigating this ride to fame. He helped Jungkook with one that I love called, "Begin" - song JK wanted that paid tribute to his "brothers" in BTS that he says raised him and he is a combination of all of them. I'm 41 years old and RM's album Indigo was the most relatable piece of art I've experienced in years. I think it's because he, in his late 20s, is going through something similar to the mid-life crisis that people my age experience-achieving my ambitions (more modest than BTS) and questioning whether this is really the life I wanted, or even whether ambition is a good thing. And after decades of wanting to "make a name" for myself, now thinking maybe that's an empty dream and it's better to be nameless. Also, RM features other artists on almost every song of the album and most of them are artists over 40, which seems intentional.

Yep they are never really what you think they are. The boy’s truly do not hold back, which makes them so relatable. They aren’t afraid to show that they have struggles too, and that helps us connect with them. They can trash talk with the best of them ( cypers,) then sing a song that will comfort you when you really need to feel that someone, anyone, is there for you (Magic Shop) And I know that ARMY will always help out and leave comments to help direct you, as well as want some prep on the songs. I think it comes from how much we love the boys and really want new people love, understand, and appreciate them as much as we do. We want others to love who we love right? They went through a lot so ARMY can be overprotective… But this is your channel, and you run it how it works best for you. ARMY will never be short on giving out information, because it can really help. BTS is a huge rabbit hole, so that is why they recommend some background. And yep you may run into some who don’t like things, but again you run what works best for how you want to listen to the music. Respectful and honest is all that we ask. And don’t worry about length, ARMY will sit for as long as the video is lol. I am going to recommend one thing for you, even though it’s a bit long. Check out 2019 MMA performance it’s one of the best live performances out there ( my opinion). MMA is an awards show. It makes any Grammy performance look dull and incomplete. So they write from who they are, their perspective, and it’s honest. The Last by Agust D is a perfect example of honest lyrics. He touches on his struggles in such a way that you truly feel and connect with how he felt.

I love totally blind reactions, so don’t worry about that at all💜. I learned music through my parents and radio as well, so I totally get going into a band with no background or anything, and that’s how I approached my journey into BTS as well! And then, as I liked more of their music, I started looking more into the band and lyricism, which eventually turned me into a full-blown ARMY😁. If that’s how you wanna do it, then go for it, don’t let anyone tell you the “proper” way to explore BTS and kpop. Thank you for reaction! 💜

Dear, I don't think anybody wants you to watch a explanation video BEFORE listening to a song, we all go blind to new songs, and it's a big part of the pleasure ! But for some songs with particular deep layers of meanings, korean wordplays, korean cultural references and a lot of symbolism in the MV, if Armys suggest you to watch the explanation video AFTER your reaction to a song, please consider to follow their advice, even if it's just for yourself, it's worth it and you will be amazed. BTS are so different to any other music group I have ever listen to (and I'm 60 yo now ! ) Anyway, I enjoy all your reactions, keep going.

I'm sure others have already said it, but this is why RM chose to drop the Rap Monster name and goes by just RM now. He grew up, and realised that the name Rap Monster was weighing him down as he is so much more. He absolutely can hold that name, but as you see from this song he is so much more than that now. Instead of rapping haters under the table, he wants to be a sturdy/resilient wildflower that can withstand hardship, instead of a firework that makes a big bang then burns out in to nothing in a flash. Check his song Joke or Do You, to see the old Rap Monster.

This was another great reaction! Personally I agree with your way of going in 'blind' I always do the same myself. It's really important for me to go into new music with as few preconceptions as possible and just experience it in the moment. I also find with a lot of BTS songs it takes time for me to fully digest the lyrics, and I notice new things and find a new perspective each time I come back. I'm sure your comments are a bit overwhelming at the moment (we're a passionate bunch with a lot to say) but my best advice is to just take things at your own pace and don't worry!
Anyway it's fun to see you start to discover their range, and just how relatable their lyrics can be. Each of the members has a distinct style, but they all have range as well. RM can be aggressive when he wants to be, and Suga is known for making some of the most introspective tracks. That variety is part of the fun! Although they make a lot of music that's catchy or impressive, at the end of the day what makes me a fan are the songs which have a deeper more thoughtful message, and this magical kind of sincerity they manage to put across in the delivery that somehow makes you actually believe that *they* believe in what they're saying, and they're genuinely trying to communicate with their audience. There was a time when I felt like it wasn't even worth looking for sincerity in popular music, but BTS snuck up on me and got through the cracks in my cynicism. When I found them back in the day I was just casually listening to kpop for the kitsch, shallow fun and a bit of escapism, I never expected to find one of my favourite artists!
Nowadays they have all this success and this polished image, but back when I first found them they were really these scrappy kids living in a tiny apartment, filming themselves on a camcorder in their small studio, or sitting backstage with a notebook writing lyrics for the next album. I got to watch them grow, somehow, into the most popular band in the world, and see the ups and downs of how they've fought to maintain their identity throughout that process, while so many outsiders continued to assume they must be some kind of manufactured, soulless puppets based on labels like 'kpop', 'boyband' etc. They've written quite a lot about those judgements over the years, but I feel like 'Wildflower' is RM being at a point where he's beyond even caring about that, he's just focusing on who he is, who he wants to be, and trusting that the fans will get it.

Actually he used to call himself RAP MONSTER... His earliest mixtapes was very hard, edgy, dark and full of rage like a guy who have a lot to prove. But as their career progressed, his music changed as well. He doesn't want RM to be Rap Monster anymore but Real Me.
BTS used to be hard hip-hop sounding but later changed that into various genre because they've realized their potential and real hip-hop doesn't have to have the hip-hop aesthetic and sound.
Still spits bars ... Melodic rap in BTS music but hip-hop sounding in their mixtapes.
They're realized real rap is not about rapping fast, of course they've already proveb themselves that even if it was they would still win but real rap is about the pen game. RAP as in Rhythm & Poetry

He wants his feet on the ground while he makes his art. He is surrounded by purple flowers in the end, representing ARMY. Actually, 들꽃놀이(flowerwork) is the official title of this song in Korean.
In Korean, firework and flowerwork have same pronunciation except only one syllable. It's kind of word play. Perhaps you can imagine a scene where petals are flying in the sky like fireworks.
Oh FYI, the scene of fireworks flying in the sky at 2:50 in the music video is called Nakhwa Nori(a falling fire play), a traditional Korean fireworks that have been around since the 15th century. This is a firework that hangs a bag of charcoal powder from a long rope suspended in the air, lights it up, and flies it on the water like petals.
If you enjoyed Wild Flower, I highly recommend another title, Still Life. :)
INDIGO consists of 10 songs, and each song has a collaboration with a different great artist. (including Erykah Badu, Anderson Paak) I recommend you to listen to 10 songs in order. :)
There're detailed interviews about how RM made INDIGO. You can see how much he put himself into this album.

For me, the first time Youjeen's voice came in I stopped breathing. I love RM, and this cry of pain and yearning broke my heart.
He wants to create the quiet, everyday beauty of a field of wildflowers, less spectacular and longer lasting than the explosion of fireworks.
Yeah, it's about fame and distance from his everyday self, but it's also such a pure cry from the soul.
I want that life for him very badly. I want him to find a way to do what he loves - to make art that he loves - that lets him feel like he's lighting flowerworks.
I have a personal story that connects with your local fame story as well... I used to live in an area where I became known as a local activist and public speaker. After an event one day, a young person came up to me and told me that I was their hero. Their eyes were shining so brightly.
My first thought was "oh no, kid, get a better hero," but I managed not to say it. I smiled and asked them about themselves, what they're doing, said encouraging words. Had to honor the spark in their eyes. I think they went away feeling seen and respected.
But I walked away feeling the strangest, most uncomfortable mix of emotions. It's nice to be recognized, it's great to know people were inspired by what I said, but who the hell am I to be influencing young people? I'm nothing special, and having that admiration just felt weird. Like a pedestal I never asked for, in no way deserved, and was suddenly afraid to fall from.
It's hard to talk about without sounding like I'm bragging, or complaining about my success. I bet I could tell RM this story though, and he'd nod along.
