  • I brought an old, broken down army truck to a classic car show. Well, it wasn't broken when I started to drive it down. It broke down at the turn before the show, so we flat towed it into the show and parked it. I had a great time at the car show, but after the show I had to figure out how to get my 1952 REO M-35 back home. After cooling down, the truck started up, so I drove it back across the state line where we could pick it up with a dump truck and equipment trailer, then we loaded it on the trailer and brought it home.

While yer down there dropin' the pan ya may as well grab a hammer, a straight slot N some needle nose N go ahead N knock out yer freeze plugs since it's the bottom end that is gettin' the hottest, yer blockage is prolly round yer cylinders where rust N gunk likes to settle, ya know?
N freeze plugs R cheap N perty easy ta swap.....

I was also thinking that flushing it out with CLR might help dissolve the deposits, but if there's any other kind of metal in the coolant passageways, it could cause more problems. I know it probably won't react well to the head gasket. So I'll remove the freeze plugs and flush it with water and hope that's enough to solve the issue.

Well Calvin, it has been my experience that when the block passages are clogged to the point you start noticing overheating, flushing don't cut it.
What I ended up havin' to do was get somethin' bout a foot long that was both hard and yet still flexible, I think we all know what I'm talkin' bout here. ;-) that's right, a wire clothes hanger, (all y'all keep yer minds outta the gutter) and I had to poke N prod the stuff to break it up enuff to get it ta wash out. It was full half the way up the freeze plug, N ya know the passage way goes a bit further down below the bottom of the plug hole

I'm definitely going to try that, hopefully that solves the issue.
