    I had an Kephart made for me once to original spec, only the maker made it with modern materials (micarta scales & a kydex sheath). Still, the blade profile, shape & the shape of the handle were dead on O.G. and it felt great. I agree a hundred percent that the flat shape of the handle is much better for maneuvering & controlling the blade through work. One day I'll own one of Ethan's reproductions. I'm so glad an original Kephart fell in his hands and I for one am grateful to see someone hold true to the original design.

    Everyone says this is the most accurate version of the Kephart and such. And I get that he found an “original,” but if you read Kepharts book, he lays out the dimensions of the knife pretty clearly. One thing being the blade is no longer than 5 inches, and another is the width being no more than an inch.

    A lot of producers are trying to make catchy patterns. There is nothing like a good utilitarian blade shape. Nessmuk knew this as well. I own a fine copy of a nessmuk pattern and it functions well. My only other desire would be to try a yakut knife. I own puukkos and I love them. Utilitarian.

    I think the Mora Garberg is one of the Best Bushcraft knives ever made. That being said: Does this knife have a 90 degree spine for striking a Ferro Rod? And Why is it about $50 dollars more than a Mora Garberg? --- I did purchase this Ka-Bar Kephart Knife, I’m waiting to receive it.

    • @Seancmccormick
      @Seancmccormick Před 5 lety

      No it doesn't have a 90 degree spine. It's got kind of a relief edge that runs up both sides of the spine to the hilt. It does come with three uncommon things that most beckers don't come with. A tumble finish, walnut scales, and a leather sheath made in America. Whether that justifies the price or not well that's up to the individual. Just got mine. Handle scales are a little off but it's actually kind of impressive once you put it to use. atb Sean

      Mora Bushcraft Black is a better bushcraft knife.Both are hybrids Survival-Bushcraft.When it comes to Mora,the cheaper the better to be honest.There are many knives,to fit the roll of best bushcraft knife ever made.Lt Genesis. Bark River Aurora.Adventure Sworn.Jacklore,Ray Mears.Kephart knives etc I even like my Ka'bar Mark 1 better for bushcraft tasks than my Garberg.90 spine and batoning,keeps give into my nerves because imho it's a youtube creation,that have managed to make companies produce knives that perform really poor,in comparison to,before youtube era knives.. Ps if people really used their knives and where not simply youtube warrios,they would understand why all these handreds of years,knives didn't have 90 spines and where not 5 and 6 mil thick like they are axes...PS 2 this would be a decent kephart design, if it didn't have so slim handles and a bit thiner spine.Ethan says it is the closest to that Kephart he shows,but if you notice closely at 3:40 you can see the differences I'm talking about.Small details that make all together, make a huge difference to what is a good knife and what not.Cheers
