Hi pals! I'm back! This week I show you a quick, painless way to install zippers into your leather craft projects. The comment I hear the most is "zippers scare me." Don't let them, check this video out, and you will see they are easier than you think! This video includes a step by step on how to make a simple zip pouch. With your new found love and skill for zippers, you'll be able to apply the technique into all kinds of projects, from wallets, to purses.

@@dadhands another tech question. When you are making a fold, like in a folding coin holder what tool do you use to thin that out, like cutting a stitching groove

What thickness of leather do you suggest?
That’s a great question my dear friend! I made this one out of a 3-4 oz leather. I would suggest keeping it around 4-6 oz at the thickest for this size of pouch. Any thing too too thick will cut down the carrying capacity.
What was the block that you used when punching your stitch holes?

What size zippers would you use for a bag, pouch like this, or wallet?
As mentioned in the video, I used a Riri M8 for this project. It is quite large for it, but I personally like the aesthetic of it for this project, and it made it easier to see on the recording what I was doing 😊 Generally I tend to use their M6 size for most applications though. I only use Riri zippers, so I am not too sure how the sizing translates to other brands. If it’s of help, in Riri’s, the number corresponds to how wide the metal teeth are when closed, in mm.

My side snips are actually made by Channel Lock, but I do acknowledge that my miss-labeling could be confusing, thanks for pointing that out 😊
I am still scared of installing zippers. Although a little less scared. Eric (@ corterleather) has been trying to teach me for years. Q: Where did you get the wonderful stitching chisels? I have a guess that they are not yet released versions. Patiently waiting for them. Thank You!
I have had the extreme privilege of getting to test a set before they went into production. They should be available soon, and I can attest, are well worth the wait 😊
