Some cities will do that. But it is a slippery legal slope they play with. I myself a few times have forgot to put my placard up ( you are not suppose to drive with them hanging from the mirror anyways) and yes once i came out to an officer writing me a ticket. I was nice I asked what he was doing he told me I looked and went "oops " and i asked if i could grab it as it was in the visor. Once he saw i had it and that i also had my placard ID card for it he of course read me the riot act threaten to have me towed all that bullship. Well as he was rambling on and on my friend finally caught up with me and he was not to pleased with the officer and read him the riot act. My friend at the time was the city attorney and prosecutor so you can figure out how well that went for that young officer.

In our house we have a boy in a wheel chair. His mother needs the parking space, just in front of the door. Ever so often some jerk sees the free space...and parks there. The other residents have now com up with a way of dealing with that: We park our cars right behind, effectively boxing them in....and THEN we call the police. The cops take great pleasure in helping us - and writing out the 260 euro fine.

Karen, for what it's worth, you're lucky that you can use a scooter, since I presume that having to "scoot" all that extra distance isn't a physical burden on you. (Note that I'm not saying that you're "lucky" to be handicapped. Just lucky to have the option of using a scooter.) It really stinks when the handicapped person doesn't have a scooter and having to walk the extra distance would be a serious difficulty, if it's even possible for them. I'm also glad to see tickets being written on those who wrongly park in handicap spots.

None of that type of enforcement in my town. Upper Darby, Pa. The police here do not accept placards, valid or not. I had a handicap license plate on my van, handicap spot in front of my home. One day due to finances, had to sell my van. My mom had a placard and we'd use that. One day I see a ticket on her car. I called police as to why there is one issued to a handicap person legally parked. Reason: because people misuse them as on this video. I said what if I let a family or friends borrow it, and it's up to date? Answer: we only ticket the placards. I called the state and was said--"What's wrong with the police there?" I said it's corrupt here. Still had to pay for a ticket while being legally parked!! And I supported the police dept with a membership to statewide police dept. I stopped my support.

So when you go to your doctor you can get a prescription for one and go to the DMV and it's all free? People would rather cheat and pay lots of money on tickets instead of free. 🤔 imagine that.

Dude wrote a ticket on both cars without the permits expired. Sun bleached both the numbers out. But punches on one show its not expired. And the other car used a marker to highlight the date. Not change it. Neither one should of been ticketed

Lots, I know of two cases personally. But they’re also the placards of living relatives borrowed by family members who don’t need them.

If these thieves would think about how hard the lives of the handicapped are every single day, and what some have to go through to even get ready to go out or to work or shopping...then to have to deal with no open handicapped spaces, or the stripped areas taken with cars or shopping carts that they need to be able to get in and out of their handicapped vans...maybe the thieves would think twice.

People using handicap parking and placards in Tucson Arizona is out of control. I have two neighbors with placards and they are both health people in their early 40"s.
