I personally would've found it funny and fitting where after Thatcher said "You deserved better, Weaver. You really did," Ruth would pop in and say teasingly "What? Did you get a similar call?" Then she would sing.
The way I see it, there are two potential endings for this song. I'll write out a story for both of them here. Bad/Horrific Ending - Thatcher wrote his thousandth note professing his regrets and desperate desires for Ruth to come back to him. Obviously, none of them ever sparked a pleasant response. Instead, that smiling bastard in the corner just let its already inhumanly wide smile grow even larger. Thatcher, like usual, broke down as he began to conclude his note, but this time, as he read aloud what he wrote, a new voice rang out. Then another. And another. And one more. Oh, God, Thatcher thought to himself. The voices that rang out from the closet were all of the people he'd left behind, the people he left to die at the hands of the demons: Mark Heathcliff, Ruth Weaver, David Lee, and... himself? As "Ruth" spoke of its disappointment in Thatcher, the others followed suit: "YOU FUCKING BASTARD" from Heathcliff, "You left me behind" from Weaver, "Dead or alive, you're no use to these people" from himself, and "If you would have just given up already, maybe you could find peace as well" from Lee. Thatcher, somehow, cried even harder, as he pressed his standard issue pistol to his head. He knew that was what they wanted, but he couldn't fight it anymore. Click. Bang. Drop. Better/Encouraging End - Similar story as the bad ending: Thatcher weeps as he writes, but this time, he hears a voice ring out not from the closet, but from his right shoulder. A slight pressure on his left shoulder. Thatcher spun around to see who the intruder was, only to see Ruth. Except...she was human. Alive and well. She spoke encouraging words to Thatcher and held him as he wept, as he knew she'd leave him again. "It wasn't your fault, Thatcher," she said quietly as Thatcher's weeping began to fall to mere sniffling, "You did what any sane human would do in that situation. I can't hold that against you". As she spoke, the demon in the corner, for the first time in so long, fell silent, no longer taunting him. A cone of light appeared around Ruth, and they both knew: she had to return. The pair share one last tearful embrace as Ruth is gently pulled from the station. Thatcher, now more empowered than ever, walked past the demon in the closet, toward the sound of the voice of a young lady calling for him: "Mr. Davis? Are you here?"
I don’t know which ending I love more! I love both, but unfortunately the bad one is more likely in the actual series. I actually got chills reading both. Nice job!
