the story ✨ written by me :)
It’s the 80s. Hawkins is under the careful watch of Russian spies and the evil eye of the Vecna. Things have been quiet in town lately because everyone is on edge. But luckily, there’s your best friend Steve Harrington there to comfort you. You’re sitting in his car right now while it rains for the first time in the spring. Hawkins? Raining? Yep, something’s definitely wrong. You’re sitting in the back in the same blanket, but a few feet apart, trying to get some sleep. He’s turned the engine off so all you can hear is the rain…and Steve’s occasional singing.
“Just take those old records off the shelf,” he sings in a whisper. “I’ll sit and listen to them by myself.”
You nudge him with a pointy finger. “I’m trying to sleep.”
He frowns and lightly slaps himself. “Bad Steve.”
“You’re so full of shit.” you smile.
He’s happy you’re happy. He sits up a little. “Yeah, I may be a shitty boyfriend, but,” he touches the cold trunk window. It fogs around his finger. “It turns out, I’m a pretty damn good babysitter.”
You laugh, a mute one through the nose. “Don’t forget about me. I’m a horrible guardian, too.”
He raises a limp hand. “We both are.”
A beat passes. Scared, you ask, “Do you think we missed something? In the house?”
“The obvious things are not…what…people observe-or, don’t observe.”
You raise an eyebrow.
He turns and shakes his head, muttering. “Sherlock Holmes.”
“I’m just worried that because we missed an old journal or something, Vecna has regained his strength. I mean, he just needs the fourth right? And it’s probably still me.”
He scoots over to your side of the car and settles right next to you. You feel his warm body wrap around your cold one. “It’s gotta be me, alright? No complaints.”
You put your head on his shoulder. You hear him whisper quickly, “Love you, sorry.”
You know he’s right that he’d do anything for you, even sacrifice himself to the Vecna. But for now, you have him and you won’t let go. You only tighten your hold around his arm and let the slowness and quietness of the night take over. Your mind wanders and a smile forms on your face at one thought. “Sherlock Holmes?” you ask incredulously.
“Hm?”
“Have you ever seen a movie?”
“Uh, yes.”
“Which one?”
“The one with the DeLorean and Alex P. Keaton and he’s tryna bang his mom.”
“God,” you chuckle. “You’d never survive Mordor, would you?”
“What is Mordor?” you hear him whisper to himself.
You settle your head against his chest, you hear his heartbeat, and you can’t help but feel like nothing outside this car matters.
