- On February 3, 2023, a Norfolk Southern train carrying toxic chemicals derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, igniting a massive inferno which spewed poisonous chemicals in the air. In the days and weeks after, some residents who had evacuated wondered whether it would ever be safe enough to return to their homes. Nearly a year later, that sentiment remains along with anger pointed at the federal government and Norfolk Southern over what some see as an inadequate response. In this episode, we hear from affected residents and business owners about their uncertain futures.

Well done. The train that derailed came through here, Decatur, Illinois, the previous day. It had problems before it reached East Palestine.

I've seen the state of US rail tracks, you seem to suffer an higher proprtion of derailments than other countries. Here in the UK the tracks are in better condition, the trains generally travel at higher speeds and we have very few derailments. You need to sort out your rail system. Here in Europe we drive onto trains and travel to other countries, in the USA this would be a very effective way of travelling quickly and efficiently across multiple states, but your infostructure simply isn't up to it, your train companies are effectively losing money hand over fist!

My situations a bit different and i really dont know what to do or how to handle it to be honest. Im 55 yo and when this happened id unfortunatly found myself homeless for the 1st time in my life.Well im about 20 25 minutes from East Palistine and was sleeping in the woods in a small 1 man tent when it happened. Not thinking much of it watchin it on my phone and being put in the fresh air not couped up in s house real close. Anyhow the following days the wind had brought the smoke and acrid air from the burning over the area i was in and it settled in the woods almost like a fog for a day or two. Anyhow im dealing with nasal and chest problems that are new. Im not saying thats what its from just saying its something ive never had. Anyhow i dont know what to do and Just wanted to put my story put there in case someone has a bit of advice. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Peace ..
A long, long time ago while I was sitting stopped at a railroad crossing, I watched the end of the rail move up about 6 inches when the wheel passed forward of the end. The railroads are negligent in maintaining their systems. No wonder these derailments keep happening!!! 👎👎👎

Railroad company paid dewine to drop the regulations for reporting what is being brought through the state with hazardous materials. The railroad saved big bucks. Deregulation always ends up hurting the American people.

The problem isn't the EPA. The organization has an important purpose the problem in government is moneyed interest realize they can corrupt the systems to their benefit. One we need to take money out of politics. Two we need to make it transparent which judges rule in favor of those moneyed interests and where their income comes from then create laws to severely penalize those judges who are corrupt. Three, Fill the EPA with qualified people who have fidelity to the laws. And four, stop electing rightwing who want to break government for the benefit of themselves, and the rich which is basically the GOPs platform.
