    I get asked all the time, why do you prefer a truck over a van for work?? In this video I talk about it. For me its all about the driving experience. Service vehicles are personal preference.When I worked for other HVAC companies, I always had a work van and never really enjoyed working out of them. When I started my business, getting a service truck was a no brainer for me. Hope you enjoy the video, LET'S DO SOME WORK!!

    biggest thing is I don’t have to worry about my tools disappearing on me especially if there’s no windows on the van. I made a Packout wall, trash is easy to store when doing a changeout. And when you gotta go pee and there’s nowhere to go, the old Gatorade bottle in the van does the trick. 🤘🏻

    I can imagine that truck setup is perfect for installation work. I can't imagine doing service out of it though. Just too many parts and refrigerant bottles..recovery tanks...speciality instruments and tools. But that truck setup is bad ass.

    I’ve been in the business for about 18 years now total. I’ve had a full size Chevy Express van with shelving, a Ford Transit Connect with shelving, 3 trucks with camper tops and even tried a truck with a toolbox and I also have had the DECKED system. I just bought a new truck in June 2021 and it’s by far the best I have had and I take care of my stuff. It’s a 2021 Silverado 2500 HD Duramax 4x4 crew cab with a service body on it. I added System One ladder racks, 2 Weather Guard side boxes on top of the service body and a roll cover from Pace Edwards for the center area to keep my tools or whatever dry and secure. It’s by far the best and most convenient that I’ve had. People like different things but this is just what works for me.

    I dig the sleeper vibe you got going on. I will say they make covers that are security rated. Those soft ones can just be cut threw and then it’s a thief’s dream. Its really common for that to happen around here, but a good alarm system could be enough of a deterrent also.

    I need some Milwaukee pack out gear in my life haha. Your truck is essentially your office. I work out of a Long Wheel Base Transporter Van and I got a sealed cargo barrier to seal the drivers cabin. 7 speed automatic with bucket seats. I agree with you 100% when you said in this trade, you are in your car a lot! So it’s not just about how you like your tools setup. It’s also about how comfortable you are! Nice video man.

    Honestly I have both both a truck and a van for my company, I started working out of a van and I loved it. The room, the ability to haul everything to a job, etc. but once the winter hits that’s when I go to my truck. So long story short sometimes it doesn’t matter what I like to work out of, it’s up to the weather too. Great video tho and i enjoyed watching it.

    Man,I strongly disagree on this, worked out of my f-350 dually for about 4 years,long bed,full size cab, truck was real nice when I bought it,like yours is now, at first I was very careful with loading/unloading,tool and parts storage ect... after a while that all goes away and when your really busy and rushing around all day you tend to just throw things wherever and are more careless I guess. After not too long,my truck was trashed inside and out and I ended up having to take rear seats out to fit more tools/supplies ect, it got to the point where I knew I had a certain part or tool but had so much shit in back seat area that I couldn't find stuff,have to unload tons of stuff to try and find something, door panels all scratched and gouged up,carpet all stained and nasty,fuel oil soaked into the rhino liner on bed, I could go on and on, when I sold the truck I only got $12,500 for a truck I payed over 50k for back then, now with the price of trucks it would be even more painful. I ended up getting a transit and couldn't be happier, very easy to keep organized and maintained inside. That's my experience anyway for what it's worth.

      I agree, I'm gonna simply do aftersale service for two heatpump brands, no more instals etc.. I can have calls from cities or mountain countryside. That's what a truck suits well for me. Otherwise it's a terrible choice

      It’s all in how much you really care about your stuff. I had a 2015 truck that I purchased new with a LEER service topper. Drove the truck for nearly 4 years for service and installs. When I traded the truck off the exterior and interior was probably 8-9/10. Great shape but I’m very particular about my stuff. That’s just my experience so it can be done.

    • @AnchorSnake
      @AnchorSnake Před rokem

      Agreed. The only positive with a pickup truck setup like this is it's quieter and more comfortable than the van experience. Not saying you can't make the pickup option work, because the company I recently switched to has us in pickups. The previous company I worked at had us in Chevy and Transit vans. IMO the only vehicle better than a Chevy or Transit van would be one with a KUV service body with a mid roof. Nothing like having everything in its place, organized and easily accessible. Speed to what you need is key, digging for what you need is inefficient and aggravating. When your finished everything goes back into it's place and you roll out, ready to tackle the next job. Working out of a pickup requires a lot of "extra work" of digging for what you need and then reassembling the Tetris puzzle to get all your stuff back in the cab, well..thats if you care about being organized. I would lose my stuff having to un-roll a cover to look for what I need, I you should at least get a camper top with the doors in the side and pull-out bed sled. You can make an awesome setup with that, not as good as a van but better than a bed cover. End of the day do what suits you and what works for you.
      I found this channel looking for ideas on how to make my assigned pickup more organized and effective. Nice video and nice truck best of luck to you and your channel. Cheers!

    I have a decked system and a full depth tool box. Full depth tool box is key for the nitro tank and a B tank of acetylene. I have a roll up cover over the decked system which allows for more tools/ladder. What’s nice is when u have to grab a condenser or pallet ect it holds 2,000 pounds on too.

    I chose a truck with service body and lumber rack. Best decision. I always have my stuff no need to constantly pack and unpack things. Room for service parts. Back of the bed open for package units or other equipment. Load the dirt bikes in the back and have my tools for them too. Vans are noisy.

I just ordered a utility bed topper for it I’m hoping that that makes things a lot easier

  • @AREyouGraZzy
    @AREyouGraZzy Před 2 lety +2

    I chose a truck instead of a cargo van mainly for the flexibility it offered me. I have a camper top with racks and a cargo trailer if needed. I have seen the decked system on a camping trip and don’t know if I’m 100% sold on it. Seems a bit cumbersome and lots of wasted cargo space for a small amount of organization.
    Another main reason I chose a truck was so I could put my kids car seat in the rear cab. It all comes down to priorities.

When i started my recent job last october we ordered my 2500 ram crew cab, for the comfort and experience. I just drove jersey to maine in a transit van. i do that distance alot, 6 hours. My truck is FINALLY Hopefully a week away from getting delivered with the ARE commercial cap with barn doors. My pack out collection is giant. and im just now planing out my design. I chose to not get the bed slide..to me it wastes good space on both sides, and in general...plus i like climbing and crawling...its my exercise.

    I wanted a truck but a van made more sense for me. I don't do HVAC though. I'm an electrician. Lots of 10ft+ items. A couple guys I know doing their own thing recommended trucks. My only real complaints can be solved with snow tires for winter and a nice partition to isolate cargo noise from the cab. I have been on my own a few months. A truck would have been a headache.

    I dig the idea behind it. I too worked out of my personal truck. It was great until it wasn't. I've driven vans while working for someone else and it's much better. I started my own business and no longer use the personal truck for service. I use it to pull my 6x12 trailer on bigger jobs. For service calls I use my tacoma with a deep toolbox. Currently though I'm going sell my truck and trailer and going back to a promaster. I'm very organized, so I know I'll love it just as much as when I did it for other people. Good setup though.

    I’ve had an one man show hvac company for nine years. Always had a van when I worked for someone. When I went on my own I started with a 3/4 ton 8’ box truck with a spacekap. It was great since it was my only vehicle. I liked the comfort, towing ability and of course 4x4.
    The main con with doing service out of a pickup is alway climbing into the bed. It’s a lot higher off the ground than a van. Having no side door on a pickup is a con too. Everything has to be put in and accessed from the back. That sucks. If you need to get your torches or refrigerant but you have boxes of filters or an old condensing unit in the way. It gets old real quick.
    I have a van now and it is obviously the best for service. You can even put a gas pipe in it without have to strap it to a roof.
    The only way I would do a pickup service truck now is to have big heavy duty tool boxes running down the rails of the bed and then put some kind of roof across. Mostly everything you need should be accessible from outside the truck. Crawling up into it to get something is not an option lol.
    With the new all wheel drive transit out I might get that next. Best off both worlds. Get a good bulkhead to keep the noise down and you’re all set.
    Remember….don’t be afraid to charge the customer ;)

I got a rcsb which I run service out of and have a 14ft enclosed trailer for installs. Again, I do hvac on the side so it works for me, my customers have known me since I was 16. That being said, they will wait for me. If I were doing it full time, I'd have a 1 ton box truck packed with everything I'll ever need and I would still have my enclosed trailer.

    The only reason i'd get a truck is If I do a local heatpump specialized aftersale service, then work with one or two brands only. So you can ride everywhere with your comfy truck, cities, countryside etc..

Yes a van could also be broken into but not as easy as just lifting the vinyl top cover and taking the tools.

    Are you saving work van the only problem was is when you're working downtown in the city the parking garages are too low to pull your vehicle in to do some service calls and certain buildings so I went into a small vehicle like a four-door Jeep a 2019 it makes food parking garages and everything so always kept a little 4-ft ladder in the back and my tools in the back of my cans our Freon and everything I took out so I made it into like a work vehicle now the only problem I had was with the work bad is every time you drive down to the city and get into the big cities and the only parking areas usually in front of the areas always say is valet when you park there to valet people usually get upset cuz you're might be in a building for more than two to three hours and they get upset so buying a Jeep like that if I'm close to the facility area I usually go to the parking garage and then pay for it and then I reimburse it later on with the hotel or any type of big business I do a lot of rtus a lot of pills on cell phone right now looking into getting one and more employees so it'll be two of us we do mostly commercials no Russian dental cuz residential is is just way too much calls commercials it's just great so a 2019 Jeep four-door hardtop it's great to have you can get in and out park it in where you want from your house nobody doesn't realize you got their business basic I just got a little small front plate and my front of my bumper as my business name and that's it and my number that's all.
