- China has begun its biggest-ever military exercises in the seas around Taiwan.
Taiwan's defence ministry has said China has fired multiple ballistic missiles during a drill.
It comes after US politician Nancy Pelosi made a brief but controversial visit to Taiwan, which China regards as a breakaway province.
The drills are Beijing's main response, with Taiwan saying it amounts to a sea and air blockade.

The relationship is very complicated and is a continuation of the Chinese civil war. After the Second World War, the two parties in China clashed and a civil war broke out. However, the Kuomintang failed and retreated to Taiwan Island. They did not recognize each other as a legitimate regime. The Chinese mainland believes that Taiwan is China. A province wants to take back Taiwan, but Taiwan also believes that mainland China is an enemy-occupied area. Want to counterattack back. Until 1972 Taiwan represented the Chinese regime at the United Nations, then mainland China replaced Taiwan's seat at the United Nations, Taiwan lost China's legal representation, and its status at the United Nations changed from a state to a region.
To sum up, China's civil war is not over yet, but the two sides are in a state of temporary ceasefire

Ukraine is a sovereign country approved by UN but Taiwan is not a country but a region of China. 92 consensus declares that There is ONE China in the world, PRC government is the only legal government in China no mattet Republic of China or People's Republic of China! Taiwanese here. Pretty much everyone had already gotten used to China's empty threat now. In fact many tourists actually flocked to the nearest beach to watch those missile fireworks. Unfortunately we didn't see any missiles either because they landed too far away in the sea or they never launched.

Many commentators here are missing the point. The drill is about rehearsal. Opportunities to rehearse at this large scale doesn't come easy, and Pelosi just gave it to them. And for what? Share ego and unnecessary hand shake and pictures.
Wrong. The drill is about redirecting Chinese citizen's attention and frustration from the ongoing economic crap shit, plus their government's strong arm quarantine and zero positive policy which indirectly led to that result. Also, it serves as a ladder for them to step down since their serious threats made against Pelosi on the national TV, which includes shooting her airplane down, but nothing happened as Pelosi safely landed and the Chinese netizens are not too thrilled about it.
If China wanted to do any large scale drill, they could have done it anytime, and with Russia in tow as well. Pelosi didn't give them anything except a slap across the face, which says I don't care about your threat, and now you look bad infron't of your people.
PLA have been doing rehearsals for decades regularly long before any US diplomat visits. e.g. CCP re-build many look-alike Taiwan's government buildings, sea ports, airports, beaches and other landmarks back in Mainland for military training for invasion.
