I didn't use my apsara charcoal for like 6 months , and now only the soft one is used because the other two doesn't work
I brought apsara charcoal pencils and I just lost the money....coz it had some defects...it was very rough and was not able to smudge.

My experience.
Paper should have a little roughness (tooth textures) for charcoal pigment to settle down. I made a portrait on smooth chart paper using camlin charcoal pencils and they wont even work on it. I somehow managed to shade on the paper but it looked like a dark shade graphite pencil (it maybe due to pencil too because camlin charcoal pencils are not pure charcoal pencils) and it didn't blend well. So if you want to go for a smooth paper then make sure it has a little roughness to it.

@@rvmind2802 mine worked on normal writing paper and hard chart paper but they don't work on normal chart paper. It was my first attempt to make a big portrait that's why i opt for chart paper instead of expensive art papers. But looks like either i have to change my paper or the pencils themselves.
