I did that to my 268xp. Huge gains and its safer for your saw. Id rather 1 big hole for dirt to go through then 2 small holes. One hole plugs up and your saw blows up. Went from 1/4 turn out on H to 2 and 1/4 turns. Cheers
When I plugged my bypass on my 620pw (before going back and doing it "proper") I took some piano wire that was just past a slip fit, chucked it in a drill and sanded a gentle taper on the end, maybe 1/32" long, cut the piece about 1/16" long and tapped it into the hole. Was a nice tight fit but still loose enough that I was able to remove it with good pliers later when I out the OEM jet in the parts box. Super quick and easy method. Just thought that one might be handy to store in the memory box.
Sounds like a great plan. I was going to use a piece of brass filler rod and do the same, but figured I'd try this way first. Def gonna go back in and do a long term fix. 👍🏻 thanks for suggestion and may just have to try that out.
Sounds a lot stronger from the other day! The muffler mod helped, but it could use more. The carb has me stumped. Maybe a 372 or 395. Hard to tell. I want one of these for sure!
It's carb set up is just like a Stihl 361 but with an added choke. It's a tillotson HE, actual number I've found is HE-6A, but it's only available thru tillotson. If you add a pulse from the crankcase you could make alot of carbs work, with throttle rod and cover mods for adjusting of course.
I think a port job will help out quiet a bit. I'm trying ro figure out what tillotson carb this is modeled after, having trouble finding it tho. Can probably add a impulse from the case and swap to a 372xt or 395 carb. There's enough room in there for sure.
This thing definitely needs to be cut apart. There is a 2pc baffle in there and everything is brazed together, and I'm sure it won't be pretty 😆 Probably be best to just make a pipe muffler for it IMO.

Hate to hear, the 5800 is def the way to go if you ever do. Pretty much plug and play. Others require a bit of modification to make them useful.
