  • I got a CEL with code P229F and there was a lot of white smoke and strong ammonia smell. The CEL means one of the NOx sensors were bad so I decided to replace both front and back. After replacing the sensors they had to be re-calibrated. I tried an independent mechanic but their scanner could not do it. The local Mercedes-Benz dealer did a software update and also re-calibrated the sensors. They also said the car is reporting P205C so I have to replace the Adblue pre-heater. I will be replacing that soon.

    *** IMPORTANT***
    Hi everyone, their has been a re-call for all ML250 ECU SOFTWARE. Im in melbourne australia and we had limited kms remaining, dashboard also said ADBLUE and NOX sensor. The car ECU also locks out anyone from making any changes so both NOX sensors will need replacing for free to be able to do software update.We almost spend several thousand dollars at private mechanic, lucky we rang mercedes. All the best

      Hi Raz, do you have the info of the recall? my NOX sensors failed on my ML250 and after clearing codes, keep coming back. by the way did you get notified or did you just happen to call your MB dealers?

      Thanks Raz for this info. Had engine light come on and error p229f . Found this video and read the comments. Just had ours in to mercedes to have the ecu upgrade , new nox sensors go in next week , all under recall warranty by Mercedes. I had to ring and ask about the recall. 2k worth of work. 2015 ml 350 bluetec.

      @@blackadder2150 Hi Blackadder (legend of a show). I also have an 2015 ML350 BT but have never been advise by MB service centre of recall or offer for nox replacement. Do you have some details on the recall or which MB you use.

      @@lillabellaox Hi Lilla , no MB will not advise or contact you. If you are getting the error codes as mentioned (p229f) or you keep getting an engine light on which is very easy to get any mechanic to diagnose if you dont have the tools. I found out about the recall on an American mercedes forum. I then rang Mercedes in Hornsby and asked them about it, they asked me to bring the car in , they then agreed there was an issue and booked the car in 2 weeks later to do the work. Excellent customer service from them.

    Great video, Ken. Was the nox sensor by the cat noticeably dirty and full of soot or did it look normal? I currently have the same code with the CEL and have slightly increased fuel consumption but no other noticeable symptoms. The sensors are on backorder in the EU and while I await for new parts (was told upwards of a month), I was wondering if popping the probe out and soaking it in carbon cleaner overnight might do the trick.

      Hi, mine was just black, not covered in thick build up of carbon. I did try soaking overnight with a cleaner, it didn't help me though.

      hi, I am not sure what you mean. Use old circuit board new sensor? I wouldn't 😀
      the injector is further towards the front of the exhaust. go to partsouq.com enter your VIN and you get pretty good diagrams. good luck

      @@kenkanfix yeah I was referring to the circuit board :) Thank you for that site! My trouble codes state trouble communicating with each sensor...the the symptoms are the dreaded Adblue countdown (only 10 starts left, refill adblue) though when I filled it up, the countdown kept going, it's now at 0 starts remaining. I'm not sure what to do now.

    • @kenkanfix
      @kenkanfix  Před 3 lety

      Hi, no, the fuse is fine since adblue was still being delivered in the exhaust. The problem was the nox sensors were bad and too much adblue was being delivered into the exhaust.

      @@kenkanfix well i am asking coz i am having this problem right now. I was asked to change not specific one..but to buy 2 pcs actually as diagnostic can not specify if front Nox is bad or rear one is..which is pretty stupid isnt it. So basicly you thrash 1 potentionaly good Nox just to be sure.
