  • Gains & Games Ep. 20 - God of war/ Active Rest Day
    A pretty big controversial topic emerged on CZcams the other day when the creator of Kratos from God of War voiced his opinion on the direction of the protagonist. His opinion easily split the internet with some agreeing and others saying he is just being whiny.
    God of War is an incredibly popular IP and no matter what people decide to agree on, the series is a massive success.

    "Everyone says, 'Well, you should be harmless, virtuous, you shouldn’t do anyone any harm, you should sheath your competitive instinct. You shouldn’t try to win. You don’t want to be too aggressive. You don’t want to be too assertive.'

    No. Wrong. You should be a monster, an absolute monster, and then you should learn how to control it.⁣

    Kratos was a monster an absolute monster and then he learned how to control it and harness it for not just himself or his son or friends but for all the nine realms
    At some point he HAD to grow as a person he isn't the doomslayer fighting the endless hordes of hell
    he's a father a protecter and always has been his original reason for stepping on the path of a monster was to protect his people and his family
    And when he was made to kill them thats when he truly became a monster
    But he didn't have unending hordes to seek revenge against he just had the Olympians and when that was done he had no reason to continue being that same angry monster anymore and so he moved on and grew

      I disagree. In 2018 and Ragnarok. The major complaint I have, and now the creator himself has started to say it.
      They made him too soft. They shouldn't take your their own personal experiences and change the character. Leave as is!
      Let's say if they would've kept the vengeful spartan. I'm sure it would've been just as successful or more.
      Both games are good, but I refuse to buy into the, " Game of year". Kratos has now moved on blah blah. He's father now blah blah. Like what?
      Like David jaffe said, " Nobody cares".

      @RedMcCarl Před 5 měsíci +4

      @@mr.g4272 but why would he still be vengeful?
      What's his motivation?
      He'd already gotten his revenge and lost the one person he cared about in years (Pandora) in the process
      What reason would he have to still be angry at anyone other than himself?
      Would you have him bouncing from pantheon to pantheon and being angry without any real motivation just slaughtering them for no real reason?
      Kratos has always been a protective/vengeful husband/father character when you actually pay attention beyond the action of the gameplay to the story that was being told
      Could they have made a different game with a different story?
      sure but it would have been quickly become a soulless husk of random violence and brutality without reason or justification

    Honestly I don’t know why he feels that way, the majority of the community loves this Kratos and Kratos change in attitude makes sense. He had a reason to be angry in the previous games but now he doesn’t, he finally got his revenge and the ending of GoW3 showed that. Now I’m just tossing this out there but why didn’t he have any input in the new god of war?

      Yeah I think elaboration about where he WOULD like to see kratos would have helped his cause 100% lol I didnt even think about that haha

      @RedMcCarl Před 5 měsíci +1

      Also kratos was sad about Pandora dying to achieve said revenge and regretted her death without revenge and being guilty ridden over not just her death but also the destruction of Greece it makes sense he'd become the way he is

    Hey no matter what game in the end someone would want it different was it fun being a angry god killing and ripping apart gods yes … but the kids who grew up on it are most likely parents themselves and it’s great that they can still relate or even more so to their fav character

    Let the past be the past, i love this Kratos we have and just i think people are stuck in the past an tries to make it look better than what we have now when it is not the case for exemple people critise what part are not in the real norse mythologie but then when you bring that the older GOW had the same thing suddenly they become defensive because it is their precious past they can't fucking get out of their mind.

    I get it I do. I loved the angry kratos. I still want to see him fight titans and all that. I’m perfectly fine with some growth of kratos but it’s almost at this point where kratos is gonna become a pacifist or something. I don’t want to see pacifist kratos doing yoga like tyr. It’s the Norse pantheon bro.. I want to see brutality. I want see kratos give Atreus tough love and show him “some” ways of being a spartan. I want him to love Atreus for sure but also be the tough, pragmatic, stoic father he is. I’d kind of like it if he just likes fighting.. it’s cool!

      While it’s cool to see angry Kratos, for a character as complex as him even in the Greek trilogy, it would make sense that he would move down a peaceful path after the destroyed Greece

      To reply to both of you I think how they handled Kratos in the new series with his son is honestly perfection. We still get to see Kratos anger and strength. Its honestly a good message too. Controlling your anger and being a good example for your kid. But in the same breath... angry kratos is just bad ass in all regard. I think both answers are right. old kratos and new kratos are both META af.

      dude i love the new and wise kratos, really do and i like the direction they took with him. but honestly, i was hoping more brutality from him in ragnarok. i mean, heimdalls death was pretty much old kratos content, but bro i wish we got to see him idk punching boulders, lifting enormous things up. gow 2018 was perfect for me because we got demonstrations of his enormous strength, his brutality and also got to see his wise, calm and collected side.

    • @japs829
      @japs829 Před 5 měsíci

      i mean ofc he did all these things, they just felt smaller in comparison to him lifting and turning the whole fucking temple, slicing magnis face in half, lifting the biggest hammer in the world, defeating a fucking dragon. imo ragnarok is better than 2018 gow, but i prefer the 2018 kratos

      I think it’s a perspective thing too. He was live streaming and talking to his chat so he was also speaking to his people who understand where he’s coming from to an extent. But yeah overall, rough way to express his feelings about it

    I dont get why he hate the change... IT seem very on par with his character Kratos was emotional . It shows Growth, and the character actually learning from his past.

      Gow Series is a W no matter what direction you pick for Kratos, which speaks to the strength of that character imo. but glad we got a veteran God of War player in here!

    I don't blame him, Kratos is becoming too soft, his son is holding him back and annoying. They claim that the old Kratos is stronger just for marketing purposes. Young Kratos was much better and stronger which shows in the gameplay and enemies. Old Kratos takes 3 hits with full power to cut a tree! Old Kratos is weaker
