If a guy like that would work for me, I would fire him straight away, as this HGV is driving around with the name of the company, which is giving that company a very bad image, there is NO EXCUSE for this behavior, and even less for a "professional" driver.
That's a shocker for a vehicle that size.
And that huge junction is the worst place to be doing something like that.
yeah notice he vared into Mikey's lane with out indicating
Even more shocking was the pass on the junction exit, deliberate action towards you!
Definitely an intimidation tactic. Though Mikey didn't mention it.
@@atmywitsend1984 intentions were there, speed, cyclist, the road markings, all ignored by the driver, to fixate on the cyclist! Shocking, the MET should take action on both incidents.
This reminds me of a horrific story. It was actually featured on an episode of Traffic Cops back in 2009 or so. A bunch of cars had stopped in lane 1 for something. This lorry was coming down and the driver was messing around with this phone cab attached to the dashboard. Which he had actually took out of the holder. He didn’t see the cars had stopped until very late. Stepped on the brakes but it was too late. Ended up plowing into the back of a car and continued after car, after car. The car the lorry driver hit was a little Peugeot 205. Completely crushed the car on inpact and killed the driver instantly. It was a 23 year old woman. On her way to a new job when she was killed.
Luckily no one else was killed but the lorry driver got I think it was 6 years or something. Which for the family wasn’t be enough probably. And this is why it is really important not to use your phone while driving. ESP in a HGV or lorry
He looks to have come across into your lane pretty quickly after you caught him out ?
His mate's not bothered because he knows he gets to drive next time out.
😂😂
I do sometimes wonder how these phone drivers would react if they were made to sit on the bus with a bus driver that glances down at their phone every few minutes
Great point. But don't forget, these people are the best drivers they know. And they're still paying attention to the road. Not like everyone else. That's why it's safe to do it.
Above all, stay safe! Thank you for all your wonderful effort to keep people safe on the road!
Big green gaint nailed...
Excellent work ! We all appreciate your work.
Do I think he'd of kept on talking on his call whilst driving forward had mikey not been there? 100% YES!! Of course he would of!
PROFESSIONAL DRIVER 🙄🤡. GOOD CATCH MIKEY 👍🫡
Professional driver...would be Lewis Hamilton, these are delivery drivers, same as Deliveroo riders are not professional cyclists...😅
@@frajaralon IF YOU ARE PAID TO DO A JOB YOU ARE A PROFESSIONAL THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU ARE ANY GOOD JUST RECEIVING A FEE FOR A JOB OF WORK
If you check out Time Point 0.49, while waiting at the red lights, the lorry driver also has his hand up to his ear.
people do what they like and probably blame someone else when it goes wrong,i see this everyday
And his casual manner in doing so suggests that it wasn't the first time that he has answered a call whilst driving.
I saw it yesterday. HGV lorry holding his phone in plain sight resting against the steering wheel, also while moving. The passenger must have not given a crap either because it that was me I'd be nowhere near that driver. Things just don't change.
The punishment is not severe enough.
Great work Mikey 😊
Some just don't care once they are behind the wheel. A good report Mikey.
Looking forward to see the court case update on this one, bloody check of the guy, had a passenger that could of taken it too.
Well done great job.expose all these idiots who thinks are beyond the law..especially lgv hgv drivers but also same to car or motorcycles or cyclists,im a hgv driver myself, people not aware of the danger the use of mobile phone inntraffic could cause.thank you for doing this great work for the community and please leep doing it..
Wow Good catch, Mikey.
On the phone...while operating a few ton of machinery with blindspots...
2:07 if you hadn’t more or less stopped, you were getting an extremely threatening punishment pass there.
It's rhe fact its almost impossible to catch an hgv driver on there phone but ges got it to his bloody ear
These HGVs are dangerous, had one reverse towards Me over aa cycle path yesterday and a few weeks ago one drove right up My backside because He wanted to go left and couldn't wait 10 seconds for Me to cycle past. That one I almost had a punch up with because He come out giving Me gob.
its always handy to have a sturdy D-lock on your bike for situations like this "he attaked me officer and the D-lock was the first thing that came to my hand, I would like to press charges if he ever wakes up from the coma"
@@werhold i carry a red dye spray too to distract them before the D-lock comes , if somebody exits their vehicle and approaches me i would consider that an aggressive motion and i'm not going to sit around waiting to get clumped , all rules are now out of the window
Shut up u ain’t doing shit😂😂
You shouldn’t be cycling round London that fast Mikey 🤣🤣🤣
Mikey catching the don't cares who were made to care when the letter arrived.
Green lorry driver was actually on the phone from the previous set of lights 0:47
CyclingMikey should I think get at the very least an OBE for his road safety work.
Straightforward catch, that one. Deserves it too.
Well, that's good publicity for his company!
excellent Mikey. what a bellend driver
Shocking under any circumstances, but especially driving a commercial vehicle. Idiot!!! 🙄🙄🙄
Very sad individual
If this was a work call, the driver could have given the phone to his colleague to answer it or even if it was a personal call and he suspected it to be important or urgent.
His colleague may or could have requested to answer on his behalf for either scenario but the driver should not have answered it and did regardless.
No excuse for this behaviour, especially when you have a colleague present who can assist if necessary.
Blimey, you were brave cycling in front of those nutters.
If you look back at your footage. It looked like he was using the phone when you commented on the lady's rear light at the previous set of lights.
I think that was just his hand(s), IIRC. It does look a bit like a phone, but I think not.
Noticed how he drove to close to you to
I think the fine should be 200 if you been caught being in motion and talking and 100 for stationery version.
Depending how highly he is regarded in the Company and how big and well know it is i would think he also lost his job, a stupid decision by him to answer it considering what he was at the wheel of, but then he knew it, right place right rime, Mikey, and that was some super rapid peddling you got there too, might have to try that chat up line, " Thats a pretty bright rear light " very complimentary, anyway a good catch and a good spot in the mirror.
It's FAR too hard to pair with a hands free device though!
Yes ! and he probably continued using his phone after you were gone.
Just another sadwup, with their phone clutched in their hand
Talking, listening, knowing what they’re doing has been banned
Conversation on the phone’s distracting, that’s quite plain
Stop ‘em! or they’ll hurt someone!
Phone-driving’s just insane!
Is it the infamous Mike van earl
I need some of what Mikey is eating dude has got some serious cycle speed its like warp drive.
0:50 Mongolian flag? (referring to the design on the cyclist's pouch) The rear light looks like a Cateye. 300 lumen maybe. They make some decent bright rear cycle lights.
Not shocked at all. Unfortunately.
I know some people do not like what you doing but you are doing a good job in what up you doing
Great catch Mikey
Is fiddling around with your media console in your vehicle illegal? shocking!1!!
MIRRORS LOL
The HGV driver couldn’t get away from you, Mikey. Looks like you got another Fiat as well. Did you report him too?
The caption says this was yesterdays blue fiat driver... so I assume that meant a video released the day before this one.
And the way he swung into your lane afterwards like he didn’t care less if he hit you was also pretty shocking. Take care Mikey.
I had one where the HGV driver was steering with his left hand whilst scrolling with his right and pushing his thumb against the screen. I was walking at the time and caught it from a distance on my iPhone so it wasn’t 100% clear, even though I zoomed in on him and he can clearly be seen pushing his thumb against his phone, whilst driving a 10 tonne plus HGV.
My local police DET for Herts, Beds, and Cambs refused to take action though even after an appeal because I thought it was in the public interest to review it again. Sadly I lost the appeal as well and this driver got away with it. But I think drivers like this think they can get away with it because they higher up in their cab and away from cyclists with their cameras and other prying eyes/cameras. So a good catch Mikey even though it was very risky as shown by what that driver did afterwards.
Mikey, I've got a good HGV driver on the phone story to tell you. I was on my bike about a third of the way across a bike/pedestrian crossing (on green) The HGV driver was on his phone in one hand and a cigarette in the other. With an open map covering his steering wheel. His side window was open. I shouted 'Oi' he replied "fluck you fluck you" Tho only thing it wasn't fluck. Alas no Go Pro to record the evidence. He must have crossed on his red after a few seconds.
Did you see his company on the HGV? Report it
@bhoops13 I did, but in my emotional state, I soon forgot it. But generally speaking, I have little confidence that anything would have been done. As I assume that many calls drivers at work make are work related. Thus, it's their company or destination calling them.
Well done Mikey, Another one bites the dust….. hope his employer gets too see this footage and take action against this Killer in Waiting
7.5t at the most..
Only looks about ten years old haha
I never understadn why, when the police have such good video, they ask the registered keeper who was driving at the time. they should be asking the name of the person in the video so the registered keeper cannot say they dont know. They must know for the vehcile to be insured. If they say they dont know then the registered keper should be charged for allowing the vehicle to be driven by an uninsured person.
I think thats a 7.5 tonner
Yeah maybe, but the DVLA entry says 12 tonne revenue weight.
That's terrible driving. Bigger fine for that type of vehicle I think?
This is why you should never let them off with it. No emergency, no excuse.
He was chatting on the phone the firsat time you came accross him.
If he loses his job he has himself only to blame and finding a HGV employment I think game over and no employer is going to take risk with this driver.
To be fair, for what he'll be paid doing that job, he can probably stroll into any other £15 p/h non-driving job in warehousing or whatever around W London tomorrow.
If you're a grafter there's always a job for you.
@@andrewhamilton8954 Buf if banned , No evening drive thru to get snacks . No country drives with the kiddywinks and other half who is now driving for 2. .A burden upon all those around him.
@@andrewhamilton8954 May be he can change to different type of work but I think it would be a drop in pay.
@@EvenBigger-Brother And a fine to pay and if he wants to drive a car the insurance is going to cost more and could be very difficult to find a insurance company willing to take the risk because he was driving a HGV at the time he was caught.
If he gets enough points to warrant a ban he can cycle places... and help Mikey catch more dodgy drivers
Why are you up so high?
What are you riding, a Penny Farthing?
I was standing on my pedals. :)
Sadly, this is not at all shocking.
Please report this to their employer too, it's usually cause for dismissal.
I would expect that his employer already knows as the police issued a S172 notice asking the registered keeper of the vehicle to nominate the driver.
@@CyclingMikey I bet when he was taken into the company office it must have felt like the ground was about to swallow him up.
Tuffnells went out of business so he would have lost his job any way
@@lukerobinson6581 they got bought out at the end I thought
Anybody useing there phone wile in a car needs to lose there lisence for 12 months
Learn to spell ya bellend
Is it true to say that if a professional driver, as in an HGV driver is caught on the phone the fine and points increase ? I'm not too sure can anyone advise as I believe the courts / police frown on this as they look at what could have happened!
It'll be the standard 6 points & £200 fine in this case unless the driver contests it in court, in which case the magistrate can increase the fine & he'll have other costs on top - if found guilty.
On top of the standard penalty above, he'll likely receive an immediate 4 week licence suspension from the Traffic Commissioner but longer if he has previous for phone use.
Could keep his job & be put on other duties for 4 weeks. Just depends on how he's viewed by his employer. They might boot him. He might be temp agency staff. Who knows?
Either way, I doubt he'll lose any sleep over it other than the sting of the fine. Some middle class career types might think Mikey has ruined the guy. Reality is that if he gets the chop he'll be in a similar paying job tomorrow morning.
Would he lose his HGV license?
It was the phones fault
Some dork said it's Mikeys fault. You can't make this stuff up.
that lorry driver is a very bad man and must be punished severely. he should be sacked, and disqualified from ever driving a vehicle again.
Likely to lose his job on that one, careless so why should anyone care.
Silly lad
And he went through a red light at 2.30
I bet his boss would love to see this 😂
I bet his boss is just as bad.
In charge of a huge ki11ing machine and still he shows no responsibility for his obligations to road safety. This should always be a court summons and more than 6 points due to the vehicle IMO
Excellent work yet again Mikey 👍🏻🚲✊🏻
Another totally avoidable and very expensive life choice 😮
Also, a day in front of the traffic commissioner beckoning ✊🏻👌🏻👍🏻
Babling on about
Nice catch mickey
Send the information to the Area Traffic Office or Transport for London for the attention of the Traffic Commissioner.
He / She they will quite often take the HGV / PSV drivers vocational driving licence away for a couple of weeks
Keep up the good word
GG no Re
Nice one
Luckily, you were there.
I would have contacted the company @ the side of the lorry to report to his boss as well
You still can. Whats stopping you?
Why didn't his passenger answer the phone for him?
Safer and ultimately cheaper.
I hope he’s out of a job now
Besides the fine and points, these drives should have to spend time with an ambulance/police crew to visit an RTA and see what phone use at the wheel causes.
Send footage to his employer
You could do that. The email is on the truck, send them a link
You must be so proud of yourself, yet another person loses his job thanks to superman mickey. What a life you lead riding round on your little bike with its shopping basket on the front, prying into other peoples lives. Oh well onwards and upwards.
If the chap loses his job... he only has himself to blame. I drive for work, my phone rings...I ignore it. Simple. Besides, much better a potential bringer of doom is off the road rather than some innocent road user phone boy ploughs into. If one of your family got wiped out by this truck driver would you still be defending him?
Aw, did you get caught being naughty, too, pumpkin?
Ahhh, Mikey. Love yer to bitz and support everything you do but, really - “That’s a very bright rear light”.
Come on mate, you have to improve your chat up lines.
All the best mate and you take care.
Bwaaahahaa fair enough. I was just being a light geek, not wanting to chat her up. I'd have said much the same to a guy. :)
He's 100% lost his job as tuffnells went under. Surprised they managed to track the driver tho cos who would have the police contacted in order to trace the driver back to the vehicle 🤔
0:53 - I absolutely cannot stand it when I'm cycling behind or towards other cyclists with overly bright lights. It's dangerous and impairs the vision of other road uses. I presume you meant it in that context, yet she seemed to think it was a compliment. It's as annoying as when people drive with high-beams or rear fog lights on.
Fine for the HGV/PCV drivers can be 10x or up to £2500, so this will be a hefty one.
GG no RE 😂
Yeah, that particularly BAD . . . . . If it was important the 'bored' guy next to him could have taken it
Throw the book at him - that could have some pedestrian, or cyclist under the wheels, so easily!
mike stop being a nob and get a life, i will pay for any rehab sessions if u need it, im more than willing to help, please get in contact if you are suffering from any past traumas
Who is sad and suffering trauma? You're sad and you're bedwetting over traffic offences. You're crying salty tears because bad driving is being caught and punished. You're salty because you identify with criminal drivers.
Your reaction tells me that you're worried about being caught by other camera cyclists and drivers.
Tens of thousands of cyclists run video cameras and will report bad driving around them. From now on you'll remember this conversation every time you see cyclists on the road, and you'll think about some of us filming you. Some of our cameras are very easy to see, like GoPros, and some are nearly impossible to spot. Have fun looking for cyclists' cameras on the road.
I'm not even in the top ten most prolific reporters in London.
In 2022 almost 15,000 reports were made by the public that resulted in the Met issuing a notice of intended prosecution. This is in London alone. I did only 383 of those.
I suggest you drive properly around us all. Feel paranoid. Google your own number plates. Regularly.
@@CyclingMikey seriously im than willing to pay for your therapy, i have heard your dad has past away from this so if you need help from past traumas im more than willing to help, im just offering act of kindness dont hesitate to get in contact matey 😂
@@CyclingMikey also didn’t ask for statistics, theres the internet for that, and next time if u get triggered dont write essays cos it shows that u cant control ur anger son xx
😂😂😂😂😂
@@alipbdkYou watched a video wanting to be triggered... what does that say about you. And you might not care for statisitics but one day one of your family members might become a statistic due to the actions of a driver like this. You can proudly stand at the funeral and tell everyone it's fine. You can even buy the driver a pint and become buddies. That'll be nice for you.
Snitching is snitching End OFF
Criminal is criminal End OFF
Nobody likes a tattletale
Gotta give it to him though, it's incredibly difficult to drive work vehicles and not answer phone calls. I know from experience that employers almost expect that of you. It's the drivers responsibility, but a lot of times their jobs rely on answering phone calls. I wish more companies invested some pocket change into installing hands-free alternatives in cars, but most don't give a shit.
Then he should've bought one and installed it himself, at very little cost. NO excuses, esp driving a HGV
It really isn't. I drive a company car and have a work phone. I ignore it and pick up voicemails later. If my boss wants to discuss that he's the one getting sacked as company policy is very clear. Even before the policy though I had the same standards - to me somebody elses life is more important than a phone call.
Forget the six points. He should lose his license and have to retrain.
Its bad enough car drivers but a pro driver should have known better with the extra training needed to take charge of a HGV and the sheer weight of that HGV is deadly.
