    Couldn't care less about the audio issues tbh. For me, it doesn't take away from the good content. Whatever works for you, and makes your life easier. I've said it before and I'll say it again, seeing the cycles of stuff on the farm, grass into cow, cow into slurry, slurry onto grass, it seriously interesting and great stuff.

    It has been decades since I have visited a dairy farm or worked with cow poo, yet when I see this operation the smell is alive and well in my head. It takes a lot of soap to get rid of the smell.

    Sewing a lot of white clover will make up some of that slurry shortfall I reckon. It's truly remarkable how much nitrogen they can fix per acre.

      Can't sow clover and make money. Cost of seeds way too high. Clover plants would take up the space that the grass would grow. Not comparable harvastable mass. They still have to empty the slurry bin. The poo has to go somewhere so more poo can be added. Legumes/clover do make a lot of N but just not practical or economical for this application.

      Did not mean for it to sound so authorative. Was just light heartedly stating a few facts. No matter what side of the pond you live, facts of farming present multiple dilemmas and options and obstacles to producing a product at a profit. Hardest job on earth. Grew up on a farm. Have been a landscape designer/consultant/gardener in big city for 41 years. Have little farmette in country. Neighbors are cows and farmers. Recently discussed fertilizer/nitrogen cost issue/options with neighbor.

    Hi Tom! That was an entertaining video! You seem to do a really great job in soil management.. sustainable farming as much as you can! I can’t imagine what it smells like though. 🤣. Dirty jobs but somebody’s gotta do it! 👍

    It is amazing how something as simple as the dribble bar and some bubles make the slurry that much better. Will be really interesting as time moves on how much of a difference there is in your 'til expenditure. I know with the prices always going up it will be reflected more in the amount and not the cost, but still...every little bit.

    Glad to see that you are no longer overlapping with your slurry dribble bar. It's pretty much a precission tool, so there is little point in doubling application in strips.

    These vacuum tankers seem popular around you with manual hoses.
    I never see anyone like that. Hydraulically driven pump crane with screw or centrifugal pump for unloading is like a vacuum tanker is for you.

    In the calf shed, and pit, wash it out using a big pressure hose, the water will help 'loosen' the chunky stuff at the bottom of the pit and you get more slurry.

    it may be a good idea to extend your slurry system to include the calf pen area. If it is compatible with the plans you did not yet disclose to us :)

    I have just been to Dumfries and Galloway for a few days which you will know is big dairy country and they are well into their silage season with many huge fields cut and everyone out tanking like mad with dribble bars and umbilical systems. fascinating to watch.

    Some sheep farmers are getting mics that attach to their clothes. It's great you can hear the person better even with noise in the background. You do have to take it off when you talk to someone unless they talk loud or are close to you

    With cows in paddock have you thought of using a topper or harrows to break up the cow paddies? as they do help the grass but also hurt it as there not spread about and a slitter to help air the grass.

    Tom the best way to get that thick stuff out is to fill up a tanker with water and use a 2 inch pipe to wash it down trough the slats then stuck it out and flush it in again

    On Drews farming vlog they have I believe similar tanks and use a pto driven paddle/ agitator affair which does not appear to require a too large of a tractor and works well.

    Humic acid is a wonderful thing for soil, I wish I could send you enough to spray a field to test on. I wouldn't want to pay VAT on that though. Root development would increase significantly, letting your grass get thicker and taller.

      Is there not panels on One of the other buildings near the farm shop sure I saw some in one of the vids. They only really make economic sense if you are using the electric they produce if at least a good proportion of it. Again it’s all money money money.

    How about trying a long aerating lance hooked up to a road breaker compressor as a way of mixing the slurry in your difficult pit? Just a thought

    One of our local dairy farmers likes to use a dribble bar on his grazing ground and a splash plate on silage ground it makes better cutting grass

      any slurry covering the grass blades will hinder the growth, so dribble bar rules every time.

    Would it maybe be possible to extend the bubbler system in the large silo with one or two extra "zones" and place those in the "bad" tank so they get stirred in rotation with the large tank?
    PS: at 17:05 it looks like the far left pipe on the dribble bar is blocked in case you hadn't noticed Tom ;)

    These our subjections , I though would help out. You need to invest in another big manure tank spreader but keep the own you have as well . So you should have two people spreading liquid manure instead of one person doing it all . The field’s should have field tile tubes to get rid of water.
