    This is the first time I have watched one of your videos and I learned so so much about color. It has always held me back which is why I have always bought precuts. this is the first time i understood what to look for in colors. some people are just gifted when coordinating colors. I am not. But after your video I know i will become better. It is frustrating to love fabric and colors but don’t know how to make them shine and pair well. Again thanks so much I am going to save this video for future reference. Your enthusiasm is contagious

      Yay, that makes me happy to hear. You definitely know more about color that you realize. Think about when you're shopping for a new top or dress, you know exactly what you like. You just need to get used to seeing fabric in small pieces rather than getting overwhelmed by an entire bolt on the shelf. Simply get up close and see what you like best. There are probably some of your favorite colors or patterns and designs included. Once you realize some basics about working with lots of color your confidence will increase. Your on the right track! That's a wonderful idea, taking the standard nine patch and creating so many different options! I love that! However, Im wondering if you could make a video using the standard nine patch, but cutting it on the diagonal? Would that work, or would it mess up the seams? I'd love to see what you come up with! You have a great talent for using colour and contrast in such wonderful ways to create interest in your quilts, and yet they're still calming and pleasing to the eyes... that's not always easy when making scrappy quilts! 😊

    Love the ideas, unfortunately, my brain doesn't work like this. When I do a quilt from scrap fabrics, I just make the quilt. I can't do patterns. But I have some really nice quilts. They are not show quilts by any means. They are created to keep us warm. They are pretty to me and serve their purpose.

    • @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
      @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise Před 3 měsíci

      Totally understandable, Kimberly! Scrappy quilts are actually new to me as I rarely had small scraps as I use lots of big blocks. Then finally I piled some bits and pieces together and started sewing them into long strips. When those strips were then sewn together it looked awesome. Patterns certainly aren't a requirement. It's actually more fun to come up with your own method that you enjoy. Kudos for finding what works for you! What's important is that you're creating beautiful quilts!! Thanks so much for following along. Happy Quilting,

    I was making a Disappearing 9-patch starting with 7" squares in shades of blues to blacks with stars and galaxy prints. I ended up making all the blocks with white sashing between the squares, cutting them in to quarters, but then I mixed ALL of the pieces, making sure no two patterns touched, instead of sewing the original 4 back together. So all the blocks in the 85" square quilt are different. I wish I could send you a picture. It came out great.

      I'm a Fat Quarter collector, Mary! These are all cut from fat quarters I've used in previous quilts. Using fat quarters lets me have lots of fabrics to use at once instead of buying yardage. Instead of using one yard of red fabric, I'll use 4 red fat quarters and mix it up. I've been doing this for years so I have quite a variety of pieces. Thanks so much for watching! Happy Quilting,

    • @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise

      Chain stitching and pressing as I go really help me keep everything together, Diann. The chain stitching keeps the blocks in place while I press the first seams. Then the last two seams fall right in place as long as the first seams are pressed in opposite directions. Then when the block is cut and re-pieced you should be okay. Hope this helps! Thanks so much for watching!! Happy Quilting,
      Lea Louise

      I rarely know in advance where I’ll be placing things. Since I don’t stitch in the ditch when quilting, I just press everything open. I do need to be more careful when seams meet but that hasn’t been a problem so far!

    In the last design you showed, if you sew the big block in the middle to the two sides how can the top and bottom fit? Just a beginner here sorry 😊

      I also have sewn together fat quarters to make a 9 patch and just kept cutting the blocks left over the same until they were the size I wanted. That was fun! Ty for more inspiration ❤

      Looking at the cut pieces can be deceiving. As long as the two small strips are sewn on first, the long strips will fit from edge to edge. It's like putting a puzzle together. 😊 Thanks so much for watching! Happy Quilting,

      You are correct msjamie. The top and bottom will hang off 1/2 inch on each side and need to be trimmed. Line them up matching the seams of the center block. This is because there are two more seams in the piece they are being attached to.

      My machine is a 2002 Husqvarna Designer II which was made for quilting. It's been great for all these years though I may be looking for a new one sooner than later. Thanks so much for watching! Happy Quilting,

      I know you didn't ask me but i have a juki hzl-dx7 sewing and quilting machine and i absolutely love it. I only wish it had a larger throat area. It's 8 inches but i do 100in by 100 quilts so I'd eventually like more room. I also would like the larger bobbin option. Those are my only wishes of having something different. @Tlea064

    I need to understand your chaining. I get the 3sers of the 3 in a row but at that point in your video you show the rows basically brought together with a tacking at each end of the middle square. Is that for lesson purpose? If not,why don’t you just sew the rows together? Not questioning your teaching etc just trying to understand.

      Take a look at this point czcams.com/video/t75jugW0LoY/video.html in the video, Sherry. I think this is what you're referring to.
      First I sew two squares together but don't cut the threads at the end.
      Then I place the next two squares in my machine and continue sewing the next two leaving about 1/4-inch. Those thread hold these two sewn blocks with the first two. That's how I chainstitch.
      Next I do the same with the third pair of squares.
      With three rows of two squares chainstitched, I cut the only the last threads to remove what I've sewn together.
      At that point I return to the top sewn pair and sew the third square to the end. Without cutting any threads, I continue the same for the last two rows.
      This gives me three rows or three blocks that are sewn together and are also joined by the chainstitching. The advantage is that the rows will already be in place and ready to sew. Joining the squares this way is also know as 'webbing' or web stitching' by some quilters.
      Chainstitching is a time saver so you sew quickly without always stopping to cut thread. That means it also saves thread .
      I hope I answered your question. Thanks so much for watching! Happy Quilting,

      I was thinking the same thing, cutting on the diagonals in a big “X”. Also cutting on parallel 45 degrees for 1/2 square triangles. Hmmmm!

    What do you do with all your quilts?

    • @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
      @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise Před 3 měsíci +1

      Good question, Margaret! Needless to say, my family has plenty of quilts to curl up in. 😊 I donate lots of baby quilts to local shelters and recently contacted Project Linus about their donated quilts to children's hospitals. My goal is to find where they are needed. Many years ago I used to sell a few quilts at local fairs but most people don't realize the actual value. So I'd rather give them to a good cause. Besides it makes me very happy to be able to donate them. Sure appreciate you following along! Happy Quilting,
