    [Lyrics]
I'm an educated fool so I don't know what it is I'm supposed to do
About this awkward situation that's been thrust right down upon me
As I'm walking down into on my own into the valley of life
Got a lifetime of experience yeah I've got so much to give
Open the page at chapter one could this just be that life's just begun
Forever within your darker thoughts reflecting on everything you've been taught
Never felt this way before, seems that somebody's just opened the door
To the book of life... or is it death? is there ever any way out
Someone's looking down on me to the very inner core of my soul
They won't tell me what they see but I really want to know
I want to live my life on my own, I want to lift the unturned stone
I want to walk right into the fire, I want to live out all my desires
I want to go and see the fire burn, I want to see and feel my world turn
I want to know what more there's to learn, I want to pass the point of no return
Do you really want to be just another statistic or feel
That you really should aspire, that you really do deserve more
Do you ever really feel that you have so much potential inside
What you really have to give could be realised so much more
I want to live my life on my own, I want to lift the unturned stone
I want to walk right into the fire, I want to live out all my desires
I want to go and see the fire burn, I want to see and feel my world turn
I want to know what more there's to learn, I want to pass the point of no return
Time will flow, and I will follow
Time will go, but I will follow
Time will flow, and I will follow
Time will go, but I will follow
I want to feel what life's like respond, I want to meet my father beyond
I want to walk right into the light, I want to feel no fear but delight
I want to live my life on my own, I want to lift the unturned stone
I want to walk right into the fire, I want to live out all my desires
Time will flow, and I will follow
Time will go, but I will follow
Time will flow, and I will follow
Time will go, but I will follow
    The educated fool...
    ..................................
'The Educated Fool' is a song from Iron Maiden's album ''Virtual XI '',released in 1998.
''This started from the guitar melody line that you hear at the beginning and it fitted really well with a couple of other ideas that I had at the time. It turned out very strong and is one of Blaze's favourites on the album. ''(Steve Harris)
'The Educated Fool' is about the deep and introspective mid-life realisation that most people eventually reach, where they begin to realise that their education and ideals are not really relevant to what is important in life. But the song also seems to be a statement of hope, to put these things into a proper perspective and face the ultimate meaning of life (whatever that might be) head-on.
This is also the first song where Steve Harris's father is mentioned ("I want to meet my father beyond"), as he had recently passed away. The other song that mentions Steve's father is 'Blood Brothers' ("Just for a second a glimpse of my father I see"), yet another life-questioning song, although on a more general level.
Musically this is an excellent song, with powerful emotion, some great vocal harmonies, and classic Maiden riffage. Definitely this is one of the best songs on the album.
'Virtual XI' (pronounced: Virtual Eleven) is the 11th studio album by British heavy metal band Iron Maiden. The album was released on March 23, 1998. It was the second and final Iron Maiden album recorded with vocalist Blaze Bayley. The album is slightly unusual in the Iron Maiden catalogue for its extensive keyboard use. For this album all the keyboard parts were performed by bandfounder / bassist Steve Harris whereas on previous albums the keyboard parts were handled by session musician Michael Kenney. The album also had a reduced songwriting input from Janick Gers compared to the previous Iron Maiden albums since he joined the band in 1990.
Just like the tour of The X Factor album, the tour for this album was cut short when Bayley suffered from an allergic reaction caused by certain elements used on the stage.

I LOVE every second...To me this will ALWAYS be their Golden Era, the melancholic melodic tunes, the deep cutting lyrics, brilliant guitar harmonies, phrasing, riffs and solos, and the dark, intense voice of Blaze turns them into haunting Golden Gems...the X-Factor is a Masterpiece and Virtual XI not so far behind.....BRAVO MAIDEN and BLAZE !!

All the people who is just yelling how "out of tune" Blaze is in this song, should put a little more attention: the "out of tune" voice you are complaining about it's, actually, Steve Harris' backing vocals: Blaze is doing the low harmonies, and it fits perfectly with his baritone register...
It's been 17 years since Blaze left, and gave us two wonderful underrated albums that most of the fans didn't actually hear again with an open mind... so enough with your narrow-minded bullshit spreaded in every Blaze-era videos: Blaze Bayley is an amazing vocalist, an amazing composer and amazing musician overall

The truth is; Blaze had been singing out of tune with Maiden a LOT, more so on the "X Factour" than this one, probably. - He would tend to go horribly sharp, I even heard him do it in the studio with behind the scenes recordings, and this was NOT the case on the final albums. - It's also not the case here, and Steve is actually on the notes as well, so that's not even an argument.
But again, Blaze HAD been singing out of tune on other recordings. - He has become a FAR better vocalist over the years, though. I urge everyone to check out his acoustic covers with Thomas Zwijsen. - Also, I love Virtual XI, but I dislike most of X Factor (only like about 3-4 tracks of that).

I've always thought that Virtual XI and The X-Factor are home to some of Iron Maiden's greatest songs, and that Blaze Bayley is just as great a singer as Dickinson and Di'anno, but live.... Blaze just isn't the natural-born leader of men that Bruce is.
In shows like Death on the Road and Rock in Rio, Bruce Dickinson's voice carries this power that simply can't be replicated. I think he is the main reason why Iron Maiden is one of the very few bands that is BETTER live than in the studio.

+David Fellner There are great songs on both albums, but Blaze never fit. Not to say he's not a good singer; he's great on his solo stuff. But Harris tried to make him Bruce 2.0 on these albums and Blaze, being a low baritone, was never built for that.

Saw that tour when they came to Brazil (rainy night in São Paulo). Didn't like it then, and continue to not like it now. For the record, the X-Factour show in Brazil with Blaze was superb, this is just sad, not just Blaze...whole band kind of struggle.

Man, yall who shitted extra hard on Blaze era were insane back in the day, yeah Blaze range doesn't come close to Bruce but the melodic factor was turned to eleven in the instrumental and compostion areas

The body of work on the 2 albums with blaze (including Virus) are great peices of music.. I think Maiden became more of a progress band, 7th son was just the tip of the iceberg as far the experimentation into the prog sound.. listen to A song like this track or even 2 Am, then listen to Infinite Dreams, then listen to Dream of mirrors & Lord of light.. & yes their different songs from A different era with Bruce but it's still got that prog rock sound. (At least in my opinion) The band has grown so much since 1976! Up the Irons!!!!!

I think had Bruce had been on Virtural 11 the album would of been much stronger. With adrian added and the procuction made just a bit more heavier we could of had a solid record, not as good as BNW but more on the lines of Dance of Death quality. Although the songs would have to change a bit and the order.
1.Futureal (obviously different lyrics cause blaze wrote them but good song. Probably a new name too?)
2.Virus (should of been on the album instead of AATG)
3.Lightning strikes twice (Maybe some added work)
4.The Clansman (Perfect, especially with Bruce)
5.When two worlds colide (Interesting instumentaly, Blaze lyrics so new name and new lyrics)
6.The educated fool (filler track , not bad but maybe some new verses to suit Bruce's high tone)
      7.?
      8.?
Maybe some more tracks but 8 is fine.
Dont look to the eyes of strangers probably would be too low and cheesy for bruce and Como estas amigos (written by Blaze) probably would't exist if Bruce had been on board and Angel and the Gambler.....eh no.

@@ScorpionMaster1224 WOW, you just said you would change all of it....just to fit the voice of Bruce ?? Tell me one thing, don´t you think the band would have changed their tuning to fit the voice of Blaze.......because HE was the singer during this period. Even if you love Bruce, you must be able to accept the singer at the time, if not, why ??? I love the voice of Bruce, but I will never ever say he is the ONLY voice that counts.......I´m sorry but to me that would be a major mistake.....

Great song. But that is something with the chorus that Always make me think twice before I listen to it.In fact, if there is something wrong with the Virtual XI album are the chorus of Angel and The Gambler, Lightning Strikes Twice and the Educated Fool and. Don't look to the eyes of s Stranger really doesn't need to sing that for infinite times.

I saw Maiden in '98 with Blaze and in '99 with Bruce on the Ed Hunter Tour... both in Ahoy Rotterdam. Pretty sure Blaze was awful on Bruce's songs except for "afraid to shoot strangers.. he couldnt not perform the classics live (i think that was just part of the reason he was sacked) The educated fool was a solid song on the virtual X1 album... but if you listen what bruce did with the chemical wedding: this album blows virtual out of the water! Thank god he returned !

@TheSuperDeathemperor Blaze is a great vocalist in his soloalbums, you should try to listen to them, search for "Blaze - Stare at the Sun". All the Maiden songs is to high for his vocal range though, so that's why he sounds out of tune.

  • @damirsarazhakov6724

Also, maybe there is a problem with vocal monitors, or he just walk away from them, look at his right hand at the end of first two "i want to live my life on my own" parts, I think that he just can't hear himself, and use his hand to help, it's a big problem for singer...

Saw Maiden on this tour. As much as I love The X Factor and the stuff Blaze has done since leaving the band, that night haunts me to this day. Maiden couldn't sell out a leisure centre in Newport, Blaze could not manage the crowd, the singing was not good on the stuff written for Blaze, let alone Paul or Bruce and the 4 piece Eddie that appears during the Iron Maiden song was set up wrong so the head and jaw inflated in the wrong place leading to roadies running on stage kicking the jaw into place. Pure Spinal Tap. Shame really, like I said, I love the stuff Blaze did before and after this album/tour..
