    Hi Larry - thank you so much for your videos which I am happy to have just discovered - and I need more help please! As you mentioned, I am someone who made numerous Audiences instead of numerous groups, segments or tabs and so have been paying much more than I should be :-( I am now trying to mend my ways. My main question is: can I add a tab as a means to label each participant of each audience before merging those audiences into one master list? I started this strategy but have already hit the issue of it seeming that a contact cannot have multiple tags (when I click on a contact they are only showing a single most recent tag even though I tagged them differently in multiple Audiences). Is there a way for audience members of numerous lists, each tagged according to that list before being merged into one, to still be identifiable as having been a member of that previous sub-category so I can target them accordingly? I am not yet able to handle the Group form - first I want to get right with all my pre-existing subscribers many of whom I have sub-categorized in multiple Audiences. And I don't think my delineations are standard enough for Segments to handle. Sheesh! I really got tangled up and am hoping Tags (or something) can sort this mess out. Thanks for reading, hopefully understanding and sending a solution!

      The best you can do is to add hidden groups to the sign up form. For tags, you'll need to use an alternative source. For WordPress there are many plugins. For off of WordPress I think a Zapier integration with Mailchimp would work.

Also quick question: a while ago I was using Mailchimp for a political project, and I needed to upload address data with address, city, state, zip in their own columns, but MC would only allow an address field. Is this still the case?

    Really enjoyed the series. Just had a quick questions. The next level down and not really talked about was if you are having an optin are you setting the value of your form for the optin by GROUP or another way to then import into your list and dynamically set a tag. In the past I had created a hidden merge field with form specific optin information and when imported had a trigger run and then set a tag and start email series. Would love your thoughts on how you do this. Thanks.

    • @LarrySnow
      @LarrySnow  Před 5 lety

      Hi Andrew, By group or tag. You can add visible group options to your sign up form so a person interested in that group can select it when they sign up. You also can have preselected groups using the embed form advanced mode. Using the preselected groups option, you can have different embed forms for different preselected groups. More info here about that mailchimp.com/help/automatically-add-subscribers-to-a-group-at-signup/. As far as automatically applying a tag to someone who joins a group, I'm not sure if that is possible without using a plugin. Same with automatically applying a tag without a group option.

    Thank you so much for creating this series, it's helped me a lot with my set up. I do have a question. I want to send a weekly email with changing variables. If I set up the tags that correlate with a CSV contact upload, can I upload the same contacts with changed fields weekly? I know mail chimp gets rid of duplicates, so will it grab the new information or not? EX I create a merge tag for number of weekly visits, I prefer to have my secretary update a google doc VS this field in mail chimp.

    • @LarrySnow
      @LarrySnow  Před 4 lety

      Possible. You'll need remap each field on import. That seems like a lot of workaround. Could you upload the data file of weekly visits and just link to it in the campaign? You may want to investigate Zapier (or other tools like it) that will connect Google Drive and Mailchimp.

    Hi Larry, Good stuff. My question is that I have many tags already in my Copper CRM. How do I use them to get imported or assigned to the contacts I already have imported into MailChimp.
    Also I deal with a group of customers that do not use email and I want to send them postcards once or twice a month. Do I have to have the addresses in the people I import or can I import the company they work for and send the postcard without a person's name?

      @LarrySnow  Před 4 lety

      Hi Doug - To your first question - I don't know anything about Cooper CRM so I can't help you there specifically, but in general, exporting a Mailchimp audience list, then importing back, has the option to tag with an existing tag or create a new one.

      Hi Emily - Thanks! You have the same email going to contacts with different tags, but those contacts have both tags - then the answer is Yes - the overlapping contacts will receive the same email twice. You may want to take a look at setting up a segment (aka filter) that may help filter out the overlap.

    Hi Larry. Thank you so much for all your precious and helpful content. Do you know if it is possible to tag someone using a button from a mail you send them? For example "clic this button to let me know you don't want to receive any mail considering this particular sequence". I am preparing a email sequence about a training I have and I want to let my followers decide if they want to know about it or not. Maybe I can use something else but I don't think about anything else than tags to do so. Using just a button would be easier than a landing page for instance and I would loose less followers that way. Thank you for your feedback.

      You may be able to do it with a custom automation. I did a video on custom automation with adding a link to a campaign here - czcams.com/video/2udxYpIOGxk/video.html. So i am confused as to what goes into which group or segment. I have patients, and professionals. I have countries. Whether they have attended mulitple workshops and information days. @LarrySnow  Před 4 lety

      Wow that's a lot of data points. I would have a professionals and patients as groups. I would create all the tags necessary for interests, workshops, information days, etc. Then you can use Segments for campaigns. You can Add several filters to one segment. For example, one segment would be ALL patients(group) who live in the US( country) who attended X information days (tags) with these interests (tags).

When someone subscribes, they get the welcome email with a free guide (through an automation). I also have a second opt in, an ebook (sent through another automation). Both automations are set to trigger when someone subscribes. Meaning, a new subscriber ends up getting both the free guide and the ebook (when they only wanted one). Which should I use to fix this? Will groups help? Or are segments or tags for this purpose. Thanks so much!

    • @LarrySnow
      @LarrySnow  Před 2 lety

      Tagging, definitely. When someone subscribes and receives a welcome email apply a tag in the automation - for example, welcome. If someone signs up with the eBook opt-in automation, apply a another tag - for example, ebook. With the tags set, when someone subscribes check which tag was applied, if it is welcome, send the welcome email not the ebook, if the tag is ebook, send the ebook, not the welcome email. The above scenario can be done in the Customer Journeys automation.

      When Mailchimp pulls the feed to add content to your campaign, it pulls in content as it appears in the feed. If large images are included, your template width may stretch to the width of the widest image. To have Mailchimp resize the images when the feed is pulled in, check the Resize RSS feed images to fit template box on the RSS Feed step.
      Currently, this option can't resize images in feeds that are viewed in Outlook.

If you want to apply a tag to your existing audience you'll need to do that manually within Mailchimp or by exporting your audience list, add the tags to your contacts, and then reimporting your audience list.

    • @LarrySnow
      @LarrySnow  Před 4 lety

      Hi Walter, unfortunately no. The real issue is that Mailchimp's IP addresses that they use to send your emails along to your contacts. Most email provider's IP addresses are known to the likes of Gmail, Outlook, etc. and immediately send it to spam or promotion. Another issue is that Mailchimp is free for 2000 or under contacts. That is a great deal for most but it also brings people to the platform that sends spammy/cold email. When those emails are sent they bring many reports of spam to Mailchimp thus lessening the credibility of Mailchimp's IP addresses and impacts all of us. Mailchimp for their part rotate the IP addresses used but after time Gmail et al catch on and in the promotions folder the emails will go. Now having said all that you can lessen the impact by verifying your domain and adding a custom email domain authentication. More on email domain verification here - mailchimp.com/help/set-up-custom-domain-authentication-dkim-and-spf/. Another thing you can do is ask your contacts (those that receive them - deliverability - that's a whole other story for another day) to add your email to their contacts.

An alternative is to set a thank page on your website and set that URL as the thank you page in the landing page settings. In the web page would be a link to the item a person signed up for.
      The second way is to set a tag in the Landing Page settings. Then under the Automate tab, set up an automation email - "Email subscribers when they're tagged" - in the email add a link to the item they signed up for.

    Larry I am in a muddle with Tags already created people have subscribed to. I am limited to how many campaigns I can begin. We have a major road project call it Project A with many subscribers. Another project began some 20 miles away but unconnected, call it Project B that I tagged to project A. When I sent project B newsletters out they were also sent to Project B. How can I disapply Project B subscribers from Receiving Project A messages?

      Hi Jim, if they are unconnected projects, why not tag Project B with tag Project B and project A with tag Project A. When you send the campaign for project A, the send -to audience is the tag Project A, and vice-versa with Project B. Also, I'm not sure why you are limited in campaign sends - even the free account allows 10K campaigns sends a month.

    Hey Friend.. I have created different SEGMENTS for when a customer signs up through a FORM and chooses from different options. The idea is to divide the customers into groups. Question: Is it possible to automatically apply a TAG when a subscriber meets the criteria for each of these SEGMENTS? THANKS SO MUCH

    • @LarrySnow
      @LarrySnow  Před 3 lety

      Do you have the groups as an option in the sign up form? If you don't you should because the groups become your segments with no need of a tag. In any case, to answer your question, no, not with the MC embed form.

    We had communicated on another one of you pages, can't find it now but I have a couple of questions.
    1. I really screwed up and don't know what I did. As you recall I am doing this for a dog rescue group and am on the free version. We did one bulk mailing with good results. I was seeing what else I could accomplish, added a couple of columns and was planning on doing an anniversary email on the date a dog was adopted (I now know that I have to have paid for this to work) but in the meantime some of the data got screwed up, specifically some dog's names were put with the wrong adopter. I tried doing an update but that doesn't appear to fix it. What do I have to do?
    2. I did click on various fields to sort and assumed that all data followed the sort like in a spreadsheet, is this what caused my problem and if so what do I do to not screw things up again once I get squared away.
    Sure hope you can help me!
    Dave

      Hi Dave - I'm not sure how the rows of data got messed up by sorting columns in Mailchimp as it is just a sort of the columns by alphabetical order - ascending or descending depending if you click the column once for ascending and click it twice for descending. How did you add the columns - through the Audience Fields and Merge Tags setup under settings?

      @@LarrySnow Good morning Larry and thanks for responding so quickly! I set up all of my fields using a spreadsheet and using their headings where possible, uploaded as a CSV and in a couple of cases edited them using their edit in each column to match our headers. Since it is a mess I tried every column and did a sort, ascending and descending and in every case everything stayed in sync so like you I have no idea what I or the program did. I am of the opinion I will delete the whole mess and start over.
      By the way I was attempting to do a mail merge by setting up an email to send on the dog's adoption anniversary using the day before that date as the trigger. It appears that MC only does this to those that have a paid membership. We are a small Dog Rescue and I hesitate to commit to that expense with our very limited budget. Any suggestions on how or where I can accomplish this. Obviously we will have a plug for a donation in there as well.
      Again, thanks for the great Video's and responses.

    I want to have three lead magnets going to the same audience with different tags. Since we are using one audience, if the subscriber signs-up for another lead magnet, will they be able to and just get the additional tag?

    • @LarrySnow
      @LarrySnow  Před 3 lety

      Hi Neil - multiple tags are not possible using the standard Mailchimp sign-up form alone. If you used 3 individual audience lists, each with its own sign-up form, then it is possible. If you're using WordPress you'll need a plugin (usually a premium plugin) that will provide forms and tags. I use MC4WP by Ibericode. There is Zapier that will add a tag to a subscriber. Lastly, there is the Mailchimp Landing Page to act as your lead magnet. You can create as many landing pages as you need, with multiple tags as an option. Mailchimp landing pages are stand-alone pages that you share. FYI - You cannot embed a landing page on your website.

When a person signs up using the form they'll have an option to select a group. You can also hide groups. Yes, you can delete the tags from your audience list. This knowledge article should help show you how to delete tags - scroll towards the bottom - mailchimp.com/help/create-add-remove-tags/. I don't believe the tags would disappear if you combined it with an empty list.
