  • 1 out of 3 videos on the Airfix American West series. Fun and nice with something that´s a bit outside the regular toy soldier theme from Airfix.
This is of course the Cowboy set and later I will ad the Indians and 7th Cavalry sets.

I had them all, cowboys, indians and the cavalry-sets. Great memories! Greetings from Sweden

@@toysoldiernostalgia No, no toy soldiers left, altough I still look at them online occasionally. The last ones I looked at and felt I would have wanted was "Contes" 1/32 roman soldiers. When I was a kid/youth I loved to paint my soldiers. Maybe you did too?

@@toysoldiernostalgia I can even remember my first set of toy soldiers. I guess I was about 9-10 years old, and had them for christmas, one soldier every day from december 1st. It was the Airfix Afrika Korps... So they are a little special for me.

I never got the Airfix cowboys but had plenty of 32nd knock offs, thank you for posting this great video because it is like I am a child again making me want this toy for Christmas.

I may be wrong but some of these sculpts echoed the Britain's poses. It's a while since I looked but I have every figure I bought, and managed to save, back in the day. Boxes are long gone due to move after move, but I still have them all in little bags. There's no way I will willingly part with them. Airfix was my big love followed by Timpo and Swoppets, then Britains as you got less figures for your money. Great days. Now I see them up for sale for serious money. My first ever box of Airfix was British Commandos 1/72. Got them for Christmas prob about 1970? I would have been 7. Changed my world for years and years. My dad also got me a boxed set of Swoppet cowboys (and indians at one stage - possibly when I was younger). I was too young to appreciate them and lost bits far too easily. Looking back now - I would love the same boxed set just to bring it all back. Great days indeed!

Ron Cameron that sculpted most of Airfix 1/32 also sculpted Britains Deetail figures. So that`s probably why some look similar.
It`s interesting how important these little plastic figures became to us. Glad to hear you managed to keep all your childhood toy figures.
You can find pretty much all sets boxed on Ebay, toy fairs and Facebook groups these days. Makes a great little display with a boxed set and you`re old figures in front.

Would love to paint those, the sculpting still amazes me on these figures for the age. Great video.

Don’t know how many hours I played with this set as a kid. Many. In the end, I painted them up as confederates, to oppose the US Cavalry set. Didn’t look too credible but hey, as a kid it worked.

@@toysoldiernostalgia I'll look that up. As I'm sure you know, the High Chaparral set was the Cowboys set with some Characters from the show added; It came in an agreeable shade of brown plastic. We all loved that TV series when I was a kid.

Woolcos in Boscombe, Summer 1975! My set had two prone figures - didn’t realise I was missing the guy in the fireman’s shirt until I picked up another box thirty years later! I only have two originals left now.

The guy with the high hat would usually be called "Doc" in the movies. And for cow herders they are rather violent, everybody is wielding or shooting weapons.

Great video, shame all the figures were based on American westerns though. I grew up on Italian spagetti westerns and would have been cool to see some based on them. Still great figures and I had many hours playing the wild west in my bedroom with a big yeehaw to you. I wonder if they ever thought of a mexican set of the same era, out of interest is there a set that Airfix never did that you thought they should.

@@toysoldiernostalgia I got up thinking about this. Since you had NATO troops hows about Russian troops from the same era. Or knock it back a few years to the Vietnam war of marines and Viet Cong. Plus in addition to your medieval foot soldiers you could have knights, British boar war or Vikings. I think I might be putting too much thought into this.
