I remember the Orleans Parish Fire Marshall introduced Fats saying that a Fire Marshall's presence was required because thing were going to heat up. Fats had a killer team of players and put on a very strong show.
@50yoda Fats is still alive, I talked to him in phone yesterday, and he asked me to bring smoked salmon from Norway when I visit him in september. Reggie Houston is on the Baritone Sax. He now resides in Portland, OR. It just so happens Mr. Houston stopped by the restaurant were I work at one day. I was pretty shocked to see a legend standing in front of me.
Everything I've read says Hardesty plays tenor not baritone. I suspect that it's Reggie Houston, one of the baritone greats (also as a jazz musician), who played for Fats from the early 80's until 2005. And what's all the race bs? These people made this music world famous, as American music.
