The poor guy looked like he wanted to cry, my heart goes out to MobileGamer (AhnaldT101 as well for his version of Janga). It might have been educational for us, but it was devastating for him. Rule 101 of SW: GOH. 1. All crystals should be earned in game, all characters should be farmed over time.
I honestly became sick watching this. I worry they have an addiction to this game.

If anyone is curious or if MobileGamer wants to hurt a bit more, that streak of 5 Bastila's in a row where he walked out of the room had a .032% chance of happening which is more than 3 times less likely than pulling a 330 in those packs (0.10% chance)
that particular streak is very improbable to happen in those particular 5 pulls
but in a general distribution, when looking at the whole picture, it doesn't matter when and in which order they were pulled as they are all independent events
only the full number of Bastila pulls out of all the pulls he did actually bears meaning, everything else is purely psychological
(also, if you're going to count only those particular 5 pulls, the chance for at least one 330 pull in those 5 pulls is a bit higher actually (although not by very much since it's small numbers)
That's taking into account those numbers are true. Who is really fact checking CG? No one. We just take a company who feeds on humans (adults and children's) weakness towards gambling.
Technically, every streak of 5 pulls that MobileGamer got had a ".032%" chance of happening... ex. if he pulled bastilla, then jolee, then t3-m4, then zaalbar, then mission vao, that would still be a .032% chance. so correct math, but not sure how it applies...?
@@doom9246 That .032% applies only if you're looking for a SPECIFIC streak of 5 pulls. Getting 5 Bastilla pulls in a row is extremely unlikely. Getting a streak of Bastilla, Jolee, T3, Zaalbar, then Mission in any order in those 5 pulls is not only much more likely, it's much more preferable. So how does it apply? Mobilegamer is extremely unlucky for getting that hit of Bastillas.

Well said JG - that is pretty much what I do. I could never go Whale and drop 100's in one go but I'm happy to go small Dolphin and drop small amounts here and there to support a game a play on a daily basis. I still get plenty of pride and accomplishment in my roster and still feel the pain most F2P players feel. Works for me.

I've used to be in the same boat with the drugs and alcohol, I'm now 2 years clean and I have to say spending money on this game brings back those bad memories of buying drugs and the regret when it's all said and done and you feel like you wasted your money...it's just not a good feeling to have any old feelings like those rushing back. Anyways good for you on your 5 years.

I too have been sober for around 5 years after my third stint in rehab. And as you mentioned, we discuss gambling in recovery and it’s danger for us. It affects the same area of the brain that rewards us and releases endorphins.
I loved what you said at the end btw, I understand what you’re saying, I’ve been in some bad places too, and gambling , which is what this is, is another thing some people turn to.
I hate the random packs. Just give me shards at a certain price and just discount them where you buy them in bulk. I dont touch the shard packs for this reason.
This is exactly the predatory practice of gambling, though--people, on the whole, will spend more for this sort of thing than they will for the exact amount. It's all just social engineering toward that gambling, sadly.

how can anyone defend this and say it's not gambling? The game creators have found a loophole in the law and they are exploiting it. - They aren't the only game creators to be doing it, but they are #1 in the play store for this type of game...so it's only going to encourage more companies to follow suit. I respect Belgium for laying down the law and not succumbing to bribery.
Imagine all of the other shady industries where you could pull this tactic in order to circumvent taxes and criminality. Political bribery, kickbacks, prostitution, illicit drug sales, etc. It should be ended.

The reason these games are actually dangerous is, because of the nature of the human mind. As long as you not pay a dime, you are not involved, but if you start making payments.. After a while, you will realize, that you pay more and more, and that it is not easy to quit. This is called the "game theory". It is sort of an addiction, based on sacrifice. Once you "lost" enough money you start feeling remorse, but you will also feel that all your sacrifices will be without a reason, if you quit, and do not get wat you want, Victory. So you keep spending your money, and you are getting more and more desperate as your goal is getting closer. There is no winner however in these games, as thousands of people are playing and there always be a new character or a game update, and there always be a stronger gladiator, who have more in the pocket. These games are usually good, but highly addictive, well constructed by using the weak spots of the human mind, and worst than gambling, because you are gambling without a chance of winning back something.

Most people wouldn't pay $400 for a full game, even with all the extra content, maps, DLC characters, etc. unlocked... recognizing they could get an entire console for that price.

This is the perfect example of why the business model of this game is so utterly disgusting. It is gambling, and it takes advantage of people in horrible ways.
And let's not forget that it's completely unnecessary. It's just greed. They could make an insane profit from just cosmetic options (imagine how much money they'd make off skins for Revan). Look how much money people spend on cosmetics for games like CS:GO, R6:Siege, LoL, etc. and you'll realise that the horrid nature of this game is just so unnecessary.
This being your first time whaling out, speaks volumes to how genius the way they rolled him out was . It sucks but a really smart marketing move . No one is gonna quit over it either, we love it too much.

I'm pretty sure Cubs math was from refreshing the nodes and refreshing energy and getting Revan on the last day of the event.
Not only farming nodes/refreshing energy to the last day of the event, but starting from the day Revan was announced. Which means if one waited for the kit reveal to start the farm it becomes that much more difficult of a farm.
I feel your pain, but you being open about your feelings deserves the real comments back. Whaling is extremely similar to gambling addiction, like Ahnald said the mindset of “i already spent so much i have to keep going” is always strong, i used to struggle with gambling and pill addictions and it’s very nice to hear that from you. Shards for characters you have maxed shouldn’t keep dropping in those faction packs, its straight up gambling. I also understand what you mean about the drugs n alcohol relation you made, its very real. Thanks for the content, keep up the good work.

I also gave up Alcohol and Drugs and every time I buy just a single pack I get that feeling of wanting to buy more crystals to open a few more. Maybe the next one will be better type of thing. When you said it, I definitely understood the feeling and realized I never thought of it that way.

The nature of funds turning into crystals turning into shards without handling any actual currency can do this. You spent the money, now it's phony crystals. You spend a ton of crystals, get close to the end, and it's really easy to say "screw it" and keep clicking instead of taking pause and realizing there may be a more efficient way. I guarantee that if this was all done with dollars instead of crystals, there would have been a moment of reflection while paying that would have led to more efficient farming.
This wasn't about efficient farming, it was about a show of odds, and what can happen when you play them...That said, I wish he'd bought more farm crystals. I routinely put some cash in the game, but not like that. ooowwwww

I think the point of this video is that for $400, you can get 2! 7 star Bastilas. If the drop possibility were indeed equal, then there is no way that you get Bastila as often as you did. This IS a scam...
Neither of you actually understand statistics, you're simply going off emotion and confirmation bias. Nothing shown is outside the realms of possibility at all.

I spent $460 5 days ago to 7* Gear 10 all of these, Bastila was already at 7* Gear 11. So, 4 characters cost me that much. I am now at work on night shift waiting to get off so I can actually get Revan lol.

Hey man, I just wanted to say that - knowing your history from other videos - I was really worried about how you'd feel doing something like this, which is virtually the same as actually gambling. I was not dissappointed. EA wants this to be a game/something funny, but it can really throw people under the bus or in serious debt really easily. I am glad that you took the time at the end to share and to send out the message to others that may be going through something like this. You seem like a great guy, and even though I don't even know you outside of your videos, I'm happy that you are at a point where you are strong enough to go through this and share it with the world. This may very well be the deepest SWGOH video ever, and one of the deepest gaming videos all round.

The Revan requirements gave me the push to quit the game and this is the first video I've watched after avoiding them for a week. I already have a 7* Bastila; I had saved up about 20k crystals and bought her in shipments. It made the thought of those packs, VERY Unappealing. I will get Revan next time.
