“Significantly less uncomfortable” is the most British way of putting it!🤣
Obviously, the Cafe rule is “After 1, it’s in a bun” enjoyed the rail bits and, of course, the banter.
I love your biker scran days with Jeff & Dan, plenty of banter, ove it. Hope the opp went ok and yout feeling fit to ride again 👍
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks!
Excellent day out, thanks chaps. 👍 It's like Last of the Summer Winge?? 😂
I used to be a volunteer steam loco driver and firemen at Museum of Science & Industry railway in Manchester, which is sadly no more. These days I'm a volunteer signalman on the Churnet Valley Railway in Staffordshire.
The red signal levers are for home signals (which signal a train to pass the signal or not), yellow ones for distant signals (which tells the driver the status of the next home signal, to give him warning if he'll need to stop at it. there are none of those in the 'box at Chinnor). Black ones change the points, and blue ones are the Facing Point Lock levers (these physically lock the points preventing inadvertent changing of the points while a train is on them, which would obviously lead to an accident).
There are track circuits which detect whether a train is present in that track circuit's 'section' or not. These drive indicators for the signalman to see, and also feed into the electrical interlocking to prevent a train being signalled into a section where another train is present.
All points, signals, and track circuits are mechanically and electrically interlocked with each other to prevent the signalman mistakenly setting conflicting routes.
I love working the 'box!
The steam loco BTW is a Great Western 'Small Prairie' built in Swindon in 1924.
Vince
You know your trains Vince! Fascinating….
@@TheMissendenFlyer Railways have been a life-long interest, Andy. I was never a train spotter (they collect loco numbers in a book) but always fascinated by the technology and the social aspects of rail - how they transformed society by linking places and allowing travel for everyone. You didn't have to woo and marry a girl from your own village any more, which improved the gene pool, for instance!
Aviation made railways take a back seat when I started flying in the '70s, but never went away entirely.
Now in retirement it's back to being a major interest of never ending fascination.
I think you must have had a deprived childhood - presumably your parents never bought you a train set! 😁
Vince
@@gzk6nkBicycles also did their bit for the gene pool.
Yeah, Biker Scram is the best! Big thanks to all of you!!
Petrol heads like me appreciate trains! Power, engineering and history. Stunning!
Biker Scran is my favorite thing. Thank you all for this one and I look forward to the next one. By this time your shoulder operation should be 2-3 weeks behind you and I hope you are having a good recovery and a positive outcome from the procedure.
Thanks Louis some marginal improvement thus far - too early to call I think…
My favourite series of yours, Andy, would love to come along!
I'm a train driver and I found this really interesting about how the ye olde signal box works, all fancy electronics in modern signal boxes
How cool!
trains, motorcycles, friends and good food. that's the good life.
At first I read this as trans motorcycle friends 😂
@@everythinggaming7938 It's ma'me !
It's great to hang out with friends.
It's literally what life is all about. All the adverts for stuff we don't need and make us feel like our life won't be complete unless we buy X Y and Z makes us very miserable.
@@chrishart8548 For sure. People and friends valuable. Things, no so much.
Best ever Biker Scran, motorbikes and steam engine, it's all too exciting for this old bloke. When I was a boy the local signalman let me operate the levers and that was too exciting for a young lad, it's not a bad life is it? 👍👍
Geoff talking up the Z900rs at the start.... Good man!.😉
Best wishes with the shoulder situation. Hope they get you all sorted out with this one.
My son was an absolute train & trolley fanatic until about the age of 15 or so. He's been on every scenic ride in the Northeast U.S. and worked at a really nice trolley museum as a junior engineer.
Cool - and thank you!
Sound advice from Geoff indeed. Get rid of the Speed Twin and the Royal Enfield.
Man , you lott need Scran more often. Lovit! from US
Two of my favourite things, beautiful bikes and steam trains!
I used to live in Little Kimble and I now live in Baku, Azerbaijan.
I really appreciate your rides on my old local roads l. It brings back so many happy memories.
TMF is the place to watch for good motorcycle content and to learn new words. Who knew "scran" was a word. Must be a British vernacular...
It’s a naval term meaning food….and usefully rhymes with Dan….
@@TheMissendenFlyer thanks for it's meaning. Bonus poetry! 👍🏼
I was a train driver at Old Oak Common and drove the coal trains into chinor cement works before it became a heritage line. Have you done a complete video on the Enfield? It's gorgeous
Wow that’s cool! And yes loads of videos on the Enfield on here - I love it too!
I hope the surgery goes Well and You Will be back In the saddle before you know it ! Al the best from Brisbane ..
The most amazing thing I saw from this video and being from the U.S. is when Dan went to get coffee at the Train Station he came back with coffee in ceramic coffee mugs. We generally only get styrofoam cups with plastic lids. Good video. Thanks,
Yes I must admit if we get styrofoam cups here I’m very disappointed! When we were touring in the PNW we were amazed how much disposable items we were given at cafes and restaurants…
Another great episode with Geoff and Dan 👍 thanks Andy!!
Our pleasure!
Top scran, gents. It's always a pleasure to hear the three of you sharing a bit of banter.
Excellent as usual, biker scran is the highlight of the channel, oh and Dan the station master is definitely the star!!!
Love Bikes and Trains. A Nice day fore you and Friends.
Really enjoyable biker scran. Thank you gentlemen.
Our pleasure!
Your biker scans are always entertaining and one of my favourites. Jeff and Dan are great company, a laugh and knowledgeable. That steam chuffer was brilliant so much character, noise, rattle it sounds alive. Brilliant. Luck with your op. hope it goes well.
Thanks 👍
Brilliant love a biker scram. Thanks guys. 👍
Thanks Andy another great Biker Scran vid and we got a steam train and education on the signal points. Bloody awesome! I always enjoy these and seeing what you couth English Gentlemen on motorcycles like to have for breakfast!
Thanks 👍
Great video
I remember one time going into a ECHOS, cafe in kandahar for bacon rolls. Only to be told they dont do bacon rolls! So we had some BLT, and was asked them to hold the lettuce and tomato! 😂😂😂😂😂
Crazy.....
Always good to watch
The train and the station were absolutely beautiful.
The classical bike look will never die.. AND, yes I grew up when steam was nearly mainstream on the tracks, the D engine versions were starting to take over, SAD.. ; love the smell....fire breathing monsters
Love visiting heritage lines. Riding out to a cafe is what the majority of motorcycles do in England in the summer. Shame your latest cafe fell below expectations. Too late for breakfast, reminds me of a Micheal Douglas film Falling Down. He persuades the cafe to serve him breakfast 😅
Michael Douglas no doubt has more film star charisma than the three of us!
@@TheMissendenFlyer 😀😀 A machine gun helped
Great film!!!
This is far better than anything on the telly.
Thanks for the adventure, here in New Mexico in the spring the wind literally blows for a month! As in 50 mph gust. Ride safe
Absolutely fantastic, the steam train was a treat to see, and they seem to have copied your bikes colour scheme, always good to see Geoff and Dan, you all get on so well. I hope your glowing endorsement clears up soon.
Some years ago I decided that if a bike looks pretty, but otherwise not THE bike, then take a picture of it, hang it on the wall and go with the bike that gives the smiles.
Nice one mr Flyer. Cheers!
"FOUR HUNDRED QUID...." That is exactly what my head was saying as you said it. Lol.
Great minds and all that....
Top tip, I can highly recommend Fernygrove Farm Shop & Coffee Shop in Warfield, very near to Maidenhead so local for Dan. The food is all freshly prepared and will trump anything eaten on the series so far. Also some great riding roads in the surrounding area.
Even Pat's Baps? The current trophy holder?
@@TheMissendenFlyer Only one way to find out, send Dan on a trail run, the chips are cracking!
I've made a note of it - I'll check it out with Mrs Flyer at some point soon....
Only 10mins from White Waltham, a spot of flying followed by lunch, what could be better
Beautiful train! Always enjoy the Biker Scran videos.
Thank you very much!
What a treat. Thanks for sharing.
Our pleasure!
Love these Scran videos! And loved the train stuff! My mother's side of the family lived in Chinnor when she was young, my grandfather actually worked at the cement works there back in the day. Can't wait for the next one! Cheers
Glad you enjoyed it
Love the Biker Scrans. Best bits of the channel.
Glad you like them!
Thanks guys! Well that's a funny way to get breakfast, what next a filling station that's out of fuel but sells cans of fuel? I have loads more of your vids to catch up on so I'll see you next time Mr. Flyer. If it wasn't for these "Biker Scran"'s I'd hardly have a social life at all lol 😂
As a local, Chinnor railway was very interesting. Must do the ride from Thame.
love this trio :) Beautiful video
Thank you so much!
Superb vid. Loved that day out Andy and that was a fascinating insight to the workings in a signal box. Better than most stuff on TV that!!
Glad you enjoyed it Dave - coming from you that means a lot.
Get well soon hopefully you don't miss too much of the summer 🌞
It’s very easy to miss a UK summer!
It's one of the best scrams on your channel - the trains are just so interesting. The riding at the end was excellent, too.
Thank you very much!
Love these cafe rides with Jeff and Dan. Apart from the overly long wait I thought this one deserved higher scores. It looked nice and clean and was in a great setting. Look forward to the next Scran!
You didn't experience the wait or "service" - glad you enjoyed the vid though.....
Shame.
I think your friend Dan has good taste, and I loved Geoff's quip "Do you know who I used to be?" 🙂
Having recently aquired a Z900RS and ridden it a lot, I find it's a brilliant contrast to my V twin Guzzi. We don't want every bike to be a 270-degree twin...
I think the Z makes some fantastic noises in stock trim. My 3 word summary of the Z is: Fast, Economical, Fun. And just like the Guzzi, a piece of motorcycle art.
Yes I do agree - loving my Z900 at the moment!
Great vid, The great breakfast loophole!!
Entertaining vid as ever. Shame about the cafe but otherwise looked a good day out with the lads. As for the engine debate on twins & fours, twins have more character, especially at low/legal speeds, but four's are more exciting when you wind them up imo. Although that's getting much harder these days. I personally own a twin currently but have had had a couple of fours & a single before too. However, my first preference would be a twin now I think. I also really like the strong engine braking which you can use like a light break. They just suit my riding style better & they're always fun & characterful imo.
Enjoyed this, great fun.. I hope the op went well Andy.
Too early to call…but thanks!
Meteorological summer starts in June so still to look forward to.
Great to see that lovely steam train and your scram series back Andy 👍
Many thanks!
Another great biker scran, with the added bonus of a steam train. Luckily for you all that the ride there was good, or it could of been back for another rock cake lol. Good to see Geoff and Dan looking well too.
Me too, supr video.
Best of luck with the shoulder.
Thank you!
Do you know who I think i used to be! 😂 That had me giggling. Will use that 😂
Great to see the Anoraks having a great day out. I’m actually a secret train nerd growing up in South Devon but now down in OZ. Its actually a wetter Autumn here than your slightly damp Spring day. Keep up the fun content flyer 👍
Fair point, non the less a twin is a perfect measure in cylinders that should be on a bike. I do like singles also, but 3 or 4 cylinder bikes, even though I did own them I never felt connected to as much as a twin. For me, I would never buy a triple or 4 cylinder bike again. Use to have BMW R9T, sold it and hopefully this summer I plan to buy R1300GS Trophy version with all the trim possible. Twin cylinder bike is always the way to go, parallel twin like the Triumph or RE Interceptor, awesome. My personal favourite, boxer twin. 😊
A four cylinder needs to be high horsepower to make any sense. A single needs to make low horsepower to make any sense. A twin is usually more horsepower than a single and more torque than a four.
Anything transport related 😊 bikes at the number 1 slot , sunny weather out in good company, what could be better
What a great episode of Biker Scran, shame about the issues with the cafe. Love the banter! Cheers
Glad you enjoyed it
My two favourite things, bikes and trains! Even if it is a GWR engine…. Never mind, it’s great it’s still working for a living. Brilliant.
You can’t get rid of the RS as that’s how I found your channel. I was looking for things about the RS when I bought mine in August. 😄I’ve been addicted ever since. Lovely to see the workings of a signal box. It’ll seem like a foreign language to you if you’re not used to it but it’s second nature….👍
Great episode, very entertaining 😄👍
you Brits do love your round-abouts :)
Yes we do - it’s cos we can’t afford traffic lights! ….and to be fair they do tend to keep traffic moving better…
@@TheMissendenFlyerwe have loads of traffic lights. Most county's have between 300 and 400 sets of traffic lights.
That was an interesting scan.
Hope the surgery went well...cheers! Also - so many Minis in your videos. This warms my heart as a Mini owner :)
They are popular!
I live in Bristol & am wondering exactly where your next outing will be (I can't think of where you mean off the top of my head)... Anyway, if you have time, I would recommend riding to the harbourside for a tea/coffee before going home. There is a dedicated motorcycle free parking bay opposite Brunel's Buttery (an outdoor cafe) & ample opportunity to carry on with the industrial heritage theme. Close by is the steam Fairbairn crane + the John King & Mayflower tug boats. Depending on which day you arrive, there can be steam engines running along what is left of the dockside railway. I'm sure you would all enjoy it.
Sounds good to me!
Always a pleasure … 👍
Thank you!
always great to see the chaps
It is indeed!
Definitely the best one so far,you guys a becoming food gourmets loved the train bit, good luck with the shoulder young man😍
Thank you so much 😁
Enjoyed that one, the signal box was fascinating.
Wasn’t it!
Morning Andy , very British episode today, right down to the " you can't have breakfast after 1.00pm ". I was working away from home and my mate asked at the breakfast table if he could have some orange juice, to be told of you have that you can't have toast 😂. Got to love the flexibility of some of these establishments.
Bit of back door action being promised for your next biker scran outing then 😉
I do like Geoff and Dan but that might be going a tad too far!
Hello from Wycombe 👍
Enjoyed this video - took my wife for a cream tea on the chuffer last year and loved it.
Booked in again for August, so will keep an eye out for Dan 👍
Great scram guys
….Scran 😘
Very nice episode! 🚂🏍️
The Boys are back 🤙
As promised thanks i will enjoy my scran watching this
This is something I can identify with. Love the video.
Great video Andy. Love your channel and love steam trains.
Many thanks!
Love some biker scran with Geoff and Dan!
Man this is great. I drove a famous steam train 64 years ago. Seriously.
Which one?
@@TheMissendenFlyer The Little General. It was the one that took President Lincoln home to Springfield IL after his assasination nearly a hundred years before. I took it a quarter mile through the railroad yard. It was a great experience. Not to happen since. Back in 1990's I took the steam train from Williams to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and back. It was taken out of service then and replaced by a diesel. I had got to do some wonderful amaxing things in my life. John Britten was a friend and Steve Earl. Among others
Loved the train, yeah, you guys are cool too!
Thanks! 😃
All the best for the op, Andy.
Many thanks....
Definitely spring in April 🌱
Love Jeff's humour!
About time, yeah boy!
Risborough, Longwiick to Thame great ride 13 mins in the old days 😎🇨🇦. Great vid played rugby in Chinnor in the 60s
Loving these videos Andy as I can't get out myself due to breaking my wrist coming off my bike on a roundabout while sliding through an oil slick. I didn't realise just how quickly you hit the deck with oil or diesel on the road surface. Carry on scramming!
Sorry about the wrist - hope you can get it fixed soon!
Brilliant video mate, look forward to the next one. Shame when cafes are like that, maybe they will watch video and do a all day breakfast 🤣
Always good to get out on a bike & see a proper train pulled by steam loco , pity the scran was naff ,but 2 out of three ain’t bad .😎👍
I do love trains!
Really enjoy a tour with Jeff & Dan and a Steam Train .
The Train is still younger than the three of you combined just a a small notice 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for that.....
I have a suggestion for videos while you’re unable to ride yourself: interview older motorcyclists.
In the early 1980s I was working at a 7-Eleven when an older man rode up and parked a hideous motorcycle. It was all out of proportion and looked like something someone would ride across a desert. It was too tall and the engine’s cylinders were sticking straight out the sides.
That was my first experience with a BMW motorcycle. I didn’t know BMW made motorbikes. My personal bike was a 1964 BSA Lightning.
Anyway, the man bought a cup of coffee and we had a chat. He told me all about his motorcycle and the trip he was on. The man was 83 years old!
He lived in Florida and had set out to ride up the east coast, across Canada, down the west coast and across the south back home. He was with a handful of ‘weenies on Goldwings’ as he put it and got tired of them around Washington state and decided to ride straight home, which is why he was in the belly button of America at my 7-Eleven store.
Forty years later and I still think about that old guy.
Good luck with your operation! I always appreciate your videos.
Brilliant, as I said in the video it was recorded in the middle of April so the operation was a few weeks ago now and I’ve managed to pretty much keep riding and making videos so hopefully you’ve not missed me!
@@TheMissendenFlyer that is so good to hear! I have not missed any of your videos. I usually don't take the time to comment on your very well done videos, just give a thumbs up and move along.
Your intercepter looks amazing
Cheers - I think so too (though it’s not a universally held view!)
“A garden center with something around the back.” 🤔 Sounds a bit naughty, doesn’t it 😆. I enjoyed the train station stop, nice to see history preserved and still being used as opposed to static displays 👍.
Glad you enjoyed it
