- A massive landslide is feared to have killed many after it struck six remote villages in Papua New Guinea, local officials and aid agencies said.
The landslide buried more than 100 homes after it struck at around 03:00 local time Friday (17:00 GMT Thursday) in the highlands of Enga, north of the island nation in the south-west Pacific.
It was not immediately clear how many people were trapped in the rubble and no casualties have been officially confirmed.
Enga governor Peter Ipatas told AFP news agency it was an "unprecedented natural disaster".
Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister James Marape said his government has sent disaster officials to the landslide site to "start relief work, recovery of bodies, and reconstruction of infrastructure".

If there has been no rain lately then my next question is, have they pulled out a lot of trees in the area?
If so this can cause soil erosion and in time a landslide.
If economics demands you pull out lots of trees then you need to restore that soil afterwards with new plant life and soil organisms; in particular the fungal hyphae that acts like a glue and holds the soil together.
We are also experiencing significant environmental responsibility factors here in north America.......iz not good

The Prime Minister of PNG has failed it's people as he is more concerned about staying as a Prime Minister due to the Vote of no confidence in him and is calling in other nations for aid, assistance and help. He has failed his people, where as other Nations are assisting and the people of PNG are thanking these other nations for the help and assistance as their own PM has failed them. Prayers for all the people who have lost loved ones, homes, everything and to all those other nations who are assisting as well. This area is very remote in the high lands and very hard to get to, as the landslide came down over the main road. God Bless all the clans and villages and people who lost family and need urgent help and to relocate them to safer areas. Shame on the Prime Minister JM, and he says he is a Christian. Guess not by his lack of action to his people and his country. Also there is a mine not far and this could have some impact underground as well to the landslide, as well as heavy rainfalls.
