Hi Nigel, Thanks for another great unboxing. I've seen the videos of the wreck. Takom did a nice job catching the details. This would be a great model to super detail, inside and out. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. Jeff
Great build and vid 🙏💞💪🍺👍
Nigel, I believe (but have not yet been able to confirm) that Admiral Yamamoto did not accompany the Pearl Harbor attack force, but was back in Japan on his flagship. Admiral Nagumo, as Commander of the the Pearl Harbor attack force, would most likely have been on the Akagi, and would most likely have been on the bridge during the attack. You may wish to obtain a copy of the book "Shattered Sword" by Jonathan Parshall and Anthony Tully, which has some excellent descriptions of the island and bridge accommodations on the Akagi as they existed at the time of the Battle of Midway. Most IJN carriers did not have what the US Navy would have called "flag spaces", where an admiral commanding a task force, and his staff, could work separately from the captain of the carrier. Thus, Nagumo and his staff would, most probably, have been crowded onto the Akagi's relatively small bridge space with the Akagi's captain and the bridge watch officers.
Now getting the right zeros and figures for this... I got one zero from hasegawa and thats it... the waving sailors wont be easy to find
That photoetch sheet probably acts like a razor blade on the inside of the plastic bag edges when everything slides about in the box, Nige. Quite the little escape artiste. 😅 Thanks for the review, enjoyed it. I have the Border kit but haven’t had the time to get it out of the shipping box yet, probably risk a hernia doing that.
I just received mine yesterday from UPS. Looking forward to building it.
I'm very tempted by the 1/35 Border models deck with the Kate, but I was told that it doesn't include those anti splinter mattresses.
If that is the case, it's a but of a sad omission.
Very nice kit ,I always thought they were sand bags as well.
I'm sure the aftermarket will be all over this. Scaledecks or someone will surely come out with a proper wood deck. Nice to see they detailed the bridge, especially in 1/72. Wonder if the Border kit will have that. Hope you shake off the grouches. Had a bout of those myself the other day. No reason, just pissy all day.
Thanks Charlie. It's down to not getting enough sleep I think. Little Jess has me up all hours!!
Very nice. For me, I'd have preferred 1/48. One could have used the figures from Tamiya's original A6M5c kit and later G4M 'Betty', as they both have the waving figures. 1/72 is just too small. (For me).
Still, good review, Nige. (All you need now is the rest of the hull. 😉👍)
@@NigelsModellingBench Coming from you mate, I wouldn't put it past ya.😀
I was right. 'SuperNige!' 😄👍
My Border Model Akagi arrived two days ago.you'll be pleased to know the molding of the deck planks is irregular.
@@NigelsModellingBench The joints need a little bit of work (at least on my one). On the whole the fit is good but there are some minor gaps. They are big chunky pieces of plastic.
Please send a pic to me at nigelsmodellingbench at gee mail dot com.
I may now live in 🇨🇦 but I remember Devizes = Wadworth 6X. Cheers Nigel
Another great review! Hopefully, they come out with one of the US carriers from Midway. Glue on!
Thanks... I believe this kit could easily be used for Midway.. Didn't they only change the deck painting? Yeah, Enterprise/Yorktown would be cool!!
Can't wait to see how u paint this 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
got mine from MBK a few weeks back, in my kit the PE sheet was in the bag together with the manual and the decal sheet!
Great kit, that will be a very nice display together with some figures and aircraft :)
edit: ahh I see, you found the reason for the almost lost PE fret... obviously commented prematurely ;)
Great review Nigel looking forward to see the border as well for comparison
So, before i watch past the intro, what could possibly grind Nigels gears to that level?
Ejector pin marks all over visible surfaces?
Or sprue connection points in stupid places?
Let's watch on and find out....😂
Excellent review 👍
Hi Nigel been following you now for some time. Have you heard if they will be producing a 1/72 scale British aircraft carrier any time soon. I have started a project that will work nicely if the do.
Maybe a nice dio if one has a 1/72 Dauntless in the stash 😊
They were rolled up mattresses…
That's really nice and I agree than they shouldn't have that ledge, it does look weird! (also, if you don't mind can you please tell me if you ever gave up on a kit and binned it? I just did that and would hope it's not just me! - it was a 1/144th scale model and that's just too small for me, so 40% into it I just binned it.)
@@NigelsModellingBench Thank you! I don't feel too bad now if someone of your skill has done it too. :)
why subtitles, translation are not available?
@@NigelsModellingBench Well, let’s look at the less important process of the bathroom, and that’s all.
Please explain? Click subtitles, then settings then select your language.
@@NigelsModellingBench thank you, everything has appeared, many thanks for taking care of your subscribers.
First thought led lights, second thought silhouette figures. Third and final, no don't do it
Ah Takom. Decent kits. Garbage instructions.
Hi Nigel, These are rolled mattresses (Futon) to protect from shrapnel, I believe it's called "mantelets"
