Im not sure if its still cannon but it might as well be; the reason the world eaters armor is red is because they stopped washing it at some point and it turned red from blood. The new recruits mistook it for a new paint scheme, and started painting theirs that way.

It's partly that, and it's partly a signifier in the legion of someone "lost to the nails".
Those "butchers nails" the world eaters have hooked into their brains, if they can no longer function logically and become nothing but a murdering violent psychopath they get put into a special melee combat group called "the red butchers", they wear red terminator armour and armed with 2 giant chainsaw fists to leave the battlefield a bloody mess.
By the time of 40k practically every world eater is lost to the nails

Fun fact, Angron was actually the nicest of all primarchs prior to his nails which reduced his ability to feel and removed his primarch capabilities.
For reference, every primarch has some amount of magic and Angron's took the form of inhereting the pain of others and healing.
Angron and the world eaters are my favourite legion as they are an endless trajedy of honour against savagery, kindness against violence, a father who wants to love and yet is physically incapable.

Channels I would recommend on the regular:
    1. Luetin09, loremaster extraordinaire, usually does the in-depth/very detailed lore videos in an essay like format.
Great voice, makes clear when he’s speculating, very long videos, usually 30-90+ minutes depending on the topic involved.
    2. Baldermort, does more basic lore, but typically features creative stories of his own making to really make you feel like you are really in the setting of 40k. His “Imperial fists” video is a masterpiece imo.
Fantastic voice as well, really fits the setting. Video length usually anywhere between 15-90 minutes, again, dependent on what kind of topic he’s going over.
    3. Majorkill, also more basic lore, but is more on the funny/trollish side of things, usually videos are more like 10-20 minutes, so more friendly for people without as much time to listen/adhd crowd or if you just happen to like your lore in more bite size bits.
    4. Oculus Imperia, another loremaster. Soothing/calming voice like Luetin, imo, both are great for falling asleep to. Tends to do more detailed/in-depth lore videos as well, but presented as if the narrator is an actual historian trying to learn about the history of the Imperium. Videos tend to be 30-90 minutes for the most part too.
    Honorable mention(s):

The funny thing about the Alpha Legion is that we honestly don’t know if they are traitors or are trying to destroy Chaos from the inside, they are that deceitful. The biography of Alpharius opens with “I am Alpharius, that is a lie.”
There is a story of an Emperor’s Children that was obsessed with dueling attacked human civilians and a Space Marine got in the way. The Emperor’s Children cut the helmet and saw the face of Alpharius, at that moment the Emperor’s Children ran away. Then the Alpha Legion marine got up and walked away, the human asked who they were and the marine simply said “I am Alpharius”. When it comes to the Alpha Legion it is not the one in front of you that you should be scared of but the one that took the form of your son and is going to kill you in your sleep.
Supposedly Alpharius died, we think. It could be that Omegon died or maybe even just a strong Alpha Legion marine died, we have no idea.

So the reason why there is a rivalry between the Iron Warriors and the Imperial Fists is due to how the Emperor treated Perturabo.
Perturabo wanted to build, make stuff, create, but the planet he landed on had nations always at war with each other that he straight up just said "Fuck it, you people won't stop, so I'll stop all of it for you." and won, ALL of the wars with master crafted tools of war.
When the Emperor came, he thought "I'm finally gonna be given true purpose and do as I wish", but was instead given a legion that was tasked with the most grueling, fatal, and destructive sieges that usually had little impact on the whole. He felt like his talents were being wasted. He wanted to build, but was tasked to destroy.
The Emperor wanted the Imperial Palace on Terra to be built, and Perturabo thought "This is my chance, truly father would pick me since I can make masterpieces" but was overlooked, and Rogal Dorn, Primarch of the Imperial Fists, was chosen to build the palace.
Perturabo would turn traitor eventually, and Bricky was right when he said that Perturabo is competent. While the Horus Heresy did in fact have half the space marines go traitor, most of the decisive points on the traitor's side was done by Perturabo, if we were to say how effective he was, 90% of the Heresy worked because of Perturabo while the rest just became possessed by demons and warp taint. He blew 23 holes in the Imperial Palace, then just left because he saw how uncoordinated and insane the traitors had become at the Siege of Terra.

Each one of those space marines from a single 1000 man chapter can use the resources of several differant worlds just to keep one alive and fighting. The marine himself might have been taken from a feral world to be raised and trained on a death world while being fed clothed and equip from 3 other worlds and that doesn't take into account any special skills the marine has like tech marines which are the chapters mechanics all have to visit and train on Mars before they can become tech marines so that's atleast 6 differant worlds just for one chapter and there's around a 1000 chapters in 40k. Each of the legions was made when the primarchs were scattered, and the thought was that once their primarchs were found, the legions would adapt to their new primarchs ways. This worked, but it also had the unintended consequence of making some legions problems even worse. Angron was found making a last stand with his fellow gladiators preforming a slave revolt, and saved. The problem was, it was only angron who the emporer saved, and let all of his friends die. Angron never forgave the emporer for this, feeling like he was robbed at a chance of dying with his friends and instead forced into a life of slavery with a new master telling him who to kill. And this resentment and outlook spread to his own legion, who were desperate to win the approval of their primarch, who was incapable of doing so do to the nails.

Each Primarch also has thier own special Powers:
Lion el Johnson - is the greatest in Melee Combat, especially against Demons, he can also predict how someone would attack and his body would instantly react.
Fulgrim - is supernaturally Handsome, and he has an Inhumanely fast healing factor.
Perturabo - Can look at something and know exactly how it works, and how to unmake it. its why he's bitter, he can never had any satisfaction in his work
The Khan - Insanely fast, as well as being unreadable. like how you can look at someone and know if theyre mad or happy, cant tell with The Khan.
Leman Russ - Has a Shout that stuns Demon, can turn into a (space) werewolf, and uses Not Psyker Powers to do Psyker things
Rogal Dorn - He has an aura of Anti-Psyker bullshit
Konrad Curze - He can see the Future, both near and far, can tell what move someone would make in combat, and knew how he would die because of it. and Stealth.
Sanguinius - Also had Future vision, has Wings (can fly without them), has strong psychic powers, can detect when one of his sons die, and can project an aura of Awe/Fear
Ferrus Manus - No ones too sure, but its believed to have been related to Crafting. He died very early in the introduction to the world
Angron - Can Detect and cause and Aura of Pain on Psykers, can feel the negative emotions of others and absorb that pain
Roboute Guilliman - Minor warp detection, Minor Aura of Awe/Fear, Just really great at Organizing
Mortarion - The ability to Drain the stamina of his foe and take it for himself, Highly Resistant and Tanky, minor stealth
Magnus - The 3rd Most powerful Psyker just under the Emperor (and His friend Malcador)
Horus - High Charisma, High Leadership skills
Lorgar Aurelian - When he speaks people are forced to listen, can detect souls, and project his own that even the blind can see him. strong psyker.
Vulkan - Immortal (the kinda that, The harder you die, the long it takes to return), Best Craftsmen, has Nightvision
Corvus Corax - Capable of erasing his entire presence and become invisible, speaks all languages, can turn into a Giant Crow Demon while in the warp.
Alpharius/Omegon - The can share thier blood with thier sons, giving them thier strength and power. Can project themselves as regular beings.

@@mycupoftea_1 I like the Ultramarines even though they are the basic and the posterboys of Warhammer 40k and I love the Roman and Greek ecstatic and one more thing even though Ultramarines have a fairly good relationship with their normal humans on their homeworld of Macragge but not to the extreme like the Salamanders do, plus on their homeworld of Macragge in the main capital there is a Council where many of the members are not only Ultramarines but also normal humans because Ultramarines are not only skilled in being soldiers but also Diplomacy and Logistics because thier Primarch Roboute guilliman not only trained his gene-sons to be Super soldiers but also diplomats and statesman.
I love the Dark Angels because they are the 1st legion and like their Primarch Lion el'jonson they are the first ones made before all the other Space Marine Legions meaning they are the basis for all space marines like the Ultramarines the Dark Angels are well rounded so they can do specific things just as good as other legions they can Siege, they can Defend, can assault in high speed, and stealth, plus I love the medieval Knight ecstatic and the secret of the Fallen is a very unique thing too hunting down their former brothers who turned Triator and keeping it secret from the rest of the Imperium.
Blood Angels maybe blood thirsty rage fueled vampires but the reason I love them is because of their Primarch Sanguinius who was one of the best and most beloved of the Primarchs all the Primarchs loved him even the bad ones in their own way like Angron because whenever he thought of his brother Sanguinius the butchers nails would stop hurting and soothing feeling would replace the pain.
When Sanguinius first met his legion and saw firsthand at what they do it broke his heart so he wanted to changed his gene-sons from blood thirsty rage fueled vampires into paragons who humasn can look up too he wanted his sons to be defenders of humanity and they did and it was more tragic for them because their gene-father Sanguinius was killed by Horus even after 10 thousand years they are still cursed with Red thirst and the Black Rage the Blood Angels still carry on the teaching their Primarch did for them to be the Defenders of humanity so they are the tragic heroes who still defend the Imperium of man.

So about Angron getting a leading role in the Crusade: the Emperor, great dad that he was, thought Angron had deviated so much from his premises (empathy, healing, social skills, basically a less militant Horus) that he was only useful as cannon fodder.
It's referenced in a Horus Heresy novel (can't remember the exact name atm, but some helpful soul in the comment section might help a struggling neckbeard out) where Angron confronts the big E right after getting teleported out of the hellhole he grew up in about why the Emperor didn't just help his slave rebellion to overthrow their oppressors, since he had an invincible army conquering the galaxy already, and that the Emperor now would have a corpse instead of a man serving him, big E replies "A corpse will suffice". I think Malcador has some dialogue about how Angron and his legion was basically cannon fodder for the Crusade, aswell.

He achieved apotheosis without the gifts of the Chaos Gods and became a Daemon Primarch in service of the God Emperor of Mankind and killed a full powered Lorgar (in Daemon Prince of Chaos form) like it was nothing.
Also I should mention that Horus was able to kill Sanguinius due to the second being mortally wounded after fighting Bloodthirster Ka'Bandha (which is one of the strongest daemons of Khorne) and right after that he fought Angron, who already went thru apotheosis and turned into another Daemon Prince of Chaos empowered by Khorne...

The Backpack that is being used by the traitor Astartes is the Mk 2 Anvilus Pattern Power Backpack that is a prototype of the OG mk1 post Maximus and pre Corvus pattern armors. This prototype is flowed tho, cuz it leaks radiation.
The helmet that the traitor Astartes use is the Sarum pattern helmet witch is a Mk 6 Heresy type B pattern helmet cuz is from that era tho is never pointed when and from was created.
Traitor Astartes uses a mixed armor from diferent patterns and far as we see them, is a mix of Mk 4, 5, 6 and 7 pattern armor
Old blood Black Legionnaires are the oldest Astartes alive for they where around during the HH, so old that they speak a older version their lenguage being High Gothic. So when the encounter a modern Astartes, when they communicate, it would be like an old englishmen from the Knights and Kings era trying to ask for the toilet to a hillbilly from Virginia.
Iron Warriors and Night Lords are Chaos just by name for in reality they are Renegade, they despite demons and mutations, they only use the warp powers because, well, because fuck you.

First Captain Sevatar was one of the greatest fighters amongst the Space Marines. He was an arrogant, brutal, competant man. He also had his own twisted sense of honor. Once, he was on a Dark Angels ship imprisoned and he met a little slave girl. He found out that the girls master, the ships navigator, had been abusing her. To the point where she was paralyzed. Sevatar broke out, found the navigator, and killed him in front of the Dark Angels protecting him. And as the Dark Angels rose their guns to him, he said "I am justice. I am judgement. I am punishment. And I surrender."

First around the 2nd and 11th was 'The players own legion' so they could be anything.
Latter and currently, the 2nd and 11th Legion is deleted from imperial records for something that they refuse to speak off and the Emperor had even 'erased' the memories from all the other Primarchs and has a sorta psychic 'lock' / 'suggestion' to never speak of them again.

He is currently switching these videos to his new channel "Old Man - Lore, Stories and Theory". They are thoroughly entertaining while giving the specifics about a certain subject or event within the lore. Or if you just want to laugh the cartoon series "If the Emperor had a text-to-speech device" by Bruva Alfabusa. There are 54 episodes of that. Currently it's on a hiatus because of Games Workshop (greedy bastards) getting pissy with people doing parodies or tributes using their "intellectual property". As far as why Angron was given a Legion to command, well, that can be chalked up to another of the many times the Emperor was being a really shitty dad. The Great Crusade was already well underway and Big E was well tired of playing the caring, understanding father figure. Emps didn't understand that despite all of his meddling in their genome, the Primarchs still had very human needs. Big E didn't care about those needs, he created them for one reason and one reason alone, and he expected them to do their duty without complaint.
There was also the fact that the Legion had already been created from Angron's gene seed. The lot of them were essentially being wasted without their Primarch to lead them.
As for Big E, even the loyalist Primarchs, by the end of the Horus Heresy, had to admit that he was a monumentally terrible father.
That's why it was so interesting for the Primarchs to start recently returning. Each and every loyalist Primarch has to examine now why he fights for the Imperium now that the current Imperium is a sad mockery of what the old Imperium once stood for, and Emps isn't in the picture.

The reason why there's nothing for the 2nd and 11th Legion is that something so terrible happened to them that even the chaos god forgot everything about them and all archive of them has been erased. Now that's the canon reason, the real reason behind that is that, at the very beginning of 40k, Games Workshop created 20 legion for the tabletop but two of them, the 2nd and 11th Legion, were blank slates options for the player for "create your own legion !". But as the writers kept expanding and developping the lore and universe of 40k they had to conciliate these two legion in the rest of the lore. But how do you conciliate something that is different from players to players ? You say that something so terrible happened to them that every record on them has been erased and therefore nobody, even the chaos god, knows what they were really like.

This is a setting that named the crow guy "Corvus Corax", so calling one "Peter Turbo" isn't unbelievable enough to make the gag work. Also any who say the Emperor is NOT a god are liars, it's NEVER fully stated if he is or isn't, it's up to the player to decide for themselves, you can believe he is or believe he isn't, but those who state outright he isn't should be rejected as bad faith.
