    For those who do not know where the name “Pink Floyd” came from…… Syd Barrett - original founder of the band had two favorite Blues Guitar Players in his record collection, two black men both from Atlanta Georgia…. “Pink Anderson and Floyd Council”

    I met David Gilmour in 1984 back stage at a concert in Hollywood Calif. He gave me a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know

    You’ve probably heard about how well Dark Side of the Moon synchs up with The Wizard of Oz. ‘Money’ begins the moment the film transitions from black & white to color, as Dorothy steps outside, onto the yellow brick road. The opening sound effects of this track fit the scene so well. Especially after following the chaotic tornado scene as ‘The Great Gig in the Sky’ plays. You can find it here on CZcams if you’re interested. Just a fun, artistic thing to experience.

I had a cassette of pros and cons that I played until the oxide wore off and it made a terrible screeching sound. I got very close to doing the same thing to the replacement cassette tape. Since it's apparent that so many people are still Blown Away by Pink Floyd in 2022 people are obviously going to continue listening to them! After checking several sites Dark Side of the Moon still sells from eight to ten thousand copies a week worldwide!! And like Mozart and Beethoven people will still be listening to them 200 500 even a thousand years from now if we don't get blown up by an asteroid or something! Yo, Dark side of the moon is one of the best albums ever made. I remember the day it was released. My 11 years old sister and I (7) left school for a dental appointment. On passing through town there was a HUGE queue leading towards the record shop, this was in a town of 50k inhabitants in Scotland, UK. I remember the big prism filling the shop window, but as a 7 year old didn't know what was up. I realised a while later.

  • @helmutvogel901
    @helmutvogel901 Před 2 lety

    Without realizing it, at the end of the song you just listened to, that organ or synth, was actually the beginning of the next track on the album. Pink Floyd's most popular albums are concept albums, meant to be listened from first to last track in order uninterrupted. Only by doing this will you appreciate just WHAT the song means to the album as a whole, kind of like a chapter in a book. After the first time, of course, you will know. The concept albums are Dark Side of the Moon 1973, Wish You Were Here 1975, Animals 1977 and The Wall 1979. Oh, and read the lyrics while listening, makes more sense that way.
    I was born in 1960, and my older brother had me into music good and young, and I grew up listening to ALL those great bands. And in my opinion, Pink Floyd has always been just a notch ahead of the next best bands, in their production, live shows, lyrics, etc. Still feel the same way today. And David GIlmour has ALWAYS been my favourite guitarist.
    And Comfortably Numb is on The Wall, not Dark Side of the Moon.
    And if you watch the live version at Pulse, please, please watch the UNCUT version, since the one everybody is watching has over 1 minute of guitar finale CUT OUT. Reason? Gilmour heard a 'dodgy note or two' so edited it out. But in order to get out 1 second of maybe not perfect music, they had to cut 1 minute and 6 seconds of perfectly GOOD and not dodgy notes out as well. I like the UNCUT version, because that is how the people at the concert heard it, and I even think I know which note or two is supposedly 'dodgy', but, for an extra minute of great guitar, who the eff cares?

    You should listen to Pink Floyd's song Sheep. There is a part where his voice transitions into a synthesizer seamlessly.

    It's funny how this song sings about caviar and nice cars as weird sorts of compromises, whereas many songs today paint achieving those things as being a positive symbol of success. Waters wrote it thinking of money being, in many ways, too complicated to call 'success.' Essentially it's about the cost of having money.

    If y’all like Pink Floyd this much, check out something from their album Animals. I recommend the song “Pigs” or “Dogs” to start with… though it’s a concept album so you really oughta do the whole thing in order for full effect.
    Stay real, y’all. Love.

    Brother- I agree 100%, Led Zepp and Pink Floyd are the absolute top of the heap in my book too.
    I remember when of all their albums came out, and we waited at the record stores for the shipments, to run home and put it on the turntable with speakers full blast. Every song’s a masterpiece. I’d say the only other band to rival them is the Allman Brother’s Band. I listened to this album when I was 18, after dropping pure LSD-25- whew!! a crazy, harrowing experience!

    Dark Side of the Moon, should be played from the first song on side 1, thru the last song on side 2, to really get the whole album. The band even said that's the way they made the album to be played, pretty cool.

    For the love of all things Pink Floyd, I urge anyone interested to get a copy of the "Classic Albums" series documentary episode featuring "The Making of the Dark Side of the Moon". There are fragments of it on YT but I urge you to seek it out in it's entirety.DVD or whatever, you will learn so much about the makings of one of the most essential/crucial albums in musical history. I guarantee it! It's phenomenal.

    Y'all need to check Pink Floyd's, "Animals"
    Listen/react to these two first. This is how the vinyl was arranged.
    Side one
    1. Pigs on the Wing (Part One)
    2. Dogs
    Then listen/react - Pigs.
    Then listen/react - Sheep and Pigs On the Wing(Part Two)
    Side two
    1. "Pigs (Three Different Ones)
    2. "Sheep"
    3. "Pigs on the Wing (Part Two)
    You won't regret it. It goes into some fantastic, thought-provoking lyrics. I'm probably biased, though. Animals is my favorite Floyd album. I bought it when it was released and already into Dark Side.
    Meddle is good too.

    Pink Floyd was a moderately successful UK band in 1972, when the band began working on 'Dark side of the moon'... When the album was released in 1973, Pink Floyd literally went from a faceless band to a legendary status by 1974... the album has sold over 45 million copies worldwide, and MONEY came pouring into the band members' pockets. The sad part is that massive commercial success did not fix the growing problems within the band... in fact, they got worse.
    David Gilmour remarked that Pink Floyd did not have a charismatic star(s) on stage like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, or The Who... their main guy was a bass player (Roger Waters) who glared at the audiences and could be difficult at times, so Pink Floyd stayed faceless for the most part... None of the band members were recognizable in public, which suited them fine.
    Pink Floyd had never gotten over their founder Syd Barrett being ousted from the band in 1968, and that loss had haunted the band members ever since... Even as they sold millions of records, played arenas and stadiums in the 70's, they still felt his "ghost" ... People speculated that Pink Floyd reunited to play 1 more show in 2005 for charity because they had heard that Syd Barrett was not in good health, and they wanted to thank him one last time by honoring the band he had created... Syd Barrett reportedly passed away in 2006... Keyboardist Richard Wright succumbed to cancer in 2008.
    David Gilmour (guitar & vocals) did the vocals on "Money" ... Roger Waters (bass) wrote the lyrics.

      They had the most amazing stage effects that you didn't have to look at the band. They had you hypnotized with the music and visuals together.

      @@saraheart2804 Yes, that song. I was referring to the lyrics & vocals... not the music.
      Wright, Gilmour & Mason did contribute music for 'Dark side of the moon'.

      @lathedauphinot6820 Před 2 lety

      They do hypnotize. The amazing thing was, when you saw them live, you realized the music, while being the part that had to be present, the sine qua non, was just a part of the whole show. Everything was coordinated: lights, visuals, music, band.
