interesting! could you provide some context? did rachmaninov actually record this? is that the original piano he played? did you record this film? where did you find this score? are there more of these? :)
Yes and No. I recorded this video on my partially restored Marshall and Wendell reproducing piano equipped with an AMPICO roll player that reportedly reproduces the player's actual performance. So, yes, Sergeio Rachmaninoff actually played this performance but not on this particular piano. Also, I have many other rolls including another roll of this Chopin piece that was played by Alfred Mirovitch in 1925. I will be posting it to CZcams soon.
This sounds like the right tempo. Maybe just slightly slow at the beginning. One thing I'm noticing is that it appears to speed up when playing passages with a lot of notes, and then slow down during the pauses. This suggests to me that friction is an issue, as you suggested. Also, many of the notes are missed in the quiet passages, but you probably already noticed that. Anyway, I just share these criticisms because you might find them useful...thanks for posting this great piece! It's the B-flat minor scherzo...maybe I misheard you over the phone, I thought you said E-flat minor.
Rach playing another legends music
