If this doesn't work, you can also try the method I used where you rage scream like a neanderthal while twisting the wiper blade until the plastic shatters in pieces from the j hook. Works like a charm.
Lol that's what I'm considering. I can't get past the hook to remove. That metal rod it engages with is in the way. I've disengaged with the hook but can't remove the wiper blade once I've done that
Yeah the ones I buy last 2 years and by the end you basically need to break it off. The ones from the dealership last about 8-12 months and come off with a little struggle. New I can switch them every day if I wanted lol.
You might also want to change them during the warmer and drier parts of the year. Bits of autumn and winter seem to clog the hooks and frozen plastic pieces seem to hate movement in general.
Where the hook engages with that metal rod in the wiper blade I can't figure it out how to get it off when I try to lift the wiper up and off once disengaged with the hook it just goes back to the hook. How do you do it? Just break it?
Best explanation I've seen. Other popular videos that pop up on Google search are poorly photographed and provide an irrelevant music track rather than a voice-over explanation.
I did it on the first one, then figured I could immediately do the second one, struggled with it for 5 freaking mins before rewatching the video, then got it on the first try lol. *KEY TO PEOPLE STRUGGLING WITH THE SMALL J-HOOK MODEL! Make sure when you're trying to take it off to do what he says and turn the blade horizontal, then press the tab before pulling the blade down to release it from the arm. I kept screwing up because I had the blade turned to one side or the other. It wasn't until I re-watched the video and saw that he said and showed, to turn the blade flush/horizontal to the vehicle. Again, this is for the small J-HOOK model. Thanks again SO MUCH for taking the time, and caring enough about your fellow man to make a video like this. You ROCK!
That's funny as f**#!!!! I did the same thing yesterday putting them on. What's really funny is that I had a flat head screwdriver in my back pocket!!!
Yeah funny you guys say that, about 9 months ago the same thing also happened to me! When I bought my car in October 2020 it was 6 year old just gone & apparently the lady who had it before me had the same wiper blade on for those 6 years! No wonder I couldn’t see a thing! I took it into Toyota for an airbag recall & thankfully they did it for me, they did tell me that it was incredibly jammed & there was no way I would’ve got it off on my own! I didn’t feel like such a girl then! Haha! Unfortunately that wiper is the only brand of wiper I can get from my car (I really wanted to try something else but unfortunately it’s a single large wiper in the middle & not many do those), it’s time it was changed again. I’ve been sent the wrong one & then finally got the correct one sent to me, but sadly I’ve had to go for the same brand again. I went for the more expensive version with the slight different fitting, so I’m hoping the job will be a little bit easier to do myself this time! Everyone tells me Bosch are really good, but it did nothing but screech & smear in the opposite right direction from new. I had Michelin on my old Toyota & they were so much better!
Just wanted to let you know your video was spot on. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and thought I didn't have the strength to do it. I was so frustrated with not being able to do a simple task. After watching your video, I went downstairs and just got the job done in no time. Thank you for your precise video.
It seems like the damn things were completely jammed, and then after watching this video they came off smooth as butter. Just had to move them in the right way. Thanks for uploading this, it really helped
watched a lot of videos, this is the first one to explain various after market blade removal. Putting new blades on is easy, it is the removal of the old “unmarked as to brand” that is the difficult part. Thanks
Thank you so much!!! I watched like 2 or 3 other videos and I didn’t understand how to get the wiper unhooked until you talked about the little plastic tab that locked it in place and I managed to pull it off and felt so empowered 😂
Thank you. I just needed to know whether it was a J hook or not so I wouldn't be afraid of breaking it by pulling hard. Saw other types of connections and this one was the one.
I just changed my own wiper blades thanks to this video. I reaaaalllly wanted to figure it out on my own and after watching several videos this was the easiest and best explanation! 💕💪🏽
This attachment mechanism is totally different than the original, and I was having the hardest time working it all out. With your help, they were changed out in 30 seconds, after 30 minutes plus of fighting with them. Thank you.
Thanks very much. The button didn't do anything and mine were stuck on the arm. But I saw how the button pushed thru the hook on the arm, so I used a screwdriver to get them off. Also using a towel to protect the glass was a great tip :)
Agree with last comment - 30 seconds once I knew what to do. I had to push pretty hard to release old blade from hook after depressing the plastic tab. I was afraid to push hard until after reviewing the video clip.
Anyone who is having trouble like me, keep in mind for uninstallation you really gotta add some force, but make sure it's in the right spot. There's two prongs on the bottom that are like a seat buckle that are really hard to pry, used some nose pliers. I'm on a mazda tribute btw!
Think I've come to realize no matter what brand of wipers you use, none of them come apart and go on too easily and most of the comments show I'm not the only one who feels this way.
TIP: If the wiper seems stuck, with the wipers in normal operating position try angling one end and then the other toward the top of the windshield a few times to loosen the bond with the J-hook. Every time I change them out they are ALWAYS stuck and need some loosening up and then they will come off pretty easily, but not before!
If the wiper is old, the "button" will almost ALWAYS be broken off so there's no button to see. This complicates what should be a simple operation and you should add this detail. I don't believe I'm the only one who discovered this through struggling to find this button to release the blade!
Yeah no. This isn't working on either. Pretty weird that they are BOTH not coming off with your instructions. I'm ready to crack the windshield with my hands in frustration. Lol
Limited application and instructions, Bosch adapters in my purchase didn't have a similar adapter to what was shown, and the Bosch instructions look like a child made them. I'll never buy Bosch again, the effort they put forth to help me install the blades, was lazy and pathetic.
Yet another video that is beyond pointless. I have a wiper like the orginal one you took off and there is nothing on this website that explains tlhow the Frick it works
If this doesn't work, you can also try the method I used where you rage scream like a neanderthal while twisting the wiper blade until the plastic shatters in pieces from the j hook. Works like a charm.
Been there!!
Lol that's what I'm considering. I can't get past the hook to remove. That metal rod it engages with is in the way. I've disengaged with the hook but can't remove the wiper blade once I've done that
🤣🤣🤣
This made my whole night 😂. Thanks so much for sharing! ❤
The part where you say "it'll come off real simple that way" is the part where I struggle...
This. After a few years, those wipers get stuck on tight! However, they sure come on (and off) real easy while new! 🤣

@@jamesgraves9858 It takes a bit if angling, but yes, you can always break off the piece.
Best video that I have watched regarding the changing out of the blades. The towel on the windshield is a lifesaver. Thank you!
CZcams has lots of videos on this topic. This video was clearest, best filmed, and worked the best and you did it in under two minutes. Thank you!

Where he says “it’ll come off real simple” you have to push the wiper down like it owes you money.
🤣😂🤣🤣underrated 🤣🤣🤣
I just went to Pep Boys today and the woman installed my new wipers for me 👏👏👏👏
Tried prying the wiper off with my pocket knife and sliced my finger! I then came here and stopped my barbaric ways!! Thank you!!!
That's funny as f**#!!!! I did the same thing yesterday putting them on. What's really funny is that I had a flat head screwdriver in my back pocket!!!

Just changed my wipers with this tutorial, thanks!
Oh. My. Goodness. THANK YOU! It took me two minutes to change each of my wiper blades after watching your video!

Thank you, I was having a tough time get the old one off...but found success after watching your video!!
watched a lot of videos, this is the first one to explain various after market blade removal. Putting new blades on is easy, it is the removal of the old “unmarked as to brand” that is the difficult part. Thanks
13 seconds into video and I had my wiper blade on. I needed this video. Maybe not the whole thing since I only watched the 13 seconds! Thank you!!
Thank you so much. As a single mom with out help I so appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Very thankful!
Thank you so much!!! I watched like 2 or 3 other videos and I didn’t understand how to get the wiper unhooked until you talked about the little plastic tab that locked it in place and I managed to pull it off and felt so empowered 😂
Thank you for uploading video , I was on the verge of snapping wiper just to get it off.
Best vid I've seen on the subject.
Thank you. I just needed to know whether it was a J hook or not so I wouldn't be afraid of breaking it by pulling hard.
Saw other types of connections and this one was the one.
Your video helped me get the originals off but the new ones went on just a little different. Thanks for the help!
I just changed my own wiper blades thanks to this video. I reaaaalllly wanted to figure it out on my own and after watching several videos this was the easiest and best explanation! 💕💪🏽

Hi thank you totally saved my life. That was my first time changing a windshield wiper and I’m v greatful
Thanks! Took me 2 seconds to remove them. I should've started here😂
Great tip about the towel on the glass!!
I watched a few videos and this is the one that helped me. Thank you.
Thanks very much. The button didn't do anything and mine were stuck on the arm. But I saw how the button pushed thru the hook on the arm, so I used a screwdriver to get them off. Also using a towel to protect the glass was a great tip :)
Worked just as you said it would. Mine is a done deal. Thank you. :)
Well-done, concise instructions. Clear close-ups and easy to follow. Thank you!
Thank you for posting this video. It really helped me out!
Thanks! Worked like a charm!
Thanks. Did the trick for me.
Thank you! You saved me so much time. I really appreciate it
thanks, I needed that!
Thanks for this! Making sure the new one snaps all the way down was the issue for me. You do have to apply some pressure before it will snap in.
Agree with last comment - 30 seconds once I knew what to do. I had to push pretty hard to release old blade from hook after depressing the plastic tab. I was afraid to push hard until after reviewing the video clip.
Thanks for the instructions! I was able to install new wiper blades only because of your video. Very helpful! 👍
Thank you it is really helpful!
Thanks for your tutorial
Thanks for the instruction.
Great vid!!
Thanks! That made it easy!
Thanks very helpful video
Who else is here feeling like a dum@ss😂
Xcellent explanation.

Good clear and simple guide to replacing wiper blades. Thank you!
Thank you! ❤
Thank you sooooo much for this! I was fighting with mine for a good 30 minutes
Perfect, thanks.
Mine has a pin but is a J-hook design. Should I snap that pin off? Don't see anything on my new wipers where a pin is needed.
Thanks, this was very helpful.
Ohhhh pull DOWN! Thank you! 😊
Thank you! Great instructions.
what do you do when that plastic piece to hold down has broken off? How do you get the windshield wiper off then?
My 2012 Impala has top clip this only video that shows it right as all rest show bottom clip only. Thanks.
Thanks 👍

You’re a legend thank you boss
Thanks!
What about a reverse J hook? I have one and they’re a b to get new wiper blades for.
If the wiper is old, the "button" will almost ALWAYS be broken off so there's no button to see. This complicates what should be a simple operation and you should add this detail. I don't believe I'm the only one who discovered this through struggling to find this button to release the blade!

Super helpful, thank you
it is very helpful. I need to refresh my memory every time I replace wiper blades.
It will come up really easy they say...well the blisters in my fingers say otherwise😂 perhaps the second time would be easier
It's a lot easier to do it too when it's not raining
Connection, guy with one eye and hook, hood connection?
So damn frustrated. The ‘simple’ part simply doesn’t work for me. I keep pressing and the damn thing won’t slide off
Except mine isn't doing that easy spin thin mentioned. I'll figure it out
Aha figured it out. Sweet. I'm changed out and ready to go.
Disc grider did the trick
Mine took a lot more convincing to come off
Somehow I feel like I'm going to ignore the towel and end up cracking my Windshield
Yeah no. This isn't working on either. Pretty weird that they are BOTH not coming off with your instructions. I'm ready to crack the windshield with my hands in frustration. Lol
looks like plan B for me blade removal
B=bust wiper blade
I have both. LOL
My wipers don't go on either way. Your missing another way. Motium wipers.
This doesn’t work after hitting the tab it won’t slide off the fucking hook terrific job mate
Limited application and instructions, Bosch adapters in my purchase didn't have a similar adapter to what was shown, and the Bosch instructions look like a child made them. I'll never buy Bosch again, the effort they put forth to help me install the blades, was lazy and pathetic.
For the love of God, it won’t come off
Yet another video that is beyond pointless. I have a wiper like the orginal one you took off and there is nothing on this website that explains tlhow the Frick it works
Possibly the most frustrating thing on earth
