Part 13: • Deon Cole Doesn't Know...
Part 15: • Deon Cole Recalls Smok...
Part 1: • Deon Cole Responds to ...
--------
In this clip, Deon Cole weighed in on Ben Stiller saying he has no apologies for the film ‘Tropic Thunder’ which saw Robert Downey Jr. essentially perform in blackface. Deon explained from a pure comedic perspective that the sheer over-the-top nature of Downey Jr.’s performance didn’t come across as demeaning to black people. From there, Deon addressed the controversial meme he created to poke fun at the "slap heard around the world," involving Will Smith and Chris Rock. He expresses his regret because Chris Rock has been a mentor of his for years. He then shares some sound advice that Chris once gave him about being a comedian before he's anything else in life, which includes being Black, an American, a father, and so on. From there, DJ Vlad chimes in and states that what Will Smith did at the Oscar's was some "Punk Sh*t" because he never would have responded the same way if Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson cracked a similar joke on stage. Lastly, the two men turn their attention to Jada's "entanglement" with August Alsina before DJ Vlad shocks his Deon by informing him that August recently "came out of the closet." - Zábava

vuck flad
Deon laughed w Vlad about one of the top not funny moments of the movie just to make vlad stop stating the obvious parts of the movie lol. 😂. Now that's funny.... BTW sister I am a black man and that movie was great and I wasn't offended at all either
Vlad, you NEED to clean this up! August Alsina did not come out as GAY! The guy in his pics are his BLOOD brother! You may be in for a lawsuit if you don't correct this.
As a black woman, Tropic Thunder is one of my favorite movies. The movie was not about being black or making fun of blacks. It was about how crazy actors can be and the extremes they'll go to when method acting. The actors did a great job and I can watch the movie over and over.
This is how I feel about any white character depicting black people. They don’t have thw skin color so they haven’t to paint it on. Even in the ‘50 or was just portraying a character
@@queenofthousandmoons2231 Robert Downey junior wasn’t playing a back guy he was casted as a method actor 😂😂😂
Why do you blacks always have to lead with your race? It's like that with every dang comment. Reminding us your race serves what purpose?
Technically Tropic Thunder was making fun of how ridiculous it is when white folks portray black people. Outrageous stereotypes & just overdoing the accents & mannerisms in general. It didn’t perpetuate any negative stereotypes overall so I think that’s why it didn’t get too much backlash in the end.
FACTS! Downey Jr. Was brilliant in this movie.
“I’m just a dude playing a dude dressed as another dude” 😂😂 forever the funniest line rdj ever done
I literally died laughing when he said “Gimmie that Got Damn map!” 🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂
First of all I'm a black man. And you are right that was the funniest line maybe ever in any comedy!😂 I love Robert Downey Junior's performance and I think he should have got an Oscar nomination for that performance. Furthermore I love that movie except for one thing. Why did they have to make the black guy the gay guy and why did it have to be any gay stuff in it period. Other than that I love that movie it was so funny. And just think Robert Downey Jr played a black guy, a Vietnamese guy, and an Australian guy! What a performance.
“You shredded like a julienne salad man. Got any tips?”
"i know what dude i am! i'm the dude playing the dude disguised as another dude." which is exactly who robert downey jr was in that movie 🤣
When Deon heard August came out, it was like he immediately had a joke!! He was holding it in 😂😂
He fought for his life😂😭
I'm a Blackman and RDJ is one of my favorite actors. Tropical Thunder was well put together. Never was there a dull scene. Sherlock Holmes is definitely a classic that I watch it over and over again. ❤
RDJ didn't "essentially" do blackface, it WAS blackface. And that was the point, and it was hilarious. I don't think people know what satire is.
Black face well never be funny regardless
😂😂 it was funny asf
No the point was that he was making fun of method actors that go to ridiculous lengths for a role
@@BryanKalloo your point supports the OPs
People don't want to learn what satire is. Many people meant to be a victim. They want a reason to be outraged.
Context and intent (should) matter, but they don't.
I have this strange feeling that most of the people who criticizes Robert Downey Jr for his work in Topic Thunder actually never watched the whole movie, if any significant amount of it.
They don't have to because A) that would be platforming and condoning it by giving it money B) the entire point was to make fun of self absorbed actors like a Leto or Carrey who abuse method as a way to see what they can get away with. As opposed to a Lewis who admits he stays in characters because he finds it the easiest. But he didn't halt production for half an hour during my left foot to be carried into the bathroom like Leto did on Morbious, or threatening the director that he would have to be giving a worse performance when asked if he could stop acting like a prick because Andy would have. Despite people who worked with Andy who are in the movie said he once pulled a prank by bringing escorts to taxi dressed as Tony Cliffton during a read through of a script. But would otherwise behave himself behind the scenes.
I have a feeling it’s a lot of white people criticizing him for playing that role. Mad because they can’t do black face as well as Topic thunder did.
And their probably not even black
I agree.
Gen Z brats
Deon Cole’s facial expression when VLAD said the August may have just come out as gay, is priceless 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 They are right “entanglement” is not the word for it… “Fucked up” is the phrase!
I LITERALLY THOUGHT THE SAME THING, I REWINDED IT SO I COULD SEE HIS FACIAL EXPRESSION AGAIN 😂
Me too his face turned to STONE!
I think Deon Cole may be a little sugary.
As a Black man from Mississippi, Tropic Thunder is one of my favorite comedy movies. S/o to RDJ, brilliant actor and acting.
Yea i know what disrespect looks like.. thats not it
But lots of southern blacks don’t recognize even subtle racism bc they are so used to it in the south.
@@ladylady8745 If that was an insult, you failed miserably.
@@kyriskustoms2172. I should have said some southern blacks don’t recognize some of the subtle racism…..
Tropic Thunder was honestly one of the best comedies of the last 20 years. The Tom Cruise part alone was something wild
Yes he did!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 "How about I give you a hobos dick cheese"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The tom cruise part almost made me pass out in the theater.
Totally agree. Cruise went full into that character and it was hilarious.
Thanks for not spoiling what he did. I dtill havent seen it. Soon
@tanheavy aka ispeakmucho yeah u gotta see it trop thunder is mad funny.
As a black man, and an intelligent human being, his inappropriate complexion was the joke and the black character called him out incessantly for it. It was also, hilarious.
As another brotha i concur.
@@thejoker-wu1sp same here!
You sound like a white boy foo go for a jog or something 😆
Likewise
I have no problem with it because they are making fun of actors that go too far and Brandon said what we would have liked to be said!
Chris Rock telling him he's a comic before he is black, that he is a comic before he is a father etc., explains everything I suspected I've felt about him
EXACTLY! That went over most ppl’s heads. Marlons special explained a lot to me as well.
The "Entanglement" fiasco boils down to immature people not setting healthy boundaries in their relationships. It doesn't take a genius to predict it was a disaster waiting to happen. Having an "open" relationship never works, because jealousy and hurt feelings will always be the outcome.
So true
I had no problem with Tropic Thunder because Robert Downey's character was getting checked by the real black guy the whole time so it's not like they're walking around ignoring that this guy's in blackface. If they ignored it the whole movie I would've had a problem with. It was actually done in a genius way not like the 1986 movie Soul Man.
Glad I read the comments 1st I was bout to point this out 😂
@Ramses Stafford, excellent point about Soul Man, salute.
I agree. That movie was hilarious because of the real black guy just as you said.
@@ttownhornet 👍🏽
Good point. The joke is how far method actors go for a role
August wasn't only Jaden's friend, he was also homeless and going through mental illness+physical sickness issues and Jada was supposed to be a parent figure and took advantage of the kid
Wasn't he going blind too
Jada prolly turned him out
Dude is 30..

I'm a black man and Tropic Thunder is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Classic! Deon said it right...at the time it was very funny.
If you can please try to look pass funny.
Who’s a black man? 😂
It's still funny today
@@anthonystroman8407 it’s a comedy , so why would you ?
Some people wait YEARS…to decide to get “offended”
Nobody got offended over Angelina Jolie doing a blackface role.
Robert Downey Jr WASN'T doing blackface. The character he was playing was doing blackface. It was a brilliant twist on the idea and comedic genius.
Perfectly put.
Exactly!
YOU BEAT ME TO IT! He wasnt doing a black face. He was (5) time grammy award winner! Got a medical change to make it happen! Sgt. Elias said Get YO Jheri Curl Detroit wearing so-n-so.. Man aint no curls back then LOL! This black dude thought Sgt. Elias MADE THE MOVIE if ya ask me!
It really wasn't.
Exactly! Everything isn't black and white.
I love that when you play Family Feud at home your answers don't count.
Its easy to say what you would have done when you have had time to replay the scenario in your head over and over again.
"When you play Family Feud, your answers don't count."
This is the greatest diss to us, the public. Because it's absolutely true.
That movie was a classic. You can joke on black people you just better be funny. Plus RDJ chill asf.
That's my stance on comedy period. Almost anything is up for grabs as long as it's witty enough to be funny.
With that being said, I'm in no position to get upset at someone finding the same joke that made me laugh to be offensive.
Agreed 💯💪
No if black people can make fun of white people on TV then white people can too.
Black man here... Robert Downey Jr and Ben stiller had me dying 😂😂😂.. phenomenal work..."collar up sum dem greens yeah"😂😂😂😂 ironically only young white ppl were offended
Your half white shut your mouth
Exactly honeslty any blck face was acting so it can’t be deemed as racist ever. All of it was acting to just portray something over the top. I think black people are sensitive over anything. Black face isn’t even racist it’s just acting
Or just a man here w/o putting your race first. Don't need to identify by your race.
Who cares ur race
It was funny.
I really enjoy all experiences with Deon Cole in them. He never fails to bring the feel good and he is very easy to listen too and always honest and intelligent and so so watchable funny too by the way
As a Blackman Tropic Thunder my shit these ppl be killing me
I loved that movie, tried of people going back in history to cry about old shit.
what you mean THESE PPL? 😂🤣
As a black man I agree loved it
The whole point of tropic thunder was to use satire to showcase the ridiculousness of Hollywood and actors within. Rdj's whole character is based on stereotypes/tropes, which is why we have Brandon T. Jackson's character to point out, "wtf are you doing, you think that's how black people are? because it's not. " It's making fun of an industry that is removed from reality.
00]
It was just some troll trying to make a story…sometimes Hollywood will go against a director when he can’t be bought or controlled…..race is a hot topic right now they tried to get him in the wash with all the nonsense.
Robert did such a great job I didn’t realize it was him the first time seeing it😂
Perfectly put, it was so over the top, and the way the real black dude played off of it made it funny
That SLAP joke from his 2019 special was funny as hell. Loved his first special

So good of him to remove & apologize for the meme (I didn't see it). So many people have spoken on how good of a person Chris Rock is and always helpful. 😍

"I'm a comic before I'm black" -- Sounds like something Chris Rock would stand on
Exactly what I was thinking. Smh like what? Way more offensive that tropic thunder movie lol
I'm not black but Tropic Thunder was making fun of actors than making fun of being black or being mean-spirited at all. That movie still holds up which is very difficult for a comedy, much more for one that has blackface in it, and that's a big testament to how well it was written and ahead of its time. Tom Cruise is in a fat suit doing an obvious parody of Harvey Weinstein too.
Let's make a comedy movie about the white boys who got killed in pearl Harbor...I wonder if Ben Stiller and Downey Jr are down for such a gag...
I didn't know who Harvey was back at that time. It makes sense now...lol. I have to look at again now. That movie was hilarious!!!😂😂😂
When you play family feud at home, ya answers don’t count😂😂😂😂💯.

Deon was choosing his words VERY carefully as to not offend anybody!😂....he was dodging Agent Vladimir's traps like like Mystique through the lasers!
That "400 years...." scene killed me. RDjr was hilarious.
The first time I saw Tropic Thunder, I came in on the jungle part and I was like "Damn- dude looks kinda like Robert Downey Jr."
“Man I don’t drop character until i do the DVD commentary!” RDJ kilt dat role 😂😂😂😂
I thought that picture of August and the dude was actually his brother and people like Vlad assumed he was implying that he was gay. Irresponsible journalism and we know Vlad will not apologize. 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
The guy is said to be his younger brother - I think August just wants yall to believe what makes yall happy as long as he's still talked about ( which is publicity good or bad!!)

His face when he said August was gay was priceless 😅
It was the head nodding after.... Plead the fif 😂
"8:41" that classic Deon Cole Head Nodd 😄..if you know you know
Context and "intent" is everything - Tropic Thunder was taking the piss out the concept of black face, and was pretty much putting the "commentary" of it in a movie. It is NOT the same as, say casting Julia Roberts to play Harriet Tubman - which was a REAL SUGGESTION by a "REAL" Hollywood producer in the 90s
😬😬

I love Tropic Thunder. It's all satire about the different Hollywood archetypes. RDJ was an immersive method actor who would forget who he was by the time filming, promo and the premiere wrapped, since he wouldn't break character until he "finishes the DVD commentary".
