I’m by no means an expert and I love any form of media that gives attention to this fascinating time period, but here are some mistakes I found in the video:
5:45 It is theorized that Saliceti was involved in the imprisonment of Napoleon, but this is far from certain.
6:18 Napoleon never went to the Vendée, pleading poor health.
7:40 I would by no means say the army of Italy was underperforming considering their conditions. Italy was seen as a secondary stage of the war and the army performed well under officers like André Masséna, given what they had to work with.
8:50 The war of the second coalition had not yet started when Napoleon set off for Egypt, instead it began when he was in Egypt.
10:00 Napoleon was not the instigator of the Brumair coup, instead he was approached very late in the process. Sieyes figured that they needed military force (which he called a sword) to carry out the coup, but they omitted Napoleon for as long as possible, because they wanted a general with less political ambition. Only after the planned sword unexpectedly died, Napoleon was chosen to be the sword. Realizing his importance within the plot, he soon gathered more power for himself.
12:30 Sieyes was never consul. Instead the second consul was Jean Jacques Régis de Cambacérès.
I also wanted to add that the emblem he used for the Nation Convention (6:49) is completely wrong, or more like anachronical because this was the emblem of the national assembly from 1789 to 1791 only, so when Louis XVI was still in power... as you can see this emblem show a lot of references to the monarchy (white color, lys flower, and it says "The Law and the King"
With the monarchy being abolished, the national convention became fully republican and completely abandonned the monarchist symbols for republican ones obviously

I have been teaching about him in my college courses for over 20 years. I recorded a 10 minute summary over a week ago on his life. He is a complex person. At points more of a child of the enlightenment and at others times a dictator like figure. He had a very dramatic life, one that you don't need to embellish to make a great movie about. I will be curious to see how the movie portrays him.

Thierry Lentz and Jean Tulard demonstrated that the Coup d'État du 18 Brumaire was not at the initiative of Napoleon, but of Sieyes. They also demonstrated that it was mostly a parliamentary coup, which was not unusual during the first republic. Actually, Napoleon's role was supposed to be secondary, but he lost his cool and tried to intervene in the lower house when Lucien was not ready and that lead to his proeminence.

In the Abel Gance silent film from 1927, Napoleon is shown as a young student pronouncing his name “Na- pie-o-nay,” which prompts a teacher to mock him, calling him “paille au nez” - French for straw in the nose. Far from subverting the revolution, Bonaparte rescued it from the tyranny and chaos of Robespierre and the mob.The fact that not only the French legal system but those of many European countries still rest on the Code Napoleon is testament to the stability he ushered in compared to the utter mayhem created by Robespierre and other revolutionary madmen.

6:26 Last week I named one of my newly recruited Generals "Napoleone Ali Buonaparte Pasha" 5,5,6,6 stat in my Ottoman>Caliphate>Devlet-I Rûm Europa Universalis 4 campaign in 1794 during my occupation of France and subsequent successful invasion of Great Britain, he gained "Defensive planner" trait (10% less shock damage received) at the Battle of Dorset against a failed British assault on my beachhead landings.
It's surreal how I did that in my "Rewriting of history" playthrough and now I come to find out a few days later it almost actually happened IRL.

Napoleon shaped the European world and thus effected the world as a whole.
This man is one of the greatest of all times.
Not really. He wanted to be a statesman/ruler over a vast empire in the mold of Alexander, Caesar, and Augustus. The European countries stood up against this. The post Napoleon Europe remained fragmented until Hitler tried to conquer it by force as well. What they didn't realize was that the European countries wanted to remain separate sovereign pollical entities. They were brought together through common economic interests, which the European Union more or less succeeded in accomplishing. So maybe in a way he did shape the European world, but not in the way he envisioned.

No, they were fighting for the preservation of an authoritarian system that suppressed most of the population. Did you forget that France was the one that was attacked by the other European powers first? They were fighting for their survival. Not to forget he freed Poland. He wanted France to take its rightful place as master of Europe, since it was the most powerful European nation at the time and to oppose the meddling of "Perfidious Albion."

Why didn’t he just become a president, like Washington? Or “first among equals,” like Caesar?
That is essentially what he first did as first consul. Only a bit later did he openly take the emperorship, and it wasn't like people were really opposed to that.
Washington as president had a lot less power than Napoleon had, so why would he choose for something like that? France was just not ready yet for an elected leader(ship).
Napoleon followed the foot steps of Julius Caeser. Like Caeser, he killed a republic with charisma and force.

thank you, I especially liked how you explained what happened to Napoleon that caused him to become a dictator, as opposed to a supporter of the Republic.
He was a dictator who supported the the republic. His dictatorship, in the least pejorative way possible, was necessary for the republic to survive.
@@NihilusIsHere I know dictator has negative connotations, but I am using dictator in the most neutral way possible, like calling him an absolute monarch.
