Now the first time played this game was when I was a teenager. There was an Arcade near the Jr. H.S I used to attend but would ditch until lunchtime sometimes not go to school at all. So before class began myself and friends would not go and go to the Arcade instead to waste quarters on video games. Later the police would actually come inside the Arcade to look for those who were ditching school but me and my friends were long gone. DD 2 brings so much childhood memories! Thank you for reliving them!

Yep, I wish there was a way you and I could play together, I never tire of the NES version, still my favorite NES game of all times, I can play that game 20 times in a row and never tired of it. The music, sound effects etc. all superior to the arcade version, even the ending was better, the arcade version was terrible compared to the NES version imho.

The more accurate Genesis version is still crap because the arcade DD3 was crap. NES DD3 didn't even bother to imitate the arcade, which makes it better by default.
I always struggle to see how the computer whose punches and kicks connects and takes precedence over the others. There has been so many instances where when I attack, graphically it looks like my punches or kicks connected the enemy and yet enemy does not display a pain animation and I am the one who ended up getting hit and losing health....

Its strange that with all the arcades that operated in my area back in the late 80s, early 90s...i never once saw a DD2 cabinet. For the longest time i thought that the NES version was a stand alone sequel made just for the console. It wasnt until the mid 90s that i found out there was an arcade version. Til this day ive still never seen one in an arcade. Are there any options for playing this besides hunting down an original cabinet?

In the late 80s I actually preferred the NES Double Dragon games; I could never play the arcade games well, and the slow-down and sluggishness of their gameplay was pure frustration. DDII on the NES? Kick ass. Then a couple of years later, Final Fight and Streets of Rage 2 were my jam (plus arcade Punisher, X-Men, and AvP).
That's a photo of the three of them, prior to her getting killed. Unlike the NES version (and associated ports), Marian can't be bought back to life in this game. The ending of her crying was just a "Despite all that, I'm still dead and nothing will bring me back" type deal.
Marion WAS actually killed in Double Dragon II on the N.E.S. as well (though just wasn't actually shown to be), but was also resurrected after defeating the Mission 9 boss, unlike this version. She was also the end boss you fought at the end of D.D. III on Nintendo, and was under a spell, which you'd snap her out of by beating her as well.
I remember playing dd2 at a circle k, the cashier used to get a little upset, because the neighborhood kids just asked for quarters to play dd2, one day they didn't have it no more, very upsetting 😢

No, it's on normal. The enemies on the first two missions don't take that much punishment. Then a bit more in 3 and 4. You should probably play a bit more before calling someone's efforts bullshit and easy mode.

Yea nes was way better IMO, sound fx was better, music was better for some reason lol, that 8 bit sound was hitting hard, longer and more stages and not as repetitive with the enemies

The shadow last boss is basically the Lee brothers rage and revenge from Marion's death come ionto physical form, sort of having to fight that rage within, fighting their own demons (and fighting themselves).

@clint45 That's actually not Abobo, but rather a different, though similar character called Bolo. Abobo was the mid/sub boss you fought in the first Double Dragon, while Jick was the Mr. T lookalike, who was the boss of Mission #1 as well.
@clint45 Abore is definitely a pain in the ass to deal with for certain, and can kill you pretty quickly for that matter too! I also never realized that the Mr. T boss was actually named Jick up until recently, while Abobo was merely the mid sub-boss in the original Double Dragon as well. That of which wasn't exactly common knowledge up until late, what with Jick not actually appearing in the console versions of the first Double Dragon also.

For first time ever if you buy Evercade VS or on Evercade Handheld you can play Arcade Double Dragon 2 off Techno’s collection 1 cartridge and it has 7 other arcade games as wel. I Own Evercade VS console and I never dreamed I’d be playing arcade games legally and have physical form. My goal is to get all the arcade games that come from Blaze,it’s retro gaming done right,up to 4 players insert slots,can have two cartridge slots filled and hot swap games at any time.

I’m 4 years too late to responding to this comment,but sure you can play off Emulation on a Retro Pie easy. For first time ever if you buy Evercade VS or on Evercade Handheld you can play Arcade Double Dragon 2 off Techno’s collection 1 cartridge and it has 7 other arcade games as wel. I Own Evercade VS console and I never dreamed I’d be playing arcade games legally and have physical form. My goal is to get all the arcade games that come from Blaze,it’s retro gaming done right,up to 4 players insert slots,can have two cartridge slots filled and hot swap games at any time.
